firerx Jacob, Are the 3090's FTW3's affected also, or is the solution already addressed on them.
3090 FTW is not affected.

There have been confirmed reports of CTD with XC3 Ultra, I had an order for this card on Amazon but I just canceled it this morning. At this point, there's so much going wrong with this launch that has turned me off on adopting early. I decided to wait to see what the 3070 and Big Navi have to offer and let the partners figure it out and fix their issues before buying. Hoping that I can get an upgrade before Cyberpunk 2077, but if not, at least I'll appreciate the upgrade more when I do!

What is concerning is why is EVGA communicating "POSCAPs"? Is it cause they are reading in too much what the internet is saying? Or is this not the real real reason why the GPU's are crashing when auto bios OC is applied. EVGA should talk to their engineers more and give a proper break down, then wrongly communicate the issue on hand.

Most people are associating this issue with POSCAP so it's likely to avoid confusion. It's just the nomenclature that got adopted even though it's not technically correct.

It's either this video or another, but the creator stated it's an industry thing. Annoying as it is, it's being called that instead of by their real names. It's similar to q-tips and kleenex.

Jacob, you're really earning your pay with this launch; time for a raise. Thanks for addressing the problem up front and standing behind your brand. EVGA has a reputation for being the best and continue to validate that claim.

There is so much mis information in this thread.
First please watch this actual hardcore overclocking video that explains a ton more about this potential issue.
Here are some other points: 1) POSCAP is a specific model of capacitor made by Panasonic so calling all SMD polymers as so is like calling all soda Coke, it’s incorrect. 2) MLCCs are not just universally good as well. Just like all capacitors they have several models that have different spec etc, so you can’t just say small is good and big is bad 3) power delivery is more than 1 component, you need to investigate the entire pcb to actually say if it’s good or not
MLCCs and SMD polymers each have different specs different things they are good at etc, the best you can do is mix and match to fit your board, which is what I believe EVGA has done.

Not the prices in europe though ...
^^ This the prices of the 3090 are about 300 euro too high, the 3080 seems about right though

Maxidrom2002 U guys knew about this issue weeks, if not months ago...and you are all coming out of the closet now...ONLY BECAUSE OF INDEPENDENT REPORTING. This is not how u build trust...
He just stated that their cards were either built to spec or higher, thus negating the issues that are seeing with other brands.

This is my point exactly, confusion is created by the internet and they should correct it with their correct knowledge. And now that the cat is out the bag why there were just a couple GPU's on launch day. But also this issue could be the second one that Nvidia caused.

Just for some reference (can't link URLs) Reddit post: Many RTX 3080 users reporting crashes in games (user/IPiracyI's reply for XC3 Ultra) EVGA post: XC3 BLACK GAMING Crashing in MW: Warzone I know these are isolated instances and we don't know the conditions of their hardware (maybe caused by an under powered PSU or an unstable OC, etc) but the reports are enough that I'd rather just wait a bit than risk dealing with potential RMA's and unstable performance. Hoping it is all a simple driver/firmware fix for those who have these problems.

Guys, it’s like any other components on these boards. There are optimum values that give the best noise suppression, surge delivery capability, or whatever. Even though the boards look similar or even identical, you really can’t compare the cap compliment of one kind of board to another, or one manufacturer to another unless everything is truly the same. We already know at least some values and even component types are different on the different boards. The boards are a system and everything works together to provide a running board. What is important is each manufacturer discovered or was alerted to the issue and took steps to correct it. We can only assume that each manufacturer has or is changing the capacitor combinations on their boards to address the issue. That one board has 5 polys or 4 or none doesn’t really matter. They are *presumably* now optimized for the conditions on that particular board model. It’s very tempting to think the ASUS boards with 6 sets of MLCCs are better but that may or may not be true. What ultimately matters is how clean the power is for the GPU and we don’t know without proper measurements which is truly better. Jacob said that they had already addressed this on various models that have been being sold and they held back the 3080 FTW3 to rework them so those will be proper too when they go out for sale. It was potentially an issue but it’s not now. If you get EVGA boards, the whole issue is already addressed. The only ones who got the “defective” boards were reviewers - not the retail channel - and EVGA is replacing those. I really wouldn’t worry about it now. I’m not. I still want the EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra and will still be buying one just as soon as I can get a cart to actually check out.

should be noted that on asus' website they show the OC with no mlcc , and the non oc with all mlcc. i assume they changed them all to full mlcc , but i havent heard anything from asus on that. (edit: for the tuf 3080* )

Asus is all MLCC, they have stream going on youtube where they clarified this. They didn't say why they did it, but all MLCC it is.

If the FE and TUFF are crashing still then maybe the there is a flaw in the power delivery design that cant be totally fixed with higher quality caps.

It was only with the pre-production models meaning the ones that the reviewers got before launch day so no, you're not going to have an issue since none of the launched models (Final retail versions) had this issue.

Thanks Jacob, So RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues hence don't expect to tweak the XC3 cards for FTW performance. BTW I can/t find a picture of the back plate of a 10G-P5-3881-KR anywhere. Not that that means anything.

TeslaDev Still find it odd they used 220uF instead of 470uF, or 2 of each like the FE, for the SP Caps. Unless the FE used 22uF on the MLCCs and EVGA is using 47uF...would have equal capacitance...but this is the FTW3...would expect better. Strix looks to be rolling with 47uF for all 60 MLCCs per Buildzoid...giving more capacity with a better component.
This ^. Why is eVga using lower spec caps in a FTW board? Yeah they have a 4+2 setup, but I would have felt better if they were higher performance.
