I see. I don’t do consoles, so not an issue I got to worry about. Sounds like ps5 owners got something to worry about outside of warranty.

Temps when new:

Temps after a year:

Those temps were even after a repaste. I was hitting 95c on the hotspot before the repaste. So it's alot better, and within spec now, but is definitely getting hotter as time goes on. Fans could be going out, but the memory temps haven't increased at all, so maybe the fans are ok, but the die is getting worse.

Glad you got it sorted out.   If I run out of patience waiting for the 5080 series, I might go for one of the 4080/4090 models that have an AIO. Be interesting to see temp difs and whether they can bask in the glory of evgas Hybrids.  Sigh... can't believe I'll never get an evga hybrid again

Hopefully it's not a widespread issue since that will hurt NVIDIA and really PC gaming if a lot of 4090 have a short lifespan. Then again people who have a 4090 often times upgrade when a new generation comes out.

Thanks!  I was curious to try whatever you ran just so I can compare my waterblocked card with year old TG on it.  Mostly to see how my hotspot compares to the main temp and to your temps.

No problem. When you run the test make sure you minimize the window that shows the donut. Power will go off the chart then. 😁

Wow yeah it shot to max power (450W in my case, didn't have the power slider past 100).  Looks like I might need to re-paste and/or check my mounting or I just have a hotter hot spot.  GPU/HS temp was maxed at 59.4/73.5 with a water temp of 35C.  HS temp should be a couple degrees cooler than that I think.  Could just be my card I guess but pretty sure other stress tests I ran a year ago the HS was closer to about a 10C difference.

If you decide to re-paste definitely try out some PTM7950.

I ran the test at 450w and got 56c max on the gpu with the hotspot at 64.8c which is crazy as I'm just using the stock cooler.

I cannot see which 4090 you have, on my TUF 4090 the core and memory are fine, but hotspot-core ("Delta") gradually increases over time to around 20c. I recently applied fresh paste, and hotspot-core delta was <10c. Then a week later it increased to ~15c, and I guess by the end of April it'll get to that 90c zone again. It happened with two high quality pastes (Noctua NH-T2, Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme).
I'm not sure what can be done to solve it. I guess it's a mounting pressure issue, in which case changing to softer thermal pads could help, I'm also interested in testing the PTM7950. Doing monthly repasting is not a good idea, the card is way more likely to break due to the ****ty connector than due to high hotspot. I also haven't tried undervolting.

Get yourself an Authentic Honeywell PTM7950 from MODDIY, I suggest the 80x80 pad that's at least 1x gpu and 1-2 cpu's. The things are amazing on cpu's and gpus.

I had same problem because ASUS manage to not apply thermal paste correctly. Already ordered PTM7950 but kryonaut will be good for now.

Furmark test
GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX 4090 OC
Stock thermal paste: 78C core, memory 68C, hotspot 105.3C
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut: 69C core, memory 72C, hotspot 79.7C

I have the same issue with my TUF, I repaste and hotspot + core drop by a lot, but then 7-10 days later and temps go back up. I tried TM Kryo Extreme and Noctua NH-T2 and both didn't keep their initial temps. I'm waiting for 7950 to arrive to see if that helps.

Where is everyone ordering PTM7950 from?

Seems to be some quality issues or knockoff/counterfeit product out there, that some people have reported on other forum's posts

The results look very good for the PTM7950, I just want to get it from a reliable vendor

My friend ordered from this store on aliexpress preformance is phenomenal (he didnt have any left so i was forced to order). Only seller that actually sell original honeywell 7950.
You can remove link later if its against evga forum rules. Also moddiy sell those for US and they ship super fast and you dont need to wait 1+ month.

I saw LTT was also advertising that they are now selling it because it was hard to get legitimate supply and they saw an opportunity to offer it on their own store.

 OK, I found that
LTT store PTM7950
https://www.lttstore.com/search?q=PTM7950&options%5Bprefix%5D=last
60mmx60mmx0.25mm @ $14.99 USD
200mmx160mmx0.25mm @ $69.99 USD
shipping looks to be $9.99 (for my address at least)

there is a place for discount codes - if you have one.  (My online automatic code checker, "Honey" - did not find an active discount code)

I can report my temps are still the same a month later. I ordered mine from here… https://www.amazon.com/gp...x_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I'm hoping you keep updating your test drive, will be interesting to see a monthly update to see if it lasts 1 year or more
 (from Amz link above)

I had same problem because ASUS manage to not apply thermal paste correctly. Already ordered PTM7950 but kryonaut will be good for now.

Furmark test
GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX 4090 OC
Stock thermal paste: 78C core, memory 68C, hotspot 105.3C
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut: 69C core, memory 72C, hotspot 79.7C

By any chance did you measure the H & W of die that touches the vapor chamber plate? I have looked and asked everywhere with no luck. Nvidia’s squared measurement is wrong as the chip is taller than it is wide.

Well just put the Honeywell pad on my Rog Strix oc 4090 hotspot was getting up to 82c, the pad an automatic drop with no cure time yet freshly installed it’s already down to 67c. Idle temps went from 28-31c down to 26c already.

Cool GTX
Where is everyone ordering PTM7950 from?

Seems to be some quality issues or knockoff/counterfeit product out there, that some people have reported on other forum's posts

The results look very good for the PTM7950, I just want to get it from a reliable vendor

MODDIY if you want an authentic one that performs better than some of the pre packaged knockoffs of Amazon. There are legit ones on Amazon but I wanted to ensure I got the real thing.
