Hey all,

With all the news of cards bricking with New World, and as far back to Sept/October of 2020 with other games bricking 3090s, I am just wondering if it's safe to play the new Back 4 Blood game. I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask to see if anyone else had any issues. I'm just nervous with any new game that comes out now with newer-ish graphics. Much appreciated!

From my understanding a lot of the New World was that it didn't cap the frame rate in menus. So the graphics card would try to render them at hundreds of frames per second instead of using them as a chance to cool off. Amazon released a patch that fixed that and some other performance bugs that should help not overheat cards. It's also worth noting that some bad cards did come out but from my understanding that issue got fixed and was a small batch.

Personally though I am not really someone who jumps into a game the first hour and odds are giving a game a half day after launch and looking online you can see if the game has issues. Both with hardware or with the game having a lot of bugs. Since now games are just a download I don't mind waiting a day or two to pick them up since we don't have to worry about it being sold out anymore.

Hey Hoggle, the problems with New World and high power draw GPUs like the 3090's go BEYOND FPS capping. Many people who capped their FPS and even lowered their power draw has had their cards bricked. Take a look at the thread below. I've been keeping up with what people has been posting on this forum, reddit, and on the New World forums. A lot of 3090's have been breaking since it came out back in September, and even more now in relation to New World.

Anyway, I just wanted to post here and see if anyone that has a 3090 or what I have, a 3090 Kingpin Hybrid, has played Back 4 Blood without any issues. I did a search and I didn't find anything, but wanted to post here just incase

I've played Black for Blood and New World without issues on my kingpin. Its a different power and board design then the cards that have had issues, most of which were early launch ftw3 ultra models (I had one that died lplaying league of legends)

Nobody has reported a dead kingpin from playing new world. You’ll be fine.

Thanks for the reply you two,

Carmen, just curious, how many hours do you have on New World, and did you limit the power draw and frames? Or did you go full beast mode? :O I read someone was running it on 4k with maxed graphic settings without a problem on their Kingpin

I am around level 22 in New World, I have run it at 4k max settings full power (121%). I do sometimes limit the power in Precision X1 if I am in a queue, but thats just so my room doesn't get unnecessarily hot. It runs well, I'd say in the 60fps range in cities. I do use dynamic resolution scaling, I am hoping they add DLSS

I've been playing B4B on my 3080ti with no issues. In fact, it's a pretty low resource game. I think my GPU sits around 50% usage to do Ultrawide (2K) @ 120hz.

Only New World so far. Just wanted to see if anyone had any issues with the game before purchasing it. It runs well on my 3090 Kingpin

As long as your card is happy in its home and is not pushing the limits in temps anywhere, I would not be afraid to play anything, I game on an undervolt for everything even though I could get away with more, its more about finding where the cruising speed of your card is. It was in fact the even MSFS2020 would peak out any card , My card would hit max power and 488FPS in the lobby, its so stupid and just bad code, but since they have put caps on the lobby at 144fps and it only pulls about 50% GPU usage and runs about 32C where before it would hit max temps,
Just keep open GPUz and run a few short tests and see what the demand is on your card. OCing is for Benchmarking to impress your friends and not trying to game on any 30 series cards IMHO
