Does anyone know if the step up program is dependent on stock or should it be possible to get it started even if stock shortages?

AFAIK they have a certain amount of stock reserved for step up. Even if there are stock shortages, you can start the step up on release and wait for availability. The timer stops ticking once you start the step up and it doesn't matter how long it takes for you to actually receive the card.

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master
G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3600 CL16 2x16GB

EVGA Supernova 850 G+ PSU

Definitely looking forward to the 3090 K|ngp|n but definitely worried about having a F5 war and missing out. However, stock will likely become available judging by last gen.

Is anyone else annoyed that the '90' designation has always been used for dual-chip cards in the past? Or am I mistaken?

I can see why it could be annoying, but why not just see it as the high-end gaming focused card? Dual-chip cards were interesting but didn't ever take off in popularity... imagine cooling a dual Ampere!

It's kind of borrowing from the 90 card philosophy with two separate banks of VRAM on both sides of the PCB rather than two separate GPU cores.

Sorry if this has been asked already.

Do any of EVGA's 3080s use reference PCB designs?

I want to water cool and the water blocks say they work only with reference PCB designs.

Yes the non-FTW ones do. So the XC.

Do we know how the cards look like when placed into PCI-E slot? FTW3 video shows briefly however there are no images of XC3. Wondering if anything’s written like 20 Series.

This is the only different picture I could find for XC3:

We know that XC3 is reference design, we have info from Jacob at EVGA that the HydroCopper variants are FTW3 PCB. I think only these two will be available at launch.

nVidia gives the info on their site: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3070/
3070 will be 220W and nVidia recommends a 650W PSU.

You're not worried about what EVGA will charge? Can't imagine it being less than $2000!

Well $2000 is possible, it would be worth it for XOCing :D

I wanna get a HydroCopper, but not if it’s $600 more than an XC/FE. I could save $300 buying an XC with an EK block. You don’t get an air cooler, so what’s the gigantic markup paying for?
But yeah, need to know when sales start. Took the day off work so I’m ready no matter what time it starts. Possibly midnight, but which time zone?

Part of the markup might be because the bin.  I think the hydro carbon is always an Ultra binned card.  Also, I have heard rumors of 9AM EDT.  But just a rumor.

I also heard from a guy on the internet that its going to be between 5-6 am, lol. come on bro.

6AM Pacific == 9AM EDT

I remamber buying on the day it came out on Newegg the 1080ti hybrid sc2 , you know i remamber going crazy watch all the videos on line and talking my self into getting an air-cool card , I'm glad I waited for it, the card served me well for over 3 years never had a single issue with thermals , on the other hand I know two people who bought the same cards on air-cooled and they used to throttled in hot summer days , Jacob said on the livestream yesterday that it will be a very short time after that I'm guessing a week or two , plus it might not be a bad idea to wait for all the reviews videos, just keep in mind there's a big chance you might not get your hands on one until January of 2021 if they run out of stock.

liquid cooled cards would not improve the summer heat that you mentioned. Sure, they wick away the heat quicker but they still need to dump the heat in the radiators. If the radiators are 90° F because you don’t have air conditioning, its only going to be a few minutes till your cooling performance is no better than air cooled.

Save your money and buy an air conditioner for your room, not a liquid cooled card.

I see the main reason for buying liquid cooled cards is to just mitigate fan noise imo, I know that training machine learning algorithms can cause incessant noise

Re: Introducing the EVGA GeForce RTX 30 Series with iCX3 Technology! 2020/09/06 06:52:24 (permalink)
I have a question to the people more experienced than me. Im very interested in getting EVGA's 3090 model, but im deciding between FTW3 and Hybrid.

I've previously used AIO cards (i have AIO CPU cooler with radiator going to the top, and i have AIO 2080ti with radiator going to the back (doesnt reach front). I have massive (8x120) intake on front but my top exhaust only runs on 2x 140 (that come from CPU AIO) because i can't fit a third fan due to AIO radiator size.

So basically, front intake (8x 120), top exhaust (CPU radiator, 2x 140), rear exhaust (just 2x 120 from the GPU AIO).

I will be replacing my GPU come 3090 release, and im trying to figure out FTW3 design vs waiting for AIO. If i go for FTW3, im worried that because its basically triple heat exhaust towards the top, this might affect my CPU temps because the hot air will be passing through the top CPU radiator. On other hand, i have fantastic airflow in the case, so maybe im worrying too much?

What are your opinions on this? Ignoring card performance, and talking cooling only, you reckon ftw3 is still a safe bet, or should i stick to hybrid?

(Also a question of hot air from FTW3 affecting ram etc on motherboard)

(ignore the cables in picture, im in currently in process of re-wiring the back side and doing the general half-yearly dust/etc cleaning).

Sins the 3090 will have half it's mem on the back and half on the front I am wandering if that will have any negative side's when your having a waterblock on the main side. Will that backside memory get to hot or give any less potiontiel oc wise or shouldn't it matter one bit.

I tried searhing on google but I cannot seem to find any likewise cases with maybe older models to use as a reference.

Maybe I am just searching for something stupid or maybe someone here can answer this :) thing is I wan't to buy either 3080 or 3090 but I don't think the 10gb on the 3080 will be enough for me to get by for like 3-4 years again.

It wasn't really an issue with my GTX 970 which had memory on both sides, this probably will be hotter, but if they were really worried they would have put the waterblock on both  sides of the pcb

That looks like a Corsair 1000D. Personally I don't see the FTW3 as an issue because it looks like you have at least 12 fans in that chassis. So long as your setup is expelling hot air through the back you'll be fine in my opinion.

No. That's when NDA expire. So reviewers can start posting beforehand about FE. It will start hype running before release if they perform as well as they have claimed.

That is indeed 1000D.

Thing is, im expelling air through back and top. Top is through the CPU radiator. Back is through GPU radiator.

If i replace GPU with an air gpu, i could put a few fans on the back, but FTW's fans point up, and im worried that hot air passing through CPU radiator at top would impact CPU temps.
