I'm currently on my second EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING. RMAed the first one.
My first EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING had to be RMAed because it failed. I had to under-clock this card just to get it too work. Video would glitch, computer would freeze. Then failure.
During the RMA process I popped in my old EVGA GeForce GTX 680 SC+ w/Backplate into the system for a few weeks with no problems whatsoever. ( I know, completely different card.)

I got my second EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING a few weeks ago. Yup. I have to under-clock this too or games will glitch and freeze.
I have seasonic 850 gold with separate power cables going to the video card.
Computer is very stable otherwise, especially if I put my old 680 in the box. (I only bought the 1080ti because I need a card with more CUDAs and RAM for graphics work)
I'm an avid Overwatch player and having the game freeze while playing is not good.
Overwatch settings I could have it on EPIC or CRAPPY and it will still crash.
Yes, it happens in ALL games, not just my main game.
Graphics intensive applications are not affected at all. (Adobe CC, zbrush, video rendering. 3d rendering in various apps.)
I always keep my drivers up to date, my OS up to date, everything up to date. (the crashing has occurred with various versions of Windows 10 Pro, currently on 1903)

I've used both of the two EVGA under-clocking apps to help out. Under-clocking seems to help BUT:

1. Is this card going to fail too?
2. The EVGA under-clocking apps are horrible. Can I use something else?
3. If I forget to under-clock, my game crashes. :(
4. less than 70c seems to be the best temp for this card to not crash.
5. The Precision X1 image show my best settings for being able to play games without crashing.
6. the cpu is over clocked but it is "stock" overclocking for the motherboard, I have changed nothing.

I've included some specs via images.

I have pictures of the glitching and freezing but I can't post them yet because I'm new to this forum.

HDR on causes windows to crash only on games
    Best shortcut in windows 10
Pressing Win+Ctrl+Shift+B Reloads GPU Driver helps to check if you Have GPU crash Or Windows Crash

Honestly though if you detune the GPU and everything works. I Really think you have a power issue Higher clocked GPU means more power draw, lower clocked GPU less power draw. i believe their is at least 50 to 60 watt difference between GTX 680 and GTX 1080ti. If your Power supply is not working right this is enough to cause issue and could be why first card died or was damaged at same time and you are still having same issue.
Example bought brand new gold certified 650 watt power supply random rebooting while gaming, swapped old 500 watt power supply hours no issue.Had 650 power supply replaced no more problem.
I am not trying to pick on your PSU it could be a power issue anywhere in system
You could also check your Voltages with a Multi-meter but if you do test under load(gaming if thats when crash occurs)
When Troubleshooting its best to Recreate the situation for Proper Test Results

Having the same exact problem with two different GPU's Most Likely means their are other issues

Thank you. Yes my psu is old (5 years?) and can easily be replaced/swapped. I'll try that.
I'll try that key command too.

When seating the PSU cables - Push on the Wires & not the plastic - to make sure non of the wires get pushed back - making poor contact

Have other unused PCIe cables OR ports on the PSU - test with them

What MB & is BIOS up to date ?

Make sure your MB does Not automatically OC the BCLK as this would "overdrive the PCIe bus"

Case & fan setup ? Card will run its best under 50 C - Nvidia Boost 3.0 starts stepping down the MHz

What resolution do you play at ?

That GPU is powerful & will push the bottleneck to your CPU @ 1080p

Sometimes Auto settings in BIOS are less than Ideal & manually setting your RAM & CPU voltage can add stability

Also Windows 10 does not seem to tolerate multiple audio drivers. At least with my system I have the same cpu with a 1080gtx

I'm also leaning toward a PSU...however I've been around long enough to have seen folks go through more than one RMA to get a stable 'factory overclocked' GPU.

Having the exact same problem with 2 different cards means either:

     - there's something else wrong with your setup, as stated by tattude69,
     - EVGA sent you back another faulty card. This happen sometimes when RMAing stuff, and not just EVGA, with all manufacturers. It doesn't mean they didn't do their job well in the first place.

In either case the best way to know is to test your card in another computer, preferably one that is already using a high consumption graphic card like a 1080ti or 2080ti, then take the other card and put it in your computer and see the results (this is called a cross test).

But as stated before, i agree that a 850W PSU might not be enough for your computer. I wouldn't test with another PSU in the first place though, as a cross test as explained above seems more suitable to understand where the problem comes from.

If you dont know anybody that has the same kind of setup that you own, i'd suggest you go to a local popular forum of your country and ask there if there are some other enthusiasts living close to you that would help you check. Or on last resort bring it to a computer shop and pay a little something so that they can do the test.

I'd put my 2 cents on the fact that they sent you another defective card, time will tell ;)

I hope you sort your problem quickly. Don't forget to tell us about the results at the end ;)

You should not be using multiple audio drivers. The Nvidia drivers will argue with the other drivers. It’s best to pick whether you want to run audio from the video card, the motherboard, or a dedicated card, and try to stick to that when possible. Audio drivers can cause a lot of unnecessary problems when they are fighting for control.

I replaced the PSU today with an new Seasonic 850 Prime and the "second"  EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 obliged and crashed immediately in all games. Joy.
Not the power supply. I'll RMA it. Again.

check you RAM timing as video cards sometimes have needs for IOMMU and if the RAM timing is too right it might not work well

    if CL14 try CL15 etc

I'm following up. I'm now on my third card. I've had installed for about two weeks and it is working great.
    Third times a charm!
Thank you for all of your input.
