How long do you plan on holding out with your 1080 Ti's in single and SLI mode? Before you do a massive upgrade to gain a small margin of performance? Why are you holding out?

I won’t upgrade until it isn’t a small increase in performance with either single or SLI. I actually rarely enable SLI, but I really like the way it looks compared to a single card.
I may go with an mATX system next time that I upgrade, after building a few mATX systems for friends and their kids.
I am holding out because I am not drawn to the aspects an upgrade offers currently. I am on two Titan Xp’s, which are not actually 1080ti’s per your topic, but the performance is nearly the same and I enjoy what I get from them.

I was thinking I would hold out a lot longer than I actually did. I bought mine back in March of 2017 with the plan to hold on to it for a long while. After using it for almost 2 years I bought a Titan V second hand in February. It was around when the prices came down under $2k and I just wanted to screw around with it for some benchmarks. However, after using it in my daily machine to play games I am having a hard time going back to the 1080ti and I might just sell them both off to buy a 2080ti. YMMV, but at 4k I didn't realize how much I was chugging along with the 1080ti until I tried a faster card. And I do like the idea of SLI for the 1080ti but it just doesn't work in my build at the moment (mITX).

The 1080Ti is a great card still for gaming but E3 showed a lot of ray tracing games that I want to play. For me Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing would make me want to upgrade. Doom also has me considered an upgrade. Granted mine was a 1070 to a 2070 upgrade but E3 convinced me that I wanted the better lighting features. If no ray tracing games you saw at E3 excited you though I could see waiting until 2021 before the itch to upgrade comes. I think the next generation consoles will really make ray tracing mainstream for all games going forward after that point.

What will this do for my EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3? Can 3DMark calibrate my performance for other games?
They say Play New Games in DXR Mode. "Can 3DMark calibrate my performance for other games?"

Exactly - unless new games grind my EK'ed SLI'ed 1080 TI's into the dirt I'll be staying with my current setup. That is unless some too good to pass up deal comes along.

While i dont own a 1080Ti myself i can understand the want to keep them running as they are still great cards. Heck the 1080 and 1070 are still good GPU's. Ray tracing isnt the end all and be all for many, and its still barely a standard. Sure I will debate on changing my GTX 1070Ti out for perhaps a Navi GPU in the future or something better than what i have now but not today. Very happy with my 1070Ti as I am getting 1080 performance so my desire to go buy a RTX card or even Navi is very minimal right now. I will of course reconsider once ray tracing becomes more of a standard and pricing of ray tracing cards go down but I can wait things out at least on the GPU front. CPU front, yes i am very interested on upgrading from my first gen Ryzen to third gen ryzen processor but I will be waiting on that front too.

It took me so long and so much effort to get my system together that the thought of changing it up (heck...if I'm going to upgrade the GPU might as well hog it whole and schmear up the system, no?) makes me all sweaty and nervous, lol. I love my machine and will try and hold out as long as I can. Truth be told, I'm curious about the high end AMD processors coming up and wonder how Intel will respond. Multi cores are the future and once we see software and games making greater use of them...then the itching will begin. At that time, probably 3-4 years out, I'll be seriously speccing up a new system. In the meantime it'll be interesting to find out how things develop. A good time to be alive! We're able to do really amazing things now that the cost of entry to workstation power is fairly accessible these days. A "do all" box!

Next Gen or longer if I can... ( I don't count the 'SUPER' line as next either ) ..because none of the ray tracing has impressed me- by it's implementation, effects, resources nor costs to get it enabled.

+1 Or find the bag of buried money. I know many have adopted, but I find the new price points unrealistic. Maybe it's just me.

Pretty much same as others have said: - 1080Ti still has a lot/more than enough horsepower for almost everything
- 2080Ti is a ridiculous price even considering the improvements
- Ray tracing is too new, under-utilized, and currently isn't handled great with current gen anyway IMO
This all coming from someone who has generally upgraded every generation to the new high end cards and uses them for gaming and game development. I have the money and the need for high end gear, but at the same time I'm not lottery rich and I refuse to throw money away.

i bough my 1080Ti brand new last March for 770€.... meaning? A LOT of financial effort to have the current system i have now! so.. in 2 months i spent 1600 euros in my system on my sig!! C'mon..... i earn 550euros per month people!! lets be real!!! besides the 1080 Ti shreds any game i throw at it at max res with full eye candy!! it will last at least till 2023 before i even consider upgrading it! my previous card was a evga GTX 760 SC and lasted 5 years ( not at max setting tho...) i still lack a decent sound system... but not a priority per say... no way in hell im gonna upgrade because of some new shadows/ reflections effects. this reminds me of physx.... its just a new visual effect! sure it looks great but not at the current prices!! SO NOPE!! no way im paying 1200 euros for a single pc component ( a 2080 Ti) that's just 20% better than the 1080 Ti in some games!! it's too new.. to expensive.. well... i COULD pay for it but i need to eat and pay my rent and pay electrical / water and tv/internet bills! another thing... by 2023 i expect Intel to be in the gfx card game as well,... lets see what will happen! and yeah.... CYBERPUNK 2077 is the game that made me upgrade! with my 1080Ti i will fully enjoy it!!

Yeah, the ~30% increase in performance over a single 1080 Ti, let alone my two, for the same cost (second 1080 Ti bought used for cheap) this generation killed it for me. I won't upgrade unless the cost comes back in line with the 1080 Ti, and at least 30% better performance overall. That likely won't happen with the next series (30xx?) since they're still trying to recoup research costs, but who knows.

Those are great questions. I bought the RTX 2070 XC ULTRA and replaced my 1080 Hybrid and 1060. Folding alone the RTX 2070 XC ULTRA did great. But crunching, which I spend a considerable amount of time doing, the 1080 Hybrid and 1060 did far better. The 2080 is just too expensive and the 2070 I purchased is currently sitting in its box until I get a 3rd PC box. So I will be holding on to my 10 series cards for another year at least. I would need the performance increase Arestavo mentioned and some price drops.

I so like having the best HW...always have had it.....BUT damn...I put 2 x 2080Ti XC Gaming in my Egg Cart...at $3.3K CAD + Tax......then hop over to EK and drop 2 FC Blcoks and 2 Backplates in my Cart...then hop back to the Egg and drop in a new SLi Bridge........then realize Im at $4.5K CAD.......damn.....enough to "wake me up" ....the 2080Ti XC Ultras have dropped about $125 CAD here in the last 2 weeks....Im tempted....but now Im certainly going to wait n see what the 2080 Super and Super Ti's bring to the table.....if Im spending that much coin and found out a new Super Ti provides even more power for the same coast as the present Ti I'd be choked........
