WOW could have saved like a grand by going with these... What made you go with those drives for storage?

Because, I went with High Speed Enterprise class RAID drives that are designed specifically for what I want to do.
I cant put a price on the data I will be storing on these drives so the $$ amount means nothing to me.

Compair them side by side and yu will see why >>>LINK TO COMPAIRISON<<<

The reason they are "green" is because they use less power = slower.
Think you made a great choice ZachA

Yea I understand the importance of your data but your raiding them so just didn't see the point since they will be backed up with your raid anyway. But your money, was just curious is all. Either way you got some serious storage now. Well your RAID 10 will dip that in half but still a nice chunk of storage.

Drives are drives and those Enterprise drives could FAIL just as easily as the drive I linked IMHO.

What are you using for your Network NAS?

    Thank you,

To add to that you also have the warrentee and the speed and the RAID specific design of the drives

Yea 5 years compared to 3, what do you mean by Speed and RAID specific design, do you have any server apps that will utilize that design or make use of it?

What are you using for your Network NAS?

Well when you copair those drives there are more in depth differences that matter to me, and I did compair the two befor I purcased them.

    The Enterprise drives:

Massive capacity - WD RE4 Enterprise SATA drives are available with up to 2 TB's of cavernous capacity.

Dual actuator technology - A head positioning system with two actuators that improves positional accuracy over the data track(s). The primary actuator provides coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles. The secondary actuator uses piezoelectric motion to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy. (2 TB model only)

Dual processor - With double the processing power, WD RE4 boasts the highest performance of any drive in the WD RE family.

StableTrac - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations.

RAFF - Enhanced RAFF technology includes sophisticated electronics to monitor the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time. The result is a significant performance improvement in high vibration environments over the previous generation of drives.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower unnecessary power consumption, noise, and vibration. View demo >

Multi-axis shock sensor - Automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data.

RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) - Prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.

Third generation dynamic fly height - Each read-write head's fly height is adjusted in real time for optimum reliability.

Thermal extended burn-in test - Each drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation.

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - WD RE4 drives utilize PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density, reliability, and design margin.

Active Power Save - Delivers best-in-class power consumption through advanced WD firmware that conserves power in active seek modes without degrading performance.
    ___________________________________________________________________
    The Green drive you listed:

Reduced power consumption - WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to standard desktop drives with the combination of WD's IntelliSeek, NoTouch, and IntelliPower technologies.

Helps enable eco-friendly PCs - WD Caviar Green drives yield an average drive power savings of 4-5 watts over standard desktop drives making it possible for our energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation.

Cool and quiet - WD GreenPower Technology yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives.

Massive capacity - Capacities up to 2 TB offer the most available capacity for storage-intensive programs and space-hungry operating systems, like Windows Vista®, with plenty of room left over for photos, music, and video.

Advanced Format Technology (AF) - Technology being adopted by WD and other drive manufacturers as one of multiple ways to continue growing hard drive capacities. AF is a more efficient media format that enables increased areal densities. (EARS and AARS models only)

Perfect for external drives - External drive manufacturers can eliminate the need for a fan in a high-capacity product with a WD Caviar Green drive, the coolest and quietest in its class.

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration. View demo >

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

StableTrac - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. (2 TB models only) View demo >

Low power spin-up - WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads.

Advanced power technology - Electronic components deliver best-in-class low power consumption for reduced power requirements and increased reliability

    Pretty epic order though.

WD green are absolutely horrible, you made the right choice, i have a friend who has green and its so slow its not even funny.

By this i mean its noticeably slow.

Blue and black are the same... you cannot notice it, but green... pssshh.

Thanks for the heads up However I almost purcased a RE4-GP Enterprise drive(basically a "green" drive) but wanted performance more then power savings....
