Well I'm hoping the 7990 comes in a bit more reasonable. Then I'll pick one of those up on launch. Really getting tired of having 2 cards in a small mATX case.

Yes you can buy why would you?
For those of you moaning about a low tdp not being able to match two 680s read this.
Anandtech: Altogether, for the GTX 690 we’re looking at a pair of fully enabled GK104 GPUs (1536 CUDA cores) clocked at 915MHz, paired with 4GB of 6GHz GDDR5 (2GB per GPU) all on a single card. The GPU boost target will be 1019MHz, though until we have a chance to review the card it’s hard to say what the average clockspeeds will be in most games. Taken altogether, this means the GTX 690 should be able to reach at least 91% of the GTX 680 SLI’s performance and probably closer to 95% depending on where GPU boost tops out.
As for power consumption, NVIDIA is designing the GTX 690 around a 300W TDP, with a typical board power (and default power target) of 263W. Compared to the 375W TDP GTX 590 this will allow the card to be used in more power/cooling limited computers, something NVIDIA lost going from the GTX 295 to the GTX 590. The tradeoff of course being that clockspeeds had to be lowered compared to GTX 680 to pull this off, which is why even with a more liberal GPU boost both the base and boost clocks are slightly below the GTX 680. As always NVIDIA is going to be doing some binning here to snag the best GK104 GPUs for the GTX 690, which is the other factor in bringing down power consumption versus the 2x195W GTX 680 SLI.

$1000 what a joke...I'd get 2 680's for that and they will out perform it! And it will cost €1000 to get it in Europe, €1000 = $1300 thats robbery.

These are all going on Ebay for $1250+. It seems like there may be only a couple thousand of these at launch with the binning and needing 2 cool GPU's.

Siamak I never had a dual gpu card before, let's stay I buy the gtx 690 and some games dont support SLI or get micro stuttering, etc... Can I turn off one of the GPUs? And will the system work properly with single GPU? If a game doesn't utilize SLI (like World of Warcraft), it will just use 1 GPU. The other ones will do nothing. You can also disable GPUs if you are getting micro stuttering. Although the Kepler line should be better with micro stuttering according to so some of the documentation, and nVidia has always been better than AMD with it (probably because SLI has been around longer than Crossfire). In addition, micro stuttering is supposedly the worst in 2-way SLI. 3+ GPUs lessens the effect. As for the different benchmarks results, the editor said they were using two different systems and will be retesting the Quad SLI result on the 680 vs 690 system. And as I write this, they have taken the Quad SLI benchmarks down. However, I will need review sites like Anandtech and Guru3D to do some proper testing, giving us CPU models used and the such (and hopefully the difference between Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge E/EP results, whether 32 lanes helps more than 16 lanes for all 4 GPUs). As for the price, it seems right considering the GTX 680 price. Actually, this card is a much better deal than the GTX 590 was. Consider this. The GTX 590 had roughly twice the performance of 2 GeForce GTX 560 Ti video cards. Each of those video cards cost you $249, yet the GTX 590 cost you $699, a $201 premium. The GTX 690 costs $999 and has roughly twice the performance of 2 GeForce GTX 680 video cards (using boost speeds). Yet since the GTX 680 costs $499 a card, you are only paying a $1 premium. Of course there is that extra tax for the roughly estimate. In both these cases, the two cards will be slightly faster, but not by a noticeable degree. And it would be worth it for those who want 4 GPUs, but don't have a board with 4 evenly spaced x16 slots. If you do have a 4-way SLI ready board, there is no reason to buy dual GPU boards (unless if you want a FP32 compute farm). I do think the price will go down once AMD launches their board; and especially when the HD 8000's and the GK110 come out.

Crossfire scales more than 2-way SLI. World of Warcraft scales much better with 2-way SLI or Crossfire then 3 or 4 GPUs enabled. Nvidia gpus load like 58% and 58% on 2-way SLI. AMD gpus load like 99% and 27 to 55% in CF--these are rough estimates. 3-way SLI is do-able on World of Warcraft. AMD Quadfire is do-able in World of Warcraft, but their are load-lag because gpus 2, 3 and 4 slowly rise above 23% load to 50ish. There's no micro-stutters with Quadfire. Because of AMD driver 12.4, MLAA is do-able without having to OC your AMD cards. With 1x Multisamples in World of Warcraft, 24x Samples (edge detect), SSAA + MLAA enabled, I am hovering at around 58.0 to 60 fps (vsync enabled) anywhere until I hit "looking for fail-raids," all the time, in CF.

Boo to the $1000 price tag! I guess I should just be happy with my single 680 sc for now. Doing the solder-on voltmod is starting to sound more appealing. I'm at 1231mhz max stable boost at the moment. If I could hit 1400 under 1.3v I'd be super happy.

+1. I totally agree with you. They're doing it (buying a 690) for a number of different reasons. If MoP isn't a flop during the summer, having a 690 to play WoW, Crysis III, etc.., isn't an impossible outcome. It will be just more small reasons that combine into one big reason why consumers will purchase that graphics card, if they feel their current graphics card isn't living up to their needs or ideal-performance. I just don't agree with some of the statements made by Aggressor Prime, and I mean no offense to this member. World of Warcraft is a poorly optimized and code-written game, but it still utilizes more GPUs now then it did in the past. It won't utilize the GPUs in a 680 or 690 as much as a 480 or 460, but it also depends on how you set it up. Instead of just leaving everything in the WoW options on ultra, and enabling the game's crappy 8x multisamples, why don't you turn that down to 1x multisamples. Turn your AA up to 8x or 16xCSAA with FXAA on the side, in the NCP. In the NCP, set it to AA override or enhance. See how that really puts your cards to work.

The only use I could see for WoW is if they're running it at 12.3 million pixels (three 2560x1600 monitors). Not many people would buy this $1k card plus three $1.2k to $1.5k monitors. And if they did, even a smaller number play WoW on it. I play MMOs (not WoW) with my $500 GTX 680 and $1.3k 2560x1600 monitor, but I am in the minority.

The way I see this with regards to the GTX690 seems pretty clear this time around, Nvidia wanted to achieve the best dual GPU ever and I think they got close talking from a technical and cosmetics too. In the past most dual GPU suffered or were plagued by some short coming whether it was heat, acoustics or just plain unachievable performance –vs.- a pair of single GPU in terms of raw performance and other technical flaw GTX590 anyone? This time around they got it right and also priced it accordingly. They achieved close to 2 single in GTX680 in SLI in terms of performance based on what the current specs show. And from the limited info out there I have found a possible 1300 MHz OC. They got the thermal down a TDP to 300W which is way better than anything in a dual GPU design before. The low acoustic seemed to have been achieved by the heat sink shroud which is fabricated from cast aluminum and injection molded magnesium alloy which will allow it to have a whisper quite fan because the hardware will be rigid on this PCB. So if you consider some of the technical achievement here then you really can understand the asking price, as far as it being for you or not, the only thing you should ask is, this design better for what I want or not otherwise from a spec stand point it has all the attributes of 2 single GTX680 SLI. The only thing that I don’t like is the back heat sink which will dump heat in the case that’s the only thing that may cause any kind, at least for me some trepidation. But all in all I like it both from a build quality and performance stand point with all the other tech achievements I discussed. Now will my wallet like it?

Which games? The textures a game uses and how many of them loaded at once will have an impact on video memory usage as well as gaming resolution.
FFXIV and Skyrim can eat up 1.8+ GB of vram easy between its bad coding and extra mods at 2560x1440.
yup! I hope this 690 will be better than 590gtx.

I am just hoping they don't blow up when someone tries to overclock them like the 590's!!! Kidding aside, it does look extremly well made and like a user above, I also read about the card being able to hit 1300mhz, which I know for me and my 680's I cannot get that at all...so with it's better cooling and 10 power phases versus a vanilla 680 with 4 power phases I am wondering if that is why they are able to pull it off? One last thing...since this card only has DVI ports, will it come packed with a DVi-to-Hdmi converter? I am not sure if I will get one, but if I do I game on my HDTV which is HDMI only. When I had my 580 Classy it was also only DVI, but it came with a converter so I could send both video and audio to the dvi port through the coverter and into my HDTV. I really wish it had HDMI on it though.

They MIGHT come with a mini display to HDMI. More likely than not, it'll come with a mini dp to dvi. TBH though, just go to monoprice.com and pick up an adapter for like 5 bucks. EDIT My bad its actually 6.65 http://www.monoprice.com/...amp;seq=1&format=2

Will a mini-display also carry the audio as well and in particular 5.1 - 7.1 audio? That was my worry with the 580 Classy, but Jacob assured be the DVI port with the adapter would carry the audio and it did and things were great. No issues at all. I just want to be assured that when the 690 comes out that my method of connection for both audio/video will be supported.

I am sure it will like the 580 Classy's which had almost the exact same output of DVI ports and they supplied a converter for HDMI...it is just good for me to hear from the horses mouth (Jacob)...(not calling you a horse Jacob, but you know what I mean.. ![](https://forums.evga.com/upfiles/smiley/001_tongue.gif) ).

hawk269 Cool...So will the evga version come with the DVI-HDMI adapter? I don't know what EVGA has planned, but traditionally high-end cards from EVGA don't come with adapters like that. Usually just other adapters like power. You can always pick one up separately: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270286

Techpowerup also got their 690 in as well. They posted a screen shot showing it compared in size to a 680, 590 and a AMD GPU. It looks exactly the same size as a 590 in length.

Is it an optical illusion or are the fans exactly the same size. Also, what kind of stickers do you think the individual distributors will put on them? The 690 doesn't allow for a lot of sticker space. If anything, I'd rather have "GTX GFORCE" be replaced with "EVGA GTX 690" on the side that lights up.

I would get one if it was 4gb. 2gb isnt enough so i guess im holding out for the FTW cards. Hopefully for the people grabbing a 690 they will atleast throw the high airflow bracket and backplate on for free this time.
