A 1000 bucks eh?

If you can not afford the card or think its too costly simply don't buy it. They plainly said it was not meant to be a card for the masses.

What's the problem? 2x GTX680's are the same price and they will still outperform the GTX690.

I've always prefered having 2 cards rather than 1 dual card pcb.

PS: If I had to re-purchase new GPU's today, I'd still grab 2x GTX680 2GB over a GTX690.

Well I will just water cool my  2 GTX 580 for now.
Next I need to wait for the GTX 685 water cooled cards. To much drama for now. I am glad I did not get the first 680 cards. When the upper 600's are coming out as we talk. I will just put 1,200 in the bank and wait for the best card for my needs.

Thanks,

Anyone see the physical dimensions of the card?  I have limited space in my silverstone fortress case.  My 295's barely have enough room with a 2X180mm radiator sitting in the bottom.

I read that limited stock will be available friday the 3rd and then some more on the 7th.

Just  because it's new, doesn't mean you have something inferior.  In this case as someone has mentioned, at best it's a side grade or more likely a down grade for those with 2 x 680's already in your rigs.  This thing is simply 2 x 680's downclocked ever so slighly.   Imho you have a better setup if you can afford the space.

The problem is Nvidia Don't have the supply

If AMD release there 7990 and actually have stock they will be sitting pretty.

Here in the UK atm there are low stocks of 680's but the 7970 is in abundance and even comes with 3 games which is a hard bargain not to notice.

In a weeks time I will have ht money for a 680 and at that point I'll want it sooner rather than later.

I'm not likely to grab a 7970 though as got my eye and EVGA of course, but once I have the money it's not easy keeping it away from the missus LOL

The HD7970's are on stock because they've been for sale for almost 4 months, while  the GTX680's have been for sale for a month, quite a difference, and the HD7970's had the same issue with stock when they released.

PS: The GTX680's also have free games, such as the Zotac which gives all Assassins Creed games.

I admit i wanted to wait for the gk110, but this is def way better than the 590 and reminds me of my 295's.

The price is outrageous. I would love to quad sli these, but id want 4gb for gpu, not 2gb, and I would worry about long term driver support.

Okay now that designing and promoting the 690 is out of the way, maybe NVIDIA can get around to making the 680 (whther single card or SLI) not stutter like crazy everytime the boost feature kicks in, or anytime you try use vsync. Check out Nvidia own forums for a month long thread with 10 pages of people having major problems. Nvidia reps still have not addressed or acknowledged any of this. Until a fix (if possible) is made, be very wary of buying 600 series.

Not for me, i do love the look, but then again thats probably why its so expensive. I'd only give it some consideration if i was a user in the 2500 res or triple monitor setups.

khatru311Yeah. I dont know if I should sell my 80 and get 2 690s or just sit tight.

Two 690s in SLI is a waste, just like two 590s or two 295s. The 4th GPU is almost wasted. SLI still doesn't scale well past the 3rd GPU.

Keep your two GTX 680s. :-) If you really want more, you could go three GTX 680s, but I wouldn't advise that.

All they need to do is make an option, to turn off the Boost feature. That is all most people want, to turn that stupid idea off. Okay, it may not be stupid, but for us power users who don't care about it. Us hardcore gamers, we don't want are clocks bouncing like a kid playing with a YoYo all hyped up on Mnt Dew.

Nice card but people like me that have systems with one and two PCI-E x16 slots, a Dual chip card is ideal for users like me, one like two Dual chip cards is always faster than one or two single chip cards, many still don't see this, which is their loss

Anyhoo for the price of one GTX 690, I can get two GTX 590 Classifieds !

Quad SLI is nice if you know how to set up up properly and correctly  It's that I never had issues with it either, as them EVGA GTX 295 Red Editions are giving me

Thereby I just bought one EVGA GTX 590 Classified, for 580 Euro's incl shipping it was rather a steal of a deal if you'd ask me, faster than any 680 can give me and great replacement for my GTX 480 Hereby I can't complain

I know AMD was the same but they're in a position to release a 7990 now and it be in good supply,
Nvidia's decision to release the 690 so soon after the 680 without addressing stock levels is not so good

I guess now it depends on when AMD release the 7990 and it's final performance but if they release it should meet demand.

Nvidia are still not able to fulfill 680 demand and seeing the 690 is 2 680 chips then that's even less supply they will have (granted the demand for the 690 should be lower to the 680) but for every 1 690 released that's 2 680's still be waited on.

It's that kind of market where AMD could easily shine through as second best becomes the best if the top slot can't be gotten hold of.

I think the 690 would make for a good SP compute card. I have been thinking of building another GPU rig for Seti@Home and a pair of 690s should be great for that especially considering the lower power consumption compared to previous generations. The 590 is also a good card for this project but is a real power hog. Of course, the up front cost is high at $2k for a pair of these cards. The 690 is a great looking card though.

Yeah, I don't understand why Nvidia thinks gimping 680 performance with the boost dragging everything down is a good idea. At least make it optional. I doubt many people who paid $500-$1000 are really that concerned about saving a few dollars from power consumption, especially when the cards as-is already are signifcantly more power friendly than the 580.

I am sure they can fix the vsync issues in time (still annoying that they are rolling out new products before fixing or even addressing this) but I really hope disabling boost is something that can be done through FW as well.

Has anyone else noticed that nVidia's benchmarks don't match up for single GTX 690s, despite both using the same settings? The Metro 2033 scores are way different, but Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 are off too. And they are off in different directions. Just goes to show that you can never trust a manufacturer's benchmarks.

Metro 2033 scored better on the 7970 than the 680, so Metro will typically score higher on an AMD card. It doesn't seem to be tweaked for NVIDIA GPUs.

+1 I call such benchmarks propaganda and nothing else all they do is promote the product for the company lol

Good for the weak minded ones thatf all for such benchmarks but here @ EVGA we are smart and most of us know that such benchmarks are never to be seen as trust worthy ones lol.

We all have seen that every new VGA card need to become mature, same counts for the GTX 680 & GTX 690, look how long it took before the GTX 480, 580 and 590 came mature, at least 3 to 4 months.
