Where the heck is the lifetime warranty "AR" version of the 1GB reference?  Why does it have to be so hard to get what we need/want when its just a reference design and EVGA is known for their lifetime warranty?

Is there actually a difference (physically) between the 01G-P3-1372-TR (GTX460 SC 1GB w/reference cooler and 2 yr warranty) and the upcoming 01G-P3-1372-AR (GTX460 SC 1GB w/reference cooler and lifetime yr warrantee)?
I was always under the impression that it was the same hardware/software, you just paid extra for the lifetime warranty.

Physically the same, you just pay 10 more for the warranty.

In theory they should be the same.  It's possible they reserve those from good batches for the lifetime warranty line though, and put those that may be more likely to fail after two years out with two year warranties.  I'd rather not have to worry about it myself.

I'd rather not have to worry about the two year warranty either, so I was waiting for an AR version.  I just don't understand why they aren't both shipping already if their is no difference in the hardware/software.  I'm ready to cough up the extra $10 for the AR version as soon as they are ready to sell it to me.

PM Response from Nick:

"Hi,

The part numbers on the promo page are in error and being removed. Sorry, I do not have any info on if or when an -AR version would be available.

- Nick"

I'm really sad/disappointed.  I don't understand why they would have multiple versions of all the other versions of the 460 but not the one that several people including myself wants.  EVGA is known for their lifetime warranty.

Look on the bright side, if you aren't hurting for a video card upgrade (lets face it, there aren't millions of demanding games out right now) not selling the exact model you want might give you a long enough pause to see what ATI is offering up next, or to see where they slash their prices to. ;)

Sparkle (of all companies) has a reference cooler 1GB model with a limited lifetime warranty. Jeez. EVGA just keeps pushing me out the door first with higher than average pricing and then the slow elimination of lifetime warranties.

Unfortunately the lifetime warranty from Sparkle only applies while the parts are in production.  So once the 460GTX is no longer in stock they no longer offer warranty service on it.  Personally I think the MSI card with that Tornado? cooler on it is the one I'll be purchasing since EVGA isn't offering lifetime skus for the reference model 1GB.

I dunno about going with sparkle....I lean towards no thanks.   EVGA may still put out the lifetime version.  I don't see why they wouldn't, but then again, I don't see why they haven't already.

Clearly there are more people than just me that want it.

I've had the card for 6 days now and I'm pretty disappointed with the sound coming from the fan. It would be one thing if it was just a loud fan, but on top of that, anything above 40% sounds like it's grinding something, and on top of that, 40% to 80% it gives off a horrible whine, which gets worse the higher you set it.

Prior to this card I used a 8800GTS 640MB card, with the fan speed set at 100% 24/7 and it was tolerable compared to this. Temps seem perfectly fine so I'm guessing this is its normal sound. I hope EVGA fixes this issue for people that currently have the EE 1GB version when they release the reference design cooler version by letting us swap out. I'll have to get rid of the card otherwise and go with a different brand, which I'd prefer not to do since I've only purchased EVGA cards for my last 3 upgrades starting at the 7600GT.

I also have an EVGA 8800GTS 640 and yesterday installed a new EVGA GTX 460 SE and the fan sounds like a thrashing hard drive. The ticking sound is plenty loud at 40% fan speed, almost as loud as my Raptor hard drive, and gets slightly quieter around 52%, then louder as the fan increases to 70%. It's super annoying and seems like a faulty fan. I might RMA it, still doing research on whether or not this is just how the fan is or if mine is bad. I wouldn't mind buying an aftermarket fan for it if one exists. I want to leave the external exhaust solution in place but want to get a normal fan, not this crappy fan that I have. Looks like EVGA cheaped out on this card compared to the fan & shroud on the 8800gts.
