Yes, this is being worked on. Sorry but no ETA yet.

Well, they say it's in the works.  I have a fairly silent setup, so the EE blower design really doesn't work for me, which was a major concern.  But now with the possibility of a reference style fan design, this could all change.

Guys, this is EVGA we're talking about here.  Already, they have the best warranty, some of the best factory OC speeds and end-user OC capabilities, and an extremely good reputation for product quality and customer service.  The only complaint this card has received, anywhere, is the fan noise and associated temps.  EVGA knows this.  It's the one major thing letting their competition get more attention.  I can't imagine they're going to just let that ride.

They already have a larger heatsink than reference.  There's no reason they couldn't keep a larger heatsink as part of an open design, or even improve it further with the space available from the repositioned fan to continue to cool both the processor and memory.  It's fairly well known at this point that MSI & Gigabyte have some of the quietest, coolest versions out there - but neither matches the capabilities, quality of service, or warranties EVGA offers.  If EVGA can put together a quiet cooling solution that bests those two, the market on the 460 is pretty much theirs to take.

I'm crossing my fingers.

If you look in accessories EVGA has the 470 and 480 stock fansinks for sale. If they sold the reference style 460 fansink I would just buy an 1GB EE and replace it with a reference cooler. Although the reference doesn't have room on the heatsink to cool the vram and the EE heatsink dose...

As cjegntile is pointing out, there is better VRAM heatsink on the eVGA product. I ghetto rigged my card to fix the sound problem, removed the stock cooler, reapplied some thermal compound, and strapped a 80mm fan to the heatsink, fits fairly well, looks budget as hell, but u can't see it in my case simply because there is a LED fan blowing directly onto my GPU. Temps dropped 5 degrees doing this. Zero sound. Awesome cheap fix until a aftermarket comes available.

As a soon-to-be previous owner of GTX 4601GB EE product, i can say for those who are enthusiasts for silent builds, this product is not for you. Upgrading from an EVGA GTX 260, the gtx 460 fan is much louder and simply atrociously loud at idle.

Agreed bboywind.  Really horrible design on EVGA's part.  I think I may be sending the card back, unless someone at EVGA can dissuade me and assure me I can get the new edition with the quieter cooler as a step-up.  Really weird that the fan cannot get lower than 40% in my book.  The card is not even close to hot at idle even when overclocked to 800 core.  Simply pathetic and really not excusable at all.  Sorry, but I expect much more from EVGA and the fan speed and heatsink on the 1 gig models have let me down.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Ordering now.
A lifetime warranty would be nice but I haven't even had my 9800 for 2 years.

Lucky.

No EU stock for EE version yet so I don't expect this to come at all.

EU support helped me as much as they could but couldn't give an exact date, just that they hope stock will be in by the middle of August. =|

This is good news for people who can actually get them, Thanks to all this i will be stuck with my eVGA EE....
Being in Australia, products take too long or can never be sent, and also the fact that it would cost me a fortune
to simply send it away. Disappointing on my part, happy for others to be able to get it though.

Is the new cooler the standard reference fan, or a unique design?  Either way it's going to be quieter than the EE design for silent systems, but I'm curious.  At a glance, it seems to be the standard reference (which is darn good as is), but I'd like to know for sure.

Thank you for this, EVGA.  Was hoping I could stick with you, and now I know I can.  Would love to have a lifetime warranty, but admittedly with the rate of development, the cards on the market in two years will likely be so improved we can't even fathom them yet.

Any chance we'll be seeing the 1GB 460 with the reference design + the lifetime warranty?  2 years is a little lite.  If it was 3 I wouldn't think twice about it.

Any chance evga will let us poor EE people stuck with loud cards exchange or that they'll offer us the new cooler?

If they sold the ref cooler for shipping cost only to EE owners (like the highflow bracket deal, based on your registration status) it's worth time and return shipping cost savings not sending card back it back in for RMA.

Doesn't need it but if you want one evga sells em'

With the reference cooler the "HI-FLOW" bracket would make no sense.

This is just a side note but I was intending on doing a cooler mod which may still happen in the future but I just switched my 460 sli setup into a Coolermaster HAF X and installed a Silent Typhoon Fan into the gpu fan housing and wow what a temp drop . Before running one card on heaven i was getting up to 73 degrees on extreme settings... with the new setup in sli peak was 67 with a delta of 1 degree between cards and the fans never turned up past 40% setting.... So what I am saying is that these cards really respond well to over the card cooling setups. A simple mod to setup a fan blowing across the card long ways can drop 6 degrees not to mention usually sli is warmer than a single card setup!!!

Wow, I didn't even know about the Coolermaster HAF X.
What a sweet case, I like my 932 but.. geez.

Hmm...

I am guessing if doing SLI the best route is still probably the EE though, eh?

I ordered two of the 1gb EE's and they'll be here tomorrow but all this talk makes me wonder about the reference ones (which weren't on the site nor did I see this topic when I was ordering them...)

How bad would the reference design be for an SLI setup?

Some people say the EEs are super loud and I can personally say my one friend bought one and returned it.  The reference design is supposedly quieter and runs cooler but doesnt push the heat out of your case like the blower models would.  In a modern enthusiast case, it really shouldn't be a big issue.

I'm waiting for the 1gb Reference designs with LIFETIME warranties! Where are they!? lol

It sucks that the new ones don't have cheap shipping on newegg right now.

I'm curious to see reviews of the new cards. (cooling and performance)

It looks like the 01G-P3-1372-AR might be coming.  It's listed on the "Try Starcraft II" page as a qualifying graphics card.  Hopefully that means they'll be for sale soon.
