zell2004 Evga sent my 2. replacement with UPS express. 1 day from Germany to Norway! So that was quite nice. The replacement card was new as promised. Im at work now so i wont be available to test it untill later tonight.
Did you have to send in your card first? Shipping costs? and did you have to do any safety/pre payment for them to do it?

I did the advanced RMA the first time. and got the second card before sending back the first. I paid a collateral to do this. which has now been refunded. Sad thing is the replacement card i got from the advanced RMA also had the 100% BS error. So i sent both cards back and they expressed shipped me a new one. They covered all shipping and were very helpfull on email during the whole thing.

Well I have my 2nd replacement GTX 1080 Hybrid FTW and it looks like this card is perfect thus far, minus the fact that it doesn't like the overclock that the other two cards had on the core ( causes some games to freeze, may just be the games ). Regardless I am happy this long issue is over. Good luck to the others still going through this process and thanks again Chris @ EVGA for all your help!

Maybe im just being overly cautious but he's the American spokesperson. After waiting on Amazons backorder list for 2 months I tweeted him several times asking when the EU was going to get any stock. Every time he said '"next week" but it never came. (Something made all the more frustrating by him tweeting out "More stock at Newegg now!" 2-3 times a week) Eventually he admitted "Sorry, I don't have much to do with the EU side" So TL:DR I'll take his assurances with a grain of salt till I have an FTW in my hands (or better yet, in my PC) that doesn't 100% BS. My 3rd card is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes

Just had a chat with a nice chap at EU EVGA. He said that a new batch of cards that came in got labelled up incorrectly, which resulted in many people getting a 2nd or 3rd faulty card. He assured me I would receive a factory sealed retail card, brand new, without the defect. He offered a UPS pick up or if I wanted to ship it myself, they will refund me up to 40 Euros for shipping costs. Like the poster above I am nervous about receiving another dodgy card. This will be my 3rd card now and if it isn't right this time, I don't know what I'm going to do as the shop I bought it from (CCL Computers UK) will not refund me as they couldn't replicate the problem in testing, which I think is rubbish.

Jordanluke they couldn't replicate the problem in testing, which I think is rubbish.
Benchmarks doesn't trigger it, and IIRC stress testing doesn't either. Doubt any store will try gaming as a way of reproducing the error.

Heaven triggers it. What kind of testing would they do if not stress tests and gaming/benchmarks? It's pretty convenient for them to claim there's nothing wrong with the card, while EVGA is acknowledging the problem. Whatever their testing is, it's very one sided in favour of them.

I see. From what I recall people have been doing benchmarks without error but it fails when gaming. Is it only Heaven that triggers it? I don't doubt they would run benchmarks or stress tests, just gaming. Though I guess stores differ when it comes to how thorough of testing they actually do.

tehbigbug What happened to the free Advanced RMAs they were giving out earlier? Now they're asking you to pay extra for their mistake to be fixed? That's just wrong...
They shouldn't be, the only thing they would ask is for a credit card but not charge if defective card is received at manufactures

darn, wish i'd known about the free part :(. personally i didn't ask about it, i simply purchased the option since i only had 24hrs before my 30 days passed. now if only the 1080ti is released in time for me to get the step-up :P
you can have your purchased EAR program transferred to your replacement item, just call them back when you receive the GPU.

Path of exilie did it for me. ALL THE TIME. especially with the first card. Alot of people have been mentioning WOW, Elite Dangerous and Witcher 3 also. Heavenly worked perfectly well with both my cards. I only did like 20-40 mins tests. i did not let it go for hours and hours.

Quick question if anybody can answer, what does the Digits mean within the serial number. I a saw it before in this there and i happen to lose it. too many pages to go through. if anybody can answer, that would be great. Thanks! Edit: Never mind, i found it. In case anybody is wondering. tehbigbug For anyone wanting to know about EVGA serial numbers, here's what I was told by a rep: "The first two digits correlate to the year, so 16 being for 2016, the third digit designates the product type, 0 being power supply, 1 being graphics card, 2 being motherboard, etc. Then the 4th and 5th number designates the factory is was manufactured in, as far as I know. The 6th digit signifies the warranty length, this particular one being a 3, for 3 years, while 7,8,9 and 10 are the part number. The 11th digit is for the region it's sold in and the last 5 digits are simply the serial number sequence."

I only got my card today and I have had this happen. I have played WoW for a short time, played dark souls 3 for a while and modded skyrim with latest enb builds requiring 970+ for around 2 hours. Loaded up guild wars 2 and roughly 20 minutes until the screen goes black and the fans ramp up. I dont want to RMA this, as I have only just got it. Im hoping it is just some issue with guild wars but would need someone else to comment on this.

I feel your pain, but you need to RMA it. If not at the store you purchased then opt for advanced RMA which lets you hold onto the card until the replacement arrives.

So it was purchased after 8/30 and still had this issue? Thought every card shipped after that date was fixed. The 100% BS issue happened to me now about a week and a half ago, after hours of Overwatch, Witcher 3 and Elder Scrolls online I have yet to run into the issue again...my fingers are crossed and I knock on wood before playing any game of course.

If you're just now getting one, chances are you'll be fine. It's been nearly a month since they've supposedly fixed the issue. I haven't seen any complaints about new cards sent out in the past couple of weeks. I'd say the chances of getting a bad one are small but not nil. In the end, just go with what you're comfortable with.

No, mine was purchased 8/25 directly from EVGA. So 5 days too soon.

So happy I found this thread. I purchased a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW off Amazon on 2 September, arrived two days later and all seemed well. Installed it in my existing rig. Played Kerbal Space Program, Arma 3, Sleeping Dogs, Project Highrise, Homeworld Remastered, Overwatch, and Starcraft 2 without issue. Also ran 3Dmark, Furmark and Heaven benchmark software with no problems. I did not touch the clock settings. I first recall the black screen/100% fans issue happening while playing Paragon. I remember it happening 2 or 3 times after seeming random amounts of time, being annoyed and having to manually reset my PC but I stopped playing Paragon and didn't encounter the issue again until a week or so later when I started playing Mad Max. The 100% BS happened every time I played Mad Max after random amounts of time, sometimes within a few minutes, sometimes after a couple hours. I started to realize there was a problem. I ran Furmark for several hours, started running temp monitoring software, cleaned out my case, cleaned my CPU heatsink (temp software showed CPU running hot and I found a thick layer of dust on the heatsink). Swapped out PCI-E cables and removed unneded ones (used to have SLI in this case). Reseated the GPU and installed sturdier retaining screws instead of the case-provided plastic snappy thing. Reinstalled drivers and did all the other normal troubleshooting stuff. The issue persisted in Mad Max. Then I added a custom fan profile in Precision to keep the GPU temps below 65 C (stock settings had it pushing 80+ C in Furmark). The issue seemed to stop in Mad Max and I played for a couple weeks without any issues so long as the custom fan profile was activated. If I deactivated the fan profile, it returned immediately. At this point, I was considering RMA but I saw reports that the GTX 1080 stock fan speeds were insufficient so I figured that was the problem and this fan profile would be the end of it. A couple days ago, I tried to play Rome 2 Total War. The 100% BS happened within one minute of entering the campaign map every single time. I went looking for more answers and found this thread. I'm not sure if this game is more likely to trigger the issue or if as others have said the issue tends to get worse over time. Luckily, I was still within the 30 day window with Amazon so I ordered a replacement from them (yay Prime free one-day shipping). Unfortunately, they said they would be delaying the order until October 4th but the next day they updated and said they would be delivered by Thursday. I was happy to find that Amazon does free cross-shipping on returns and you just have to return the old item within 30 days to avoid getting charged. I didn't realize EVGA was doing free Advanced RMAs for this issue until after I ordered the replacement. The cross-shipping with collateral option was unacceptable to me, I didn't want to pay extra for Advanced RMA privileges, and I didn't want to be missing a GPU for X number of weeks. If the replacement card I get from Amazon has the issue as well, I will attempt to get a free Advanced RMA from EVGA to ensure the next card has whatever fix they seemed to have found. I'm really curious to know what issue EVGA found with the cards. It seems very strange that only certain games, even ones that are not as demanding as others, seem to trigger the issue. That being said, I feel they are handling the issue well. I've bought EVGA since the GTX 400 series and their handling of this has retained me as a customer, despite the inconvenience. Edit: Forgot to say that Debug Mode in the Nvidia Control Panel or downclocking the GPU 100 Mhz or so seemed to make the issue go away for me in Rome 2 Total War. I haven't had any issues since I enabled Debug Mode and will continue to use it till the replacement arrives.

Okay so I found this forum post on Sunday and send a email to support. They replied same day and setup a RMA for me on Monday. I got a shipping notification on Tuesday that the replacement will be here on Thursday and I live in Canada... Not bad...lets hope I get a working one like they say I will. :)

I just got my NEW Sealed 1080 ftw RMA replacement and it's sealed brand new retail box. The only major difference i see on the box is that instead of the foam inserts, its plastic. but the card has no scuff marks or fingerprints. So far i have been running Heaven for a couple hrs now at a stable 77c on stock settings, no fan curve modifications made. At idle it stays at 35c. I will start to OC and see what it can do compared to my first card. Happy so far. Thanks EVGA for the QUICK 2nd RMA replacement! This looks promising. Sorry too many pictures.
