StijnDC I can get the EVGA GTX 1080 Classified for the same price as the GTX 1080 FTW, good deal ? Is it a different PCB than FTW ? With no issues ?
I would avoid both until EVGA gives clarification on what is going on.

Nereus Gahhh just installed couple of days ago and had the same thing happen - 1080 FTW Hybrid, haven't even tried to clock it yet, got black screen, fans spun up to 100%, had to reset/restart PC to get back up again. I was only playing GW2 which is not GPU intensive, card was running well under 50C, was only playing for like 40 minutes. I guess RMA is in order... dammit. Going to end up with a refurb card instead. Purchased from EVGA direct.. is there a 30 day return period like Newegg? My 980Ti never gave me a problem, not even once.
It will not be a refurb card, give us a call we will get a replacement out to you immediately.
I'm not very happy. I received the replacement card yesterday and had a cursory look and saw shrink wrap and a big EVGA logo and thought I had a new replacement 1080 FTW Hybrid as expected. There was a 13 day delay waiting for the RMA to arrive, but I was fine with that as I was aware there was limited supply, and the existing card was working if kept in debug mode.. and I thought a new replacement card meant new card, not a refurb, so no worries. Apparently I was misinformed. Today I decided to take time off work to install the new card. I quickly realized the new card did not have the exterior packaging, it was just the interior black cardboard box with the EVGA logo in shrink wrap. Not an issue, I figured I'd just keep the original outer box and send back the inner box with the faulty 1080 FTW Hybrid (I like to keep all the packaging and included cables & accessories etc for resale value). So I open the RMA black box, and there's the Hybrid card.. and nothing else, and I mean nothing else. No cables, no black envelope with the manual, no accessories whatsoever - nothing. Ok again, not a big deal, I'll just keep all the ones that I got with my original purchase and return exactly what EVGA sent me with the RMA - the bare minimum; the card and the box, that's it. So I start taking a bit more notice of what actually is there. I realize that even the foam padding that holds the card in the box is partially destroyed and some of it is actually missing.. lol, ok, again, no big deal, I'll just swap it with the undamaged foam packaging in my original box, but I'm starting to get wary about this being a refurb card, despite assurances that it would not be. So I open the plastic anti-static bag the main GPU is in and I notice there's none of the plastic wrapping anywhere on it.. ok, I figure EVGA must have had to test the card but I'm starting to wonder, so I take a closer look. I quickly realize this is not a new card. There are a number of bent fins on the radiator, although not so bad as to make it ineffective at all, but enough for me to clearly notice. Then I see there's a whole lot of scratches around the screw holes on the radiator on both sides, so this has definitely been mounted in a case previously, probably in push pull config. There's also some very light scratches on the plastic shroud on the card itself, but not severe at all. Ok I'm not particularly impressed, but decided I'll install it anyway, and if the black screen & 100% fan issue is gone, then no worries. I install the card, have everything ready to go, start up my rig.. and I'm trying to figure out why something doesn't look quite right, then it hits me - the LEDs on the card are not working at all. No light behind the EVGA etc logo whatsoever! Tried reseating just in case, but nope, the LEDs do not work at all. Grrr. I have not had time to test the card yet other than a short load test that shows the boost clocks up to 2025MHz, which is better than the original card (1987MHz on boost), but I will not be accepting it even if it doesn't black screen crash. I had a brand new card and am clearly being offered a broken refurb to replace it, despite assurances above that I would not be getting a refurb. The original card I have already boxed up to ship back is in much better condition than the replacement. I am also a little concerned that if the LEDs aren't working, could there be a short or a loose wire in there? Maybe I should install my old 980Ti for now? (thankfully I have not sold it yet). Not exactly pleased to have to go for a 3rd RMA, and if I can get a refund without a restocking fee I might consider it... and bite the bullet and go for a Titan XP since I have heard no problems about that card at all. I don't even know if I'll bother testing this RMA card for the black screen issue, why use any more of my time when it has to go back anyway? Submitting another RMA request shortly. Very disappointed. edit: just spoke to Gabe at EVGA - I can't submit a new RMA until the original card has already been shipped back.. I'll take it to UPS shop in the weekend.

I am on the same boat with you with my 1080 FTW.... this is sad... getting more and more disappointed. And it does take a lot to make me upset. I'm getting there...

How do you know if you got a re-certified card? My replacement came in a seemingly new box, with plastic still wrapping it. The packaging was exactly the same as a new box but mine was shipped last week, a few weeks after my first month (original was bought August 1st).

Sounds like you got a brand new retail one. You'd know if you got a refurb - missing accessories, wrapping missing, often just a black EVGA box not the original retail packaging, marks / scratches on card etc..

J0NOX Update: Got an update from EVGA about the whole "re-certified" card thing I and other have experienced: I apologize for the confusion. We only replace the cards with brand new ones if they were purchased within 30 days. Since the RMA request was out of that 30 day period, we replaced it with a re-certified card that was tested for the black screen issue as well as any other issues. You will not be getting the same black screen issue with 100% fans as before. Any cards that are shipped out from our EU RMA department after 8/31/16 will not have this issue. I fell a little bit better now that I know this was suppose to happen and that it has been tested by EVGA.Though I'm not convinced about the "Any cards that are shipped out from our EU RMA department after 8/31/16" As I received my 2nd rma from EVGA on the 9th of September and that still had the black screen issue. I'll test the card out later tonight and see if it black screens, if it does I'll send it back to Amazon.
Wait, this is unfair. EVGA confirmed the root cause of this black screen issue is their hardware defect 3 weeks later after user reported. If EVGA could announce this earlier I could send RMA within this 30-day window. I feel anger now.

That certainly was not the case for me.. ordered it from EVGA 8/23, received and registered it 8/31, installed it ~9/6, RMA entered 9/8 (way less than 30 days), and received 9/21 a broken refurbished card in much worse condition than the one I am returning. I'm in USA though, not EU.

Newegg is not an authorized dealer?? I'm sure your safe.. either way ive read of new egg refunding or exchanging the ftw cards if you have a prob. Good luck.

So i just bought my GTX 1080 ftw card on 26/08/16 and i've been experiencing this exact problem, The card arrived on 7/09/16 bought it from Ebuyer, It was working fine for a few days then the black screen started while playing wow ether within 5-30mins of gameplay too around 5-8hrs of gameplay or it'll run fine one day then crash the next day several times. I live in the UK, So do I contact the EU support services for RMA and will the new card have the fix?

Well I hope so.. Just reading the forums that people who got their new card from EVGA after RMA ether got a refurb card or a new card that still had the exact same issue and having to RMA 2 to 3 times... Can anyone clarify who has had this issue and done RMA got their new card and it worked perfectly fine? As well as it not being a refurb card..

My experience - got a RMA card in a plain black Evga box with no accessories exactly what Nereus described. After a day it had the black screen and fan problem. My second RMA card came in a retail box shrink wrapped. It had all the accessories and everything. So far after a week of using it there's no problem. I did notice it clocked lower out of the box (1974) than my first card (2025). Once I increased the voltage it stayed at 2075. So far so good.

Anyone had an RMA shipped to them in the last week? Mine has been "Preparing to ship product" since Tuesday and someone posted earlier that EVGA had told them they cant ship anything because of a technical fault on their end (and have no ETA) Update: Just phoned and was told the technical issues preventing shipping and (my card at least) should ship today or Monday at the latest. Also asked about the on going '100% fan - Black Screen' issue (we really need an abbreviation for that given the number of times we have to write it "100% BS" maybe? :) ) since me and several other people were now on their 2nd or even 3rd RMA and he said they'd had a replacement batch that was mislabelled, but that too has now been identified and corrected so any cards going out now should finally be issue free

As much as I would have liked to buy an EVGA 1080 this year, I decided to go with a MSI gaming X card. Tested last night and everything is running no problems. Card reached 70 degrees and is dead silent. Have not yet had a 100% BS issue yet, and I'm not expecting one either :)

I have had a similar issue with my card - GTX 1080 FTW - black screen with 100% fans when playing Witcher 3. I decided to set a custom fan profile in EVGA Precision OC so that my card does not go over 70 degrees ever. Also bough a new extension lead feeding power to my PC and making sure that no other devices are plugged into the lead except my PC. Haven't had the issue again. Hopefully solved on my end.

Received my replacement card the other day, sealed in a retail box. So far it's been running great. Played GTA V for 4 hours with no problems, while my last card would consistently crash within an hour or so. Also ran Witcher 3 for a couple hours, no problems there either. Hopefully I'm in the clear (touch wood), but I have to give EVGA credit for offering me the best possible solution: a free Advanced RMA, even though I wasn't in the "contiguous "lower 48" United States." It definitely made the RMA process about as painless as possible.

From what I've read the customer support has been very good in this issue. It's the lack of information that people have been complaining about, and generally speaking well of the support.

Reaper122 I have had a similar issue with my card - GTX 1080 FTW - black screen with 100% fans when playing Witcher 3.
The 31 pages of comments before you tell a different story. EVGA have confirmed its a defect on the card. Also it does seem to get progressively worse. I clocked up over 25 hours on Witcher 3 between the first and 2nd crash over the course of a week. A week after that it was crashing every 20 minutes. I do hope you're the exception and it really was just a one off, but id keep an eye on it and use it as much as you can

Well I got a raised RMA request from ebuyer when reporting the issue to them ( Still within my returns policy ) I was wondering should I just a direct replacement hoping to not get the same results or just get my money back. Perhaps maybe just RMA it with EVGA directly and get a new card from them with a higher chance of being fixed. But reading this forum post and some others seems like a lot are on there 2nd to 3rd RMA, although mentioned above the RMA issue has been fixed but I am a bit worried now. Thinking if I do just get a refund from ebuyer i'd buy a different card from MSI maybe.

I decided to send my 3rd RMA back to Amazon for a full refund since Evga thinks its ok for customers to pay full price for a card to be given a used card. Not like its our fault that they messed up their hardware, forcing us to send the card back and forth to them, which in turn is a lengthy process and ofc is going to go over the Evga 30 day return term to be eligible for a brand new RMA card (EU only?). Best part was when I received my 2nd RMA card it was brand new and after the "fix" date and it still had the 100%+BS issue. They told me to send it back because they 'let one slip through' (again, they messed up), so I assumed I was getting a band new card..ended up with a used card that ran slower, hotter, didn't overclock as well, and had louder coil whine. I ordered the MSI 1080 gaming X, if your worried/not confident about the whole RMA process then I suggest you do the same to avoid any hassle (wish I did sooner).

Damn... that sucks! i'm Glad you were able to get a refund. I'm actually on the phone with the I think TECH 2, trying to see if i can get a new Retail one. i wish i could just refund it and go with another brand which i would hate to do because i've liked EVGA after BFG has been out of the picture.

I'm in sort of the same boat... I had to rma my first card because I got rainbow artifacts at stock vram speed. They sent me a new card with similar clocks, but got the BS and 100% fan issue. So I got my 3rd card factory sealed and taped box, but plastic container inside instead of the cardboard with my first 2 cards. Card had power cords and folder but the plastic sealing on the card itself had fingerprints on the other side, and i noticed some scratching around a couple screw holes... the wrap was kind of half assily slapped on as well.... I feel like there was a little piece of plastic covering the little metal 'gtx 1080' logo strip in between the fans also but was not present in this card. I feel like this is not a new card. Also the boost clocks are significantly lower in oc or default clocks. I'm not stoked, this was a lot of cash to shell out for me. What do ya'll think? New card hasn't given me problems... yet... but the old card only BS and 100% fans in ARK... IDK what to do, but im not feeling particularly satisfied...
