I just install the 3D Vision Driver Turn It Off and then Remove the 3D Vision Driver.

Anyone try this yet?

And that sets G-Sync back to turning off on the desktop? You mean the 3d vision driver right?

Yes it adds it to the NVIDIA Control Panel to turn it off.
It stays off even after you uninstall the 3D Vision Driver.
At least that is what 3DMarks shows me.
It even stayed off after uninstalling ALL NVIDIA Drivers and Software Running DDU and Installing a Newer Driver and PhysX Drivers.
At least that is what 3DMarks shows me.

No joy for me. DDU and clean installed latest 390.77 drivers including both 3d vision and 3d vision controller drivers. Once installed I disabled G-Sync via NV control panel and then uninstalled the 3d vision driver. Upon re-enabling G-Sync my power led turned red again. Did I miss something?

Yes, I did this on my X99 a few weeks ago when I installed my new KP Cards.
Why else would I have posted it?

Sorry I forgot Lord of the Forums to run the command below after I installed the 3D Vision Driver
C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\nvstlink.exe" /disable

Yes no joy. I only uninstalled the 3d vision driver and not both the 3d vision controller driver as well. Maybe that's where I stuffed up...

I will stop my current projects and install the 3D Driver Back On and Turn Back On G-Sync and show the Error we get in 3DMarks and post the Images of the Before and After.

I do not recall installing the 3D Vision Controller Drivers.
Also " Upon re-enabling G-Sync" my NVIDIA Control Panel no longer has the Setting listed to re-enable.
Not sure if having to GPU's installed makes a difference but I would think that it is should not.

There is a 3d vision driver and a 3d vision controller driver, no idea what the differences are. I installed both but only uninstalled the 3d vision driver after disabling G-Sync.

To enable/disable G-Sync that is done on the "set up G-Sync" page of NV control panel. Are you saying that went missing?

What monitor do you have have? Does power led indicate whether G-Sync is on or off? If you go to the "set up G-Sync" page of NV control panel its adds a drop down menu right at the top called Display. If you click on that there is option to show a G-Sync indicator. If you turn that on an indication will pop up on screen in a 3d application to indicate whether G-Sync is active or not.

I am going away for a day but would love to try and figure this out when I get back...

Testing only the 3d vision driver ATM.
It takes a lot of time to compete this.
All I can say is the info in the first post did not work for me on my X99 Rig.

Faster than the steps below
This will keep you from having to disable and enable g-sync every time you enter and exit a game.

Tools needed:
Takeownership

#1 Install takeownership by running the installtakeownership.reg file.
#2 If running a sli setup make sure sli is enabled first before continueing to step #3.
#3 Open nvidia control panel and select the setup g-sync menu.
#4 Disable G-Sync then close the nvidia control panel. G-Sync should now be off on the desktop. Red light on PG278Q should now be white.
#5 Open my computer and search for nvgsyncdetours.dll. Two files should appear, delete both the files, one of the files will not delete saying you need permission to do so, to delete it simply right click it and select take ownership then try to delete it again.
#6 Delete the files from the recycle bin.
#7 Reboot PC.
#8 Enable g-sync from setup g-sync menu inside the nvidia control panel.
#9 Notice g-sync isn't active on the desktop anymore. Opening applications that use g-sync will work as normal with g-sync enabling like it should and disabling like it should when going back to the desktop when closing applications that use g-sync. No more enabling and disabling it.

Notes for sli users: If you disable sli for any reason g-sync will become active on the desktop again. To fix this simply disable g-sync, enable sli, enable g-sync.

Other Notes: Rebooting the PC will cause g-sync to become active on the desktop again.
- How to fix for single card users after rebooting: Disable g-sync from setup g-sync menu, reboot pc, enable g-sync.
- How to fix for sli users after rebooting: Disable sli, disable g-sync, enable sli, enable g-sync.

You and me both.
I broke my rig to show it works and now fixing it back as it was.
It fixed my issue when I replace my GTX 980 Cards with a Par of KP Cards.
What caused my issue in the fist place I do not know as I never had this issues in 3DMarks until after I installed the KP Cards.
Big waste of my time today.
Maybe the OP being a MOD can just delete everything as if it never happened.

The Lord is the Lord and what he posts is the law.
I think it all has to do with the Monitor you own as well but who knows.

It would be so simple if this was still in the NVIDIA Control Panel

My Issue in the first place I think...

Re: G-Sync active on desktop workaround. 2018/02/05 16:49:39 (permalink)
Hmmmm.
I have an Acer XB270HU monitor.
I can either set it to Gsync mode, or ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur = its how monitors were done before gsync came out) via the monitors buttons (OSD?).
I set the monitor via monitor controls to ULMB.
I STILL have to disable Gsync every time I install a driver.
Is there any way to see if this is what has been plaguing my desktop and gameplay since the 1000 series drivers came out?
I shouldnt even have the option for gsync since its Off via the monitor itself.
Thanks.

Edit:
I still have older drivers, that has the Gsync option, but I am wondering if this has been an issue for longer than what people have seen with the latest drivers.

Hey bcav, this thread isn't about how to disable g-sync completely. It's about how to make g-sync stay off on the desktop only. Read the thread next time before you start posting.

Hey bcav, this thread isn't about how to disable g-sync completely. It's about how to make g-sync stay off on the desktop only. Read the thread next time before you start posting.

May be this applies "G-Sync active on desktop workaround." on ASUS ROG Monitors
Because your info in the first Post did not work on my Dell Monitor(2) so I had to turn it off in the end.
Dell 27" Gaming Monitor with WQHD 2560 x 1440 Resolution (2k), 144 Hz Refresh Rate and NVIDIA G-Sync 16:9 TN Panel

My original post is from 2015, and it did work back then. No, it doesn't apply because we want g-sync to work in games like normal, but then we want g-sync to be disabled automatically when exiting the game. That is what my original post was all about back then.

I only posted after the 22 hours ago of the last post.
You are welcome to delete my posts as their are off Topic of the 2015 Original Post as it "doesn't apply"
Sorry for taking your post Off Topic, happens sometimes when old thread are posted to I guess.
Off on the desktop was unclear as well to me as Off only on the Desktop would have made it clear, to me the computer is the Desktop.

The option will still show up even if you have it disabled via osd.

It would be so simple if this was still in the NVIDIA Control Panel

The setup g-sync menu is still there for me on driver 390.77.
