Hello I recently started to run into a serious issue. Only when I play destiny 2 or fallout 4 Random times ill loose connection to my monitor and the fans will ramp up. Ill still hear some sound but I must restart to fix. I have been reading on these forums about this issue but being that it is only on these two games it makes me wonder. I tried to re-seat the graphics card but I must admit I cant seem to get to the lever to unlock the card. I double checked the wire connections and all of that stuff seemed ok. I did notice on the master/slave setting on the side of the card was set to slave. But changing it to master didnt fix anything. In destiny I tried to turn off Vsynch and lower the quality of graphics but that made it so I cant even start the game. It will do the same crash at startup now. Im currently reinstalling the game on ssd doubt that will do anything. Also I checked the windows event logs and I found nothing about the game. Only errors were stuff like this at the time of the crash The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{6B3B8D23-FA8D-40B9-8DBD-B950333E2C52}
and APPID
{4839DDB7-58C2-48F5-8283-E1D1807D0D7D}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

This usually indicates the gpu isn't receiving enough power. It could also mean the gpu is defective, or the card is overheating. Make/model/age of psu? What are the temps of your gpu? Try running the card in a different pci-e slot, and try powering the card with a different set of pci-e cables while you're at it. Since you said it only happens in two games try running unigine superposition on its 8k preset to see if you can get the issue to occur.

My PSU is a evga 500B, as far as overclocking no. Just put it in and it played. Cant say the temps but I can tell you it happens sometimes just after starting or hours later. I can try to plug into another port but at the moment im having a issue getting to the motherboard graphics card release lever. Cant seem to reach it. Ill keep trying. Would it be a cable issue if it works perfect on most games? Also someone send me a pm. I cant reply to them yet as i just signed up to this forum

Would it be a cable issue if it works perfect on most games?
Most likely not. Looks like you can't try other cables since you're running the 500B. If you can test the card in another pc I would suggest doing that.

Yeah I can't really test it in other pcs only other one I have is really old and probably wouldn't support it

If you can reproduce the issue running 3dmark, unigine heaven 4.0, or unigine superposition you could take the card to your local pc repair shop to have it tested. Other options would be to rma the card, or try a different psu.

Im going to run this on 8k and see if it happens

Prob defective card.. just like the 1080 ftw 100% fan black screen issue of the past.. I've had it happen on a ftw3 1080ti as well.

Prob defective card.. just like the 1080 ftw 100% fan black screen issue of the past.. I've had it happen on a ftw3 1080ti as well.
if it was the card tho I dont understand why all my other games work fine. Its just destiny 2 and fallout 4.

I just finished my benchmark in the superposition app. I ran the bench and the game settings both passed no crash. here is the results of the benchmark

So after doing some motherboard and bios updates I was able to play for hours yesterday with no crash
I'll do these tests today and see what I get

Well I just ran the "Heaven" bench marking software on Ultra and The exact same crash happened. Monitor was acting like it was unplugged and the fans ramped up to max while I could still hear stuff for a few seconds It froze a few moments later.

Now take the card to a local pc shop and have them run heaven on it. If the problem reproduces itself on their pc your card is faulty.

I would reach out to support but I am also wondering are you running any mods on Fallout 4?
No mods on fallout 4 only thing close to a mod is the creation club, that more of a dlc than a mod though I have not used any of the things in the mod section of the game

Whats up everyone. So a little update to this issue. I was able to get a replacement card from amazon quickly. But My crashing seemed to morph a bit. It will crash still but the fans no longer ramp up to full. The monitor still goes unplugged and everything freezes. Needing a restart to fix. I noticed a few times i saw in the event viewer that the driver crashed. so i did a clean install still does it. I took the side on my pc off because I noticed the exhaust for the gpu was facing the side of the case blowing hot hair back at it but that didn't fix the issue. Im out of ideas

Your replacement is also faulty as are a lot of people’s 1080s with the same exact issue, there’s seems to be some horrid quality control going on over at EVGA this generation. Keep replacing till you get one that works. I have no idea what the hell is going on I’m on card #4 (should be arriving tuesday) [tried a msi gaming x 1080ti and a Strix 1080ti w/ 0 issues] definitely something going on there at EVGA

Still running that same evga 500B psu? I'd try another psu first before while you can.
That idea to test the card in another pc at a local pc shop is also a good idea if that can happen.. if they charge less then $50 I'd say worth it just to know if it's the card or something else in your rig that's causing it.
This reason alone is a good reason to have mulitpal PC's in the house.

I think you're PSU is being overloaded. I'm pulling close to 500 watts on my 850 with a 1080 ftw while gaming.

This is how my issue started, I am on my 2nd evga gtx 1080 FTW, my last one just turned into a brick mid overwatch match. After waiting 4 weeks for the replacement card, I had crashes... so I started troubleshooting, in the end I have done a completely clean install... Destiny 2 and Overwatch still get black screen and 100% fans every few random hours. Rails are 12.146v, tested card in my other rig, same fault. So yes, this is STILL an issue with RMA stock. RIP my 50sr last night!
