BeAtCoAsTeR1 I got my 3090 ftw3 ultra notice, then spent the next few hours reading every review again and tried to justify the price in my head. After spending hours mulling it over, all I'm really getting it for is gaming, and I just couldn't justify price/fps increase over a 3080 (even with Enewt's code), so let it go back to the masses. I'll keep waiting for my 3080 ftw3 ultra notification and that extra $1k can now go a long way to my kids having a really badass Christmas. :)
coldrain85 3090's are moving a lot quicker, probably because you can buy a car for the price of one of those and not very many people are interested relative to the 3070/3080.
I'm in the same boat. Gamer, not a developer. $800 is already more than I have ever spent on a card, but I think the 3080 has the best price point. It will be more than enough for CP 2077, as well as any other game that comes out in the next 3 years. The 3070 seems overpriced for what you get. $500 used to be the price point for a mid-range card. On the other hand, the 3090 costs more than my entire rig. I can't justify that one at all since I don't need it to make a living.

For VR the 3080 is barely faster than my 2080 Ti that runs at 2180 in all games. My 2080 TI scores 5450 in VRMARK ,and the games I play are all DX11, so I do not need all the fancy new features. So I guess I will go for a 3090 and push it as far as I can. For the same volts the 2080 Ti is about as fast as the 3080.

That's super interesting. I don't know that I've seen any comparison for 2080Ti vs 3080 in VR. We need global illumination in VR big time. Anything else RT related would be an immersion plus too.

Just a few years ago $500 was the price point for the highest end card. It's gotten out of control. They went from $500 > $700 > $1200 > $1500 pretty fast. 8800, 280, 285, 480, 580 and 680 were $500, Then 780Ti, 980Ti, and 1080Ti were $650-$700. The it really went crazy after that 2080Ti at $1200 and of course now we are at 3090 for $1500. I mean if you adjust for inflation it can't be 3x times price. Nvidia has been working to drive the price up for years now and it just keeps going up up up. You are right the 3080 is priced pretty well in today's market, but the 3070 is a bit much, and the 3090 is way too much. They know if they have the 3080 where it is the others will sell too.

If I were you I wouldn't be looking to upgrade to a 3080 either. The only reason I bypassed the 2080 is because I wanted to wait for 2nd gen RT. Oh, and because I couldn't find one.

Techpowerup has the 3070 as one of the best price/performance options available, much higher than the 3080 and near top of the list at 4K. So I can't say I agree with "too expensive for what you get". That's a rather odd take. [edit] here is the link: https://www.techpowerup.c...unders-edition/37.html

True. Once the Ti models showed up the price point started to go well above $500. And now the entry level 3090 is $1530 with the FTW Ultra coming in at $1800 + tax. Cripes, I saw a car for sale down the street the other day for 2k.

I completely agree. Used to be the midrange 2nd tier GPU you could always get for around $300, then it was 500, then it was 600 )1080. Anyone that has 2080Ti IMO should be waiting for Hopper. Not enough of a jump to justify spending again but then again, I'm a tight ass. I could buy lots of things but I never do... hehe. Ya can't take it with you though so... this does seem like one of those generations where 5950 and 6900XT seems really secsay... but 5600X and 6800XT will do 98% of it and leave 5-600$ for next year and DDR5/RDNA3/5nm/PCIe5, new storage... etc.

My comment was more about it being the cheapest option. The "70" series, or whatever has been the lowest tier used to be a lot more affordable. $500-610 for the "entry level" card is kind of a lot. As we were just discussing, top end cards used to be in that price point around 6-7 years ago if I remember correctly.

marsh28 So is there no plan to produce the 3080 XC3 Black? From what I've seen, not one of these cards has gone out. Sucks as it was the only card I initially signed up for...
As with all other mfgs, they get GPUs in and they are naturally gonna put them on the cards that make the most money. Not the LCD. Sucks but that is the way of the world.

Yup it's crazy. And don't be fooled by the Ti name. Or really any naming scheme Nvidia uses. Better to compare the chips themselves. Those Ti chips compare to the non-Ti chips that came before them. It was just another way to upsell and differentiate by price. All chips I mentioned are the top end chips they offer to consumers in the geforce lineup for that generation. -100 110 -and now -102 is the better indicator, and how cut down the chip is or isn't You are right, I've bought cars for less than I just paid for a 3090. Not a value but if you want the most frames it's the only way right now. 3080 is definitely the best value. If you are playing at 4k60 or lower it's a no brainer

The reason why is because Nvidia had no competition . Now that AMD has cards that can match and in some cases beat a 3080 those prices will have to come down or Nvidia will loose market share pretty quickly....

There used to be competition from AMD. AMD failed to compete in recent years. When there's a monopoly product innovation and price points suffer. Hopefully AMD will continue to have strong products and things SHOULD get better for consumers. The same thing happened on the CPU side. Unfortunately AMD has to fight on two fronts. Hopefully this time they figured out how to do it. Last time they lost.

If you're 43, I'm 49 so don't get all nostalgic on me. My first computer was a Zilog Z80 Intel competitor with a math co-processor and I played the (Deleted for Language) out of Time Commando on that PC and learned Basic. I did the end of my elementary school papers and beginning of my junior high papers on an Osbourne 1 portable with a freakin 3.5" monochome green screen in Wordstar. (still have!)

scinceday1 This message is for enewt and anyone else who might be new here as I haven't been a member for long enough to send you a pm back. Thanks for your info that was very informative and i appreciate it. i'm on the list for a EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 ULTRA and my submitted time was 10/14/20 so am i right in saying we are about a month or so back from that 9/14/20 ish ?
Hi. That queue for the 3080 XC3 Ultra is currently around 9/16/2020 8:30 pm or so. At a 10/14/2020 sign up date, you are looking at an extended wait. The 3080 XC3 Ultra is still working through its launch day congestion of extensive sign-ups and will likely have some heavier traffic around 10/6 when the queue process was announced. Given how little it has moved -- and it is one of the card queues that has moved -- I do believe you are looking at late December (or even 2021) before your name comes up (UNLESS the frequency and magnitude of that card's drops increases materially). I am sorry I don't have better news.

I appreciate your positivity, man! I guess my silver lining is I can keep putting money away and then instead of a 3080, I'll just get a 3090 instead if that notification comes first! Here's to a HUGE drop on Monday. Praying to ALL the gods

You are going to be getting an email soon I'm sure. Way too close not to. Tons of 3090 FTW3 Ultras dropped this week. Hopefully next week is the same or more. Make sure and check your email on Monday and Tuesday during EVGA business hours 9:00AM-6:00PM PST Pacific time, but really check all week if you don't hear anything. And if you have a spam folder check that as well, you never know! Best to whitelist EVGA.com if you can so you definitely get that email you are looking for. Good luck

ngaugler There used to be competition from AMD.
I like the idea of a resurgent AMD; anything to provide competition and to cause established interests to rethink their approach and to innovate. I am EVGA through and through, but it would be interesting if they decided to explore becoming an AMD AIB partner.
