Hey folks

i have problems with my Z390 Dark, it boots often very slow and when im in the bios it stucks ther very often ! its frustrating.
It cant boot with more than 4000MHz ram ... tried it with diffrent settings

... first... UEFI 1.06

5ghz I9 9900KF (on a apex XI this cpu easy did 4400MHz CL18) tryed my 9900K to its the same
Uncore 4600MHz
RAM Teamgroup 4500MHz CL18 XTREEM (not able to boot 4133 CL18) 18/20/44 put 1,5V on it
SA/IO 1,35V
-25% less vdroop
VCORE 1,25V (cpu dont need that much primestable at 5ghz at 1,2V)
PSU Seasonic FOCUS Platinum 850W
GPU´s Tested RX 580/Radeon VII/RTX 2080

Tried another bdie kit Gskill 3600er CL16 which easy should do 4133 CL17 at 1,45V (did it with the same cpu on a Asus Maximus X Formula)

Im close to sell this frustrating mainboard ... its a new one from a rma this week !

Sometimes it boots extremly slow and stucks afew seconds at 9C and B4 before it goes to A2. Also sometimes it stucks at A2 and need afew seconds to start windows or goeas to the bios after the beep

If i cant find a solution i sell it an buy a XI Apex :/

If it is in a case:

test with all attachments removed from MB to case

still not working - remove from case completely

    CPU & Cooler + 1 RAM & GPU

So, let's start back at the beginning.  Does it boot normally if everything is at stock settings?  If the CPU is at stock, can you run the RAM at the rated speeds?

If so, did you manually step up the overclock until you hit 5ghz, or did you try using the settings from your previous board?

Found the problem ... if i connect a sata ssd (tried 4 diffrent ones and a new cable) my bios stucks ! (removed) ... it disnt show me the sata ssd in bios.

I was also able to boot 4500mhz with the first try without a sata ssd ...

Is my sata controller (removed) ? With the one sata where my system is installed it shows me the boot partition but not the drive himself

Please say that it is not the second new defective Dark :/

Which SSD?  (SATA) M.2 or actual SATA port? If the latter, are you using the ASMedia ports or Intel ports?

Normal SATA ssd not a M.2

I think this is the asmedia sata ? When a ssd is connected it boots very slow to the bios

The ASMedia SATA ports are the top 2 SATA ports.  The Intel's are the bottom 6.  What happens if you have an SSD in an Intel port?

I've seen a similar issue with the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD.  Another member mentioned they saw it as well, including on other brand boards.

Edit:  In other words, it might mean something, but it also might mean nothing.

But i was in the bios and it stucks again so i had to reboot.should i disable the as media sata controller ?

I'd give it a shot.  Also, if you haven't tried, you can always switch to a different BIOS on the motherboard, put your settings in again, and see if it works that way.

Was a short happiness. Today i booted and the dark didnt show me my ssd :/ same port like yesterday.

For me it is to much trouble with a mainboard which cost 560€ :/

It boots slow when a sata ssd is connected ... tryed a mx100 a mx500 a hyper x and a teamgroup ... the same with every ssd.

My opinion ... the sata controller or something which is between the cpu and sata controllers is defective.

Without a sata ssd no bios freezes and it boots normaly

    Im really frustrated 😕

I tryed my teamgroup again. Its shown in the bios ... if a try any of my crucial SSD it makes trouble with slow boot and bios freeze also all of my three crucials mx100 and mx500 didnt work.

Curios tonight my mx100 was working oO and at the morning i booted and it dont work. Now i connect the teamgroup ssd and all is fine.

Is there trouble with the crucial controllers ?

I am having all kinds of trouble since switching to the KF with my Z390 Dark. I've re-flashed the Bios 4-5 times and reinstalled Windows 4. I am back up and running but at default settings. I believe my IMC is not as good as the 86K I was running, but something is seriously going on here with this combo. Most manual memory setting either never take or do take and are unstable and/or corrupts the bios and/or Windows. Last night the system became more and more unstable to the point where it would post, but immediately BSOD. Inside the bios, my mouse skips and everything input lags with instability. This was with default settings. I started a thread when I switched to the KF. Nothing has changed except I can reinstall Windows and refresh the Bios and start over. Overclocking the RAM takes hours for it to take and if it does take, don't mess with it or everything becomes unstable and will not boot unless you can get back default settings, a reflash bios, or complete bios and Windows install.

edit: Not using an Evo...system was fine before the switch
I swapped out every part before reinstalling Windows and bios today, except the case or CPU, just to see

No external devices with separate power source. Yes fast startup is disabled. This is a bare system mostly for benching. It was difficult to tune the memory with 1.04 with the 86K. 1.05 made it no problem and 1.06. This new processor and mb with this firmware is not working out so far. It could be the IMC as I’m just getting to know this chip. I believe it,s the firmware at this point. The system has been running without issue since 1.05. The moment I add the processor I was BSOD immediately after post. I reflashed, reinstalled, and was running. It took a couple of hrs for memory setting to take and was never able to set up my pre chip swap settings to take. Yesterday and today was spent trying to run default and two complete reinstalls. Same system as before.

Hi Custom, let me also have our MB team look into this.  Go ahead and get started on the RMA process, but I'll have the team check anyway, since this is the second board you've experienced this issue.

I can tell you that your previous board did fail testing, but I don't have further details on what exactly failed.

Would be Interesting because my 9900KF had a dark coloured pin (but still works)

I took another MX100 and can boot the system (was preinstalled) and also can run 4500MHz ram settings.
Didnt know if the mainboard kills my SSD and the defective SSD trolls the whole system.

I did a cmos reset with battery outside and took another SSD. Boots normaly. I try to install windows 10 again from a new usb stick.
If its working i didnt open a RMA.

But would be interesting what my first mobo failed with !
