Hawkeye360 I’m interested in how this card compares to the new Creative AE-9.
The AE-9 looks nice. I just watched TheFullNerd podcast on youtube about it. The AE-9 is a bit too extreme for me with the external breakout box.
Personally I really like the idea of an external breakout box. With the AE-9 the external box actually houses the DAC so the actual card doesn’t have a DAC which is interesting. That PC World article has an incorrect statement. They stated that the AE-9 is the first sound card to have a 6-Pin PCIe power connector, but the Asus Xonar Phoebus sound card which was released in 2012 has a 6-Pin PCIe power connector.

FloppyDrive I'm still using a Xonar Essence STX with Dolby Headphone. Will this be doing something like Dolby Headphone? My audio card is a dinosaur, but it still beats both new on-board audio and current add-on cards. I'm stuck with old third-party drivers.
Are you using the Uni drivers from MaxedTech? I'm using them with my xonar d2x which is even older than your card.
I am using those drivers, but I do a minimal install because the full install includes poorly-coded rogue files (thanks Asus) which set off some anti-malware programs.

Hey I have the x-fi fatality tititanium card front panel and sound card and was wandering if you had any problems with windows 10 64 bit drivers because I saw that a lot of people was have problems with the fatality titanium drivers for the front panel and the cards. Since I saw this card I was thinking about instaling my fatality titanium back into my computer but I didnt want the hassle of dealing with old drivers that dont work with windows 10 64 bit since Sound Blaster discontinued making drivers for the card. I had it for 4 years then when they came out with the new windows it quit working, I said would never buy a sound card or panel box ever. But since Evga bought this card out it has me fired up again to put my fatality back in my computer but was wondering if you had problems with yours. I will never buy anything from Sound Blaster again they dont continue support for there products and back when I bought that It cost me 250 dollars. So i'm kinda jittery on buying sound cards they discontinue support. But Evga they probably will continue support on there sound card just like there graphics cards I wish this Nuno had a front pannel like the Fatality did. I would probably but it, but until then I was thinking about hooking my Titanium Fatality front panel and sound card back up.

- Mic-In (3.5mm)
- Optical Out (TOSLINK Passthrough)

I love quality audio so I’m interested in this card. However, I’m currently using an Aorus GA-Z270X-Gaming 8 board and from what I’ve seen in reviews my onboard audio is actually already better than most, using a ssoundblaster ZxRi audio package with a sound core 3D audio chip. Would this dedicated card be any noticeably “better” than what I’m using now?

(Deleted for Language used) Call me when you're going to release a REAL Sound Card, with freaking ON-BOARD Surround sound!!!!! A sound card that can output 7.1 ATMOS & DTS:X, to my 7.1 ATMOS & DTS:X AV Receiver! Actually no, too many cables......... :(((((((((((((((((((( Better integrate 7.1 ATMOS & DTS:X in the graphics cards! They outputted sound for so long...why not make them 2-in-1 perfect????????? The Windows (Deleted for Language used) that is supposed to output ATMOS & DTS:X to my compatible AVR, (Deleted for Language used) It messes with the sound signal output of the graphics card! So PLEASE make this "ATMOS & DTS:X" hardware, firmware and driver level, for all your next graphics cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only listen to epic(ish) sound, coming out of Nvidia GPUs, through the HDMI port, on my awesome AVR! So we don't need sound cards. Nvidia's way was THE BEST way! YOU, make it perfect! ;)

IMHO, it's doubtful that you'd find a major improvement. Your ZxRi package includes a 127dB DAC and socketed op-amps, so it's already very much in premium soundcard territory. NU Audio might offer a better power supply, improved headphone amp, and support for higher bitrates, but those kind of improvements are in the margins rather than anything dramatic. If I had motherboard audio of that caliber, I'd rather put the money into customizing the sound by swapping out op-amps for Burson, MUSE, etc.

I will never purchase a nothing from sound blaster drivers didnt last for that card and box. I have faith in EVGA I have had good luck with graphics drivers so I know I will have good luck with the sound card. When I get it I will let you know how it performs. I will be ordering this next.

I used creative labs for a long time too, but they eventually fell into the category of nothing really new for the cost of even their most expensive setup that really could not beat the audio with your graphics card these days. I liked the inclusion of DSD here and the coordination with AudioNote. DSD alone usually forces better base components just to handle it properly. I do have a fairly extensive SACD collection and prefer multichannel DSD over straight stereo DSD or any other format (Blu-ray Hi Rez, DVD-Audio, FLAC files..etc). Would like to see Multichannel output for the DSD on a future card. Be nice too if they had more information on the TOSLink output available and what kind of output rate it can handle.

I'd really like to see some proper measurements out of this card. I do wonder if it can compete against, say Topping DX3 Pro. Oh, and obviously against AE-5 and the upcoming AE-9. Software side it would be nice to have option that mimics Creatives smart volume setting. Helpful when watching TV/YouTube stuff, keeps the volume even (ads...).

I'm not an audiophile expert but I am rather obsessive to try different types of audio solutions to experience the quality. It's all about the type of output as well (headphones vs speakers) and how the specific game enhances the experience. I'm using 3 different types for PC. For 7.1 audio via speakers I use HDMI on my Nvidia card to my Denon A/V receiver. The high receiver does all the work in putting out great 7.1 sound to my tower speakers. If I want to use a headphone solution I've used the SoundBlaster Ae-5 and my Sennheiser HD 600s. The amp on it's great at pushing the headphones. I've tried a few others in the mid levels with it and it does a good job too. I've had Soundblaster since the first one and Soundblaster still has the same problem it always has with driver issues. The drivers can be buggy to the point of a Windows reinstall. It had caused blue screens from startup detailing the driver as the culprit. It also knocked out my microphone on my Sound BlasterX H3. The automatic driver update detecting software would not work and you would have to manually search for them. The newest solution I'm really enjoying is Creative's new Super X-Fi. This baby is external and fits in the palm of your hand. You can use it with a multitude of other devices like consoles and tables/phones. It's pretty powerful paired with the right headphones. Creative was giving out free 80 dollar cans with it and they work great. They also sell cans with the tech built into the headphones but I prefer to have the piece by itself because if it or the cans go bad I'm not losing out. It did not though drive my Sennheiser HD 600s as well as the SoundBlaster Ae-5 did. I would definitely recommend using cans that are certified for the X-fi setup. On this card personally, I would like to see HDMI connections and maybe support for some other next gen formats because pc gaming is all about being ahead of the console gen pushing new technology. If you look at some receivers out there they have formats where you can get wild 11.1 configurations for example. Certainly, most people would not have that kind of setup at home but it would be nice to see the pc audio industry be as cutting edge as the pc video card industry. Sound is so very subjective unlike video cards. When you get the video cards you can "see" the enhancements right there on the screen. When it's audio you really have to train you ears sometimes to appreciate the extra sounds. You've really got to try a few different ones to see what appeals to you most. Just my two cents.

OK - - I'll byte: A high-end audio card that doesn't support surround sound ? Although I could - if I want High-Fi sound, I have floor standing KEF speakers driven by 100w/channel amplifiers. I suspect most audiophiles do the same. These days, I suspect most high-end audio for computers would be used for gaming applications where 3D audio processing would be useful for locating approaching threats or targets. Just MHO - - I'm sure there are others out there - including that of EVGA which has obviously put beaucoup work into this card.

Is it painfully obvious that this product might not be for someone like me that just uses Razer headphones and just uses their computer for video games?

Anybody can beat Creative Labs they will make a card last for 3 years then drop driver support. I will never buy another sound card from them. Its best you buy this Nuno card one thing about Evga, they will have driver support for this card last for more then 3 years probably until the card shoot craps. Creative Labs is a joke, hell I bought the Fatality titanium card and front header they lasted for 4 years. At $200 bucks in 2009 that was some money and it didnt last a hot minute, driver support for that card was terrible. I haven't bought a sound card since then up until purchasing this Nuno from Evga. If I were you guys do not buy from Creative Labs its a big rip off over there they turned me off from sound cards for years up until now.

Well it work for 3 years for me then stoped I had the Fatality titanium front box and sound card the support from crative labs was terrible took it to the shop so they could find out why the drivers would not work. They told me to just use onboared sound, after spending 200 bucks on a card and box that lasted 3 years. To hell with creative labs people are telling horror stories on the fatalitly cards they were a joke. They turned me off, I spend my money on sound card it should last with driver support longer then 3 years hell windows 8 drivers was even messing up then windows 10. No one should ever buy from Creative Labs.
