It looks like an amazing card but...why? Onboard audio or external DAC / Amps are all people use these days. Those of us with NVLINK / SLI setups + NVME drives can't use internal cards due to a lack of available PCIe lanes. If you made something like this in an external form factor I would buy it without hesitation.

Very nice. I have Threadripper with 64 PCIe lanes so no problems here with lack of resources.

MSRP?  I like that it has a serious amp in it, but the lack of a front panel audio connector is a bit surprising, or am I just missing something?  Can it somehow take over the motherboard's own FP connector?

If Threadripper was good for gaming I would have built a TR system, but it’s pretty terrible unless you need a workstation.

Considering that Audio Note makes amplifiers which cost 95 thousand dollars per pair I was expecting a price which can cause a blackout whoever will see the price.

That's not bad at all if the headphone amp is of a good quality.  USB DAC/AMPs under $100 can't really power higher ohm headphones very well and you can easily spend $400+ on a good headphone amp that I probably wouldn't ever use away from my PC anyway.

Believe it or not, not everyone uses onboard audio or external DAC/Amps, and not everyone is limited to z series motherboards. Most users don’t have 2 video cards, and many (not most) have x series motherboard that have plenty of extra PCI lanes, so there is plenty of space to fit extra pci devices without hindering anything.

Only Z series motherboard are limited to what you mention, so.. plenty of people could easily use this.

SLI support in games is non existing by now. Even if one uses single card and single NVMe drive then they can still use this audio card.

    MQA is proprietary

And I used SLI in gaming for 2 years in Maxwell age, wasn't great.

As for modding you can swap out the opamps with these guys - https://www.bursonaudio.com/products/supreme-sound-opamp-v6/
Might require a little cover modding for the v6 versions

It looks really good and while I have been using on board audio it just gets the job done but doesn't really offer much more then just getting the job done. I would like to have a better audio solution.

Why would they put the front panel header there? It mars an otherwise nice looking sound card.

    Trace layout?
It would have been nicer to stick it on the end just below the SATA power port, but the trace layout might have induced noise

MQA is junk, it's a good thing this card does not support it. Are there any streaming services out there that "actually" provide true lossless audio at a minimum quality of redbook 16bit/44.1khz? Frankly, the sooner people realize that FLAC is the way to go the better.

This card honestly hits all the right notes that a sound card SHOULD have. The swappable opamps is a really cool feature that power users will love, the 600ohm max headphone impedance is awesome for users with headphones that require more drive such as the Sennheiser HD600s, DSD output support, has all the right input recording formats and resolutions.

Coming from someone who has quite a bit of experience with audio equipment (both analog and digital), I would be all over this if I were looking for an internal sound card. I just have no need personally as I have a stupid amount of audio equipment already that does everything this does and more, and the PCIE lane limitation on the mainstream chipsets is most definitely a factor, especially as it sounds like SLI support may potentially increase with current and future gen GPUs.

I have Corsair SP2500 2.1 speakers and a pair of V-MODA Crossfade M-100 headphones. Would I benefit from a soundcard or is my equipment too "low end?"

    I haven't had a dedicated sound card since 2013.
