So I just bought a used EVGA 980 FTW card everything works perfectly except the fans. As soon as I plugged the card in I realised that there might be a problem because only one of the two fans spun up. The fan that spins up stays relatively quiet until I launch a game at which point it becomes very loud. I have installed the newest drivers, installed the Precision X software, and had a look at the connection between the fans and the card itself and still no luck. On the Precision X software there is the option to change the fan speed, this has no effect and it thinks that the fan is spinning at 0RPM. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks, Akilax

Faulty fans/fan controller. Replacing the fans, or rma'ing the card are your only options. Replacing the fans may not fix the issue if the fan controller on the gpu is busted.

Where would I be able to get hold of replacement fans, and would it be possible to purchase an entire new cooler for the card?
    Thanks, Akilax

Best place to look would be on ebay. Replacing the cooler itself won't fix anything but the fans. The fan controller is on the gpu pcb.

Another thing, would it be possible to remove the fan and test it on its own just to see if it works?
    Thanks, Akilax.

Isnt there a mini-fan-to-2-pin(or 3 pin) connector available to buy to test with?
I know I used to have one back in the day, but that was long ago.
It went from the fans little 2 or 3 pin connector on the video card to a regular 3/4 pin connector, or a 4-pin Molex connector. You had to disconnect the fans from the video card though to use it, and I dont know if these new video cards will allow that or not, but its a cheap option.
That way if the fans are good you can use that to power the fans if they are still good.

Nice, thats what I used to have, except it was a 3 pin (OLD lol), and also had another connector on it to actually give a signal to the card that the fans were powered on, so there was that mini thing in the middle of that cable you posted. You could hook it up to the video card to give a positive 'fan spinning' to the card itself.
Like I said , long ago, dont know if they still have them, but nice find if the card works w/o it in windows.

Check out my GTX 970 SSC post. I had exactly the same issue you reported and a set of $33 fans from eBay fixed it for me. Totally worth your time to try that route.
