I got a x99 micro2 motherboard with 6800k and Samsung SM951 256G NVME ssd in it. At the first reboot with the 1709 update, it went right into a blue screen with the BSOD "0xc00000bb”.
I find that this is a common issue with the “x99/x299 + Samsung NVME drive” combo. And it seems that Microsoft doesn't want to fix it.

Here is the thread posted in MS's community:

I wonder if EVGA knew this issue?  It would be really helpful if you guys can help this out with a bios update.

It seems that I can't post a url link. You can google ‘1703->1709 BSOD 0xc00000bb on devices with NVMe SSD's’ and find the thread.

You need quite a few more posts before you are allowed to show a URL link. You can show the link but leave off the http:// and you'll be fine. I hate major Microsoft updates so I backup my data, backup my browser( and the bookmarks), and make a fresh install.

Prior to any update make an ISO of the latest Windows operating system and make a bootable USB stick (or a bootable DVD if you have a DVD writable drive). Once that is done if an update goes wrong try to boot from the USB stick and choose the repair option to see if that works.

I believe this is the link you wanted to post? > https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Windows-10/1703-gt-1709-BSOD-0xc00000bb-on-devices-with-NVMe-SSD-s/td-p/130851

I will also mention that I did not have a problem updating from 1703 to 1709 on my X99 with a 960 EVO NVME.

Are you running the latest motherboard BIOs? If not update the BIOs and try again.

This issue can occur when you perform an in-place upgrade via windows update. The solution to the issue is to do a clean install of the latest build. If you continue to have issues after performing a clean install of the latest build make sure your ssd firmware is up to date.

Yes this is the thread I mentioned.
And yes it seems not every x99/x299 + Samsung NVME combo will have this issue.

I have tried version 2.03 and 2.04. No luck.

Unfortunately, a clean install is not an option for me. So I can only count on EVGA since MS is not trying to help.

A clean install isn't an option? Why is that?

    Possible suggestion

    1) clone your disk before you start - or - whatever system backup you like

    2) Update your Samsung software

    3) use Media Creation Tool make a USB drive

    4) run setup & choose to Keep your Files and Settings

only the M2 drive should be connected to your MB, externally only the USB media / Creation tool, keyboard & mouse

Cause my C: got too many date and software installed. I can't afford to spend weeks to rebuild my system.

Similar to what Cool GTX suggested..Hard drives are dirt cheap..Buy one if need be, always good to have one around anyway..Clone the SSD to it..Upgrade Windows 10 1607 to 1709 on the HDD..Clone it back onto the SSD after the upgrade to 1709..That's what I would do/try since it's being a great big hassle.

Do note that some SATA ports for hard drives can be for 'Data Only' (not an OS) and Windows will fail to complete the install/clone on drives connected to those ports..Consult your mobo manual.

This seems like the only usable way for me to upgrade to 1709. But this issue will remain when the next update rolls out. I really wish that there is a BIOS update to fix this.

Did you happen to download the Samsung Magician software (again, as CoolGTX suggested) to check your SSD's firmware to be sure that you've got the latest version installed? I'm asking since I did not see that you replied to that particular item.

My SM951 is an OEM ssd which doesn't work with Samsung Magician unfortunately.

Seems like I might be in the same boat if I ever do these updates.  I use the Samsung XP941 (OEM).

Hope your issues get ironed out as I'll be on the look out to see what can be done in case the same thing happens here.

For those that don't know, the XP and SM were one of the first few PCIe 2.0 (XP941) and PCIe 3.0 (SM951) SSD drives that don't run on software or firmware update that I know of.  It's just plug n play, setup the BIOS and hope for the best (lol).  I paid an arm n a leg for mine.  Wish I had waited it out for a couple of years.

Edit:  I just checked the history to my Windows Updates and do have 1709 installed.  Make sure and see if not some other program(s) is causing all of this or hardware failure related.
