I posted an earlier story about the Vega Frontier Edition launch but now there is far better news. It appears that AMD is going to launch this item at 999 dollars or about 200 dollars less than the estimated release price. This is going to give professionals a far better financial incentive to use this AMD Vega card as opposed to NVIDIA's professional cards which cost far more.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I just noticed the AMD is legitimately naming everything along with Intel and Nvidia. x299 v x399.. Founders Edition v Frontier Edition. Titan v Vega.

Is AMD incapable of coming up with naming that doesn't mimic another company?

No offense (AMD), but there will be no change. It will be - as always -, louder, hother and slower than the competition.

    -------------------------------------------
For now, the graphics card has been tested in 3DMark Firestrike and scores 17,313 points in the benchmark which is comparable to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card.

Even the Maxwell based GeForce GTX Titan X is faster if we are to compare scores of reference cards with older GPU drivers.

    soooo.....
more expensive than a gtx1080 and not quite as powerful or on par with it

    - I think it is to early to say that, but I'm confident now I made a good purchase last week.
For Vega and AMD, I think it's a strange start, hours ago they deleted a bench on reddit. And I wonder too why no social media guys like Jay or others got their sample allready...

Edit: Besides from that, the card - the features - sounds interesting, but I wonder if AMD will really deliver what they promise, or is it just some marketing?

Probably because these aren't "gaming" cards.. judt like nvidia not sending out Nvidia Titan X(P) and Titan Xp.

Maybe, but from my view I think AMD needs all the feedback (press) they can get.

Edit: Generally, I appreciate competition. But I have my doubts about performance. Probably, it will be as always (with the RX), there will be games that run better with AMD and there will be the opposite of it. No novum. + The bench says nothing.

    Fragile chips???

ok guys  no modding or aftermarket coolers

And ultimately, the Vega-10 package is said to be purely mechanical, fragile according to the well-informed source : AMD gives the graphics card manufacturers apparently explicit instructions to handle the Interposer extra cautiously, Never completely remove the thermal grease as needed, use little contact pressure and do not perform X-ray tests. However, the latter probably does not refer to the usual customs and airport tests, but to actual transilluminations such as die-shots. For the hardware modders, these instructions mean an additional risk of damage if you want to install your own cooling solutions.

Sajin, the bench you see is nothing. The real parameters will be out in a few days or weeks...

I really like the design of the Frontiers, but Nvidia is less stress.

definitely a GTX 1080 stock beats it
on occasion a 1070 beats it

AMD users will say that this isn't comparable to a 1080 because it isn't the gaming version.. just wait for the gaming version...

I still don't see how people can constantly look at things from that perspective. To me, if the Titan Xp performed the same as the 1080 in games, then I could understand them attempting to justify this thought process, but it is really confusing how they always try to make it sound better than it is.

Is the production on the Ryzen better than the Titan Xp? I am at work, so haven't had a chance to research properly. I am interested in all of the comparison for the targeted market for the AMD side versus the Titan Xp.

    The Performance Story
From a gaming standpoint, the performance of the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition did not light the stage on fire. In general, our game benchmarks put the Vega FE somewhere between the GeForce GTX 1070 and the GTX 1080. If the RX Vega product ships with similar performance levels then it would compete in the $400-500 price market, lower than I think many of us had predicted performance to fall. There is still potential that AMD will be able to find some additional performance in the product before the consumer launch, either in drivers and efficiency improvements, higher clocks, or maybe better binning. At most, I could see AMD adding another 10% to the results we see with an odd case of a significantly under-developed part of the driver stack going beyond that.

there is no TBR or Tile base rasterizer right now

honestly what im hearing it's not good
take a gander of 3dcenter.org Forums on vega - talk is TBR has an issue - no simple fix coming either anytime soon
talk is  it's related to the loss of R&D engineers on the GPU side when Rory was there...and something was not caught or fixed - "but hey!!! it could be a bogus issue"
raj was not there for Vega initial design- he's navi

could be if navi is based on vega we could even have a push back on timeline for navi now

I'm really not an expert. But reading that Vega, with a performance like a 1080, needs 850 Watt and Pascal in that version 500 Watt says a lot about the difference in science and development, between AMD and Nvidia.

and if AMD fan bois say it's driver.... give me a break  Vega was in samples in fall last year -Aug 15 2016
so drivers should be done by now even gaming

you have 30days to Vega RX - supposedly - and if you haven't got the rasterizers yet and you had like a full year you are not gonna have them in 30 days
you should have game driver in less than 15 days - have to for testing before releasing the gaming card - you have tech sites people who get samples early remember

there are also reports Vega crashes using blender

look at it this way - tapeout to release
amd -1year and no gaming driver? really  i call BS

    Nvidia 6 months

how long after gp100 we have gp104? not long and with drivers no less

    i suggest reading more here

also look at it this way it meant to compete against gtx titan - not a pro card
they have a series of pro cards coming for professional later

NVIDIA GTX 1080 FE (founders edition)
AMD RADEON Vega FE (frontier edition)

    get it

never ceases to amaze me how AMD steals branding from competitors

I wanted AMD to impress and have a great product but it seems like it was to much to ask for. I wonder though how much of it is based on the way games are made though and if in the future games could be optimized to run better on the AMD cards.

Or... "oh my God, people are mad we overhyped another card, and it didn't deliver anything like we promised... no point in losing another round, delay it again".. lol. Ok, maybe not, but seriously... AMD obviously leaked some pretty big tests showing performance equal to or greater than the Titan xp... and can not deliver a strong competitor against a 1080.. at a 300w requirement... they are legitimately shooting themself in the foot at this point.

Bulldozer comes to mind. I remember their early slides showing bulldozer demolishing the Intel extreme chips of the time. Then they continually made the slides show lower and lower performance until it released and it came no where near what they had been claiming.

Thank you for Gamersnexus. Suddenly, AMD was not able to deliver. But the card - the design of it - looks stunning!

I want to see professional benchmarks before I make an opinion.

In a series of tweets, Radeon RX and AMD employees have confirmed that RTG is launching Radeon RX Vega in about one month at SIGGRAPH. The new tweets do not specifically mention CAPSAICIN, but SIGGRAPH conference in general. CAPSAICIN SIGGRAPH is just a part of SIGGRAPH, so maybe the launch is split, or I’m reading in-between the lines too much?

What would you call a professional benchmark?

People that use it specifically for production. Those that use this in a professional manner

Stuff like this was allready done. Not just with 3DMark. "Professional Testing: SPECviewperf, LuxMark, Cinebench": https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Radeon-Vega-Frontier-Edition-16GB-Air-Cooled-Review/Professional-Testing-SPEC

I expected more too. But let's say it that way: Not just Jensen know how to wake expectations.

Edit: And to be honest, I wish AMD had a better start with Vega, but they did not.
