i tested that originally and if i recall correctly it was right around 1KW... i'll put my meter on it again to confirm.

EDIT: 942 W was a high as i saw it reach. wish i had a way for the meter to show peak over the last hour or so. and that is with all five having a 122% power limit, 100% Core Voltage. and +60MHz. i could push a few of the GPU's up into the +200MHz range but i like to keep them all the same and i lost the lottery on one and can not OC it past +70 MHz.

Chris,

How bad are you being hit with bus thru-put.  I know that a 1070 can eat 25% of the PCI-Express bus when Folding.  You actually may be hurting yourself with bus saturation with so many cards in one box.

its 50% on all GPU's. since they are all on pci-e 3.0 bus saturation isnt a problem. now if this was still pci-e 2.0, which is half the speed of 3.0, then you would need all x16 lanes to not have performance degradation.

For a dummy like me ,how would one tell about bus saturation? Is there an app for that?

i used msi afterburner. most gpu monitoring software has the bus as one of the many things they can monitor.

Afterburner will also show bus usage among many other things

OMG! i just noticed that the new 1080ti cards are true single slot cards with no DVI port, meaning i wouldn't have to void warranty removing them if i were to replace/upgrade to them in this build...

Not sure if this helps the bus usage question, but here are the stats for three 1070's folding...

eyup that is what mine look like. some core18's will have lower bus usage but the majority are just under 50%

So close, just an hour more for leak test and then she'll be off to the races!

Re: New 5 GPU's 1 PC Build Thursday, June 01, 2017 4:54 AM (permalink)
welp, finally got the 4th GPU to fold but the 5th is still waiting on work unit :/ that aside each GPU pulls ~230W stock speeds and with 4 GPU's folding i am at 1160W so i assume the 5th would put the system in the 1400W range. this 1600W PSU is finally getting some work done. PPD with 4 is estimated at ~4.3M. would really love to push to 6M but i do not know if its possible with as little headroom i have in power delivery.

on a side note i can not get my Dual-DVI monitor to work with the DVI-Display port adapter... i'll play around some tomorrow and see if i can fix it.

EDIT: got my 5th work unit and i am now @ 1390W, which is ~86% usage, and considering i saw 7 gamers 1 PC peg just over 1600W on multiple occasions i think this will be fine. also 5.3M PPD estimated.

WOW Chris, that is a great sight!!!!!!!!  I didn't know you changed from the 1070's. I am trying to figure out how the 1080ti logo is showing on your SLI bridge terminal. Is that an EK offering or a Chris special edition? Looks really cool. I would love a powerhouse like that. Very nice!!

that is a new thing EKWB offers with their 1080ti blocks. i actually love the clean look it gives instead of seeing a million screws like before.

That said though i can only run 4 of the 5 1080ti's without eventually overheating my power supply :?  the PC currently runs fine for about 2-3 hours then just black screen from power loss. its quite frustrating but i think i will have to mod this case to accept a larger intake hole to maximize fresh airflow through the power supply to keep it cool. lol, the only part that isn't water cooled >.<

So you are a perfect candidate for that new watercooled PSU that came out last week that everyone was saying is soo unnecessary

that's cool! (literally) but 1400W is cutting it close... also not sure if i have enough radiator space to accommodate another ~150-200W of heat. that said though if one were to come on the market in the 1600W range i would gladly put an additional 140mm rad in the left side of my case, I/O area, to accommodate it.
