Welp i have finally done it! here is my build time lapse hope you enjoy: EDIT: CRAP, why is it that only after publishing one notices that there is missing footage from the time laps... you never see me finish the wiring nor correct the water loop so it isnt blocking the GPU power connectors. i'll correct that and then re-upload soon.

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-FDR-AX100-Video-Camera-3-5-Inch/dp/B00HNJWVIA?th=1 i borrowed it from my father who actually has three of them. he does a good bit of live music recording as a hobby and was able to borrow it. now i am assuming that i am not a high enough rating on youtube it didn't render the higher 1440p and 4K, as i did upload it in 4K60. p.s. the camera doesn't do 4K60 but with 90% of the video being speed up to 50x that higher fps helps it looking smooth and not as crazy. i am also still rendering the replacement video, 7 hour render time, and will upload it tonight, all 4.7GB. so in the morning you can watch the 3 minutes that i left out on accident.

I'd recommend you think about making it two parts, that is a huge Video Looks like you had too much espresso at that speed

the build time took me about 19 hours across 4 days but i only recorded 13 of them. any modding i had to do, like paint and DVI removal, i didn't record. i would agree that the length is on the longer side but i did fall within my target of under 20min. to shorten it to fit within 10-12 minutes i would of had to speed it up to nearly 100x, too fast to really be legible, and splitting a timelapse into multiparters just seems wrong to me.

Very cool video. I've never done water, so it was very interesting to watch. It was also cool to see you, Chris. Now I can put a face to a screen name. Everyone has an opinion on compelling content, so I'll add mine. The portion where you add the water block (or whatever it's called) to a 1070 is cool on it own. Maybe another video with a very specific description. Assuming you want more views...

Gday, I'm into fairly seriously. I'm designing a multiple GPU rig too. My idea is to base it on a secondhand server cabinet so that space is much less of a problem. I've not yet done any water cooling, so the hybrid 1070's are my desire. On YouTube someone was using " PCI-E 16X to 16X Riser Extender Card Adapter PCIe 16X PCI Express Flexible Cable " and they are under $8 on eBay. Anybody used them ?

Buy extras, they tend to be finicky and not always work well, high failure rate from what I have seen around the forums.  Do not make any sharp bends in the cable, it is sure to cause signal issues/ failure.

well how many GPU's and on what motherboard are you trying to run them on? i ask because if you are only using a single 40 pci-e lane cpu you could be limiting your GPU's to x8 or less depending on setup. so there is no need to spend extra on x16 by x16 lane risers when you will not actually be using all 16 lanes. if you want either post some of your specs here or make a thread and i am certain many here will help best we can.

I've seen failure rates of around 20% - 30% on those cables, from some users. As a new Forum member your going to have to earn the right to post links. CPU Xeon E5 -2630 v4 + liquid cooler,
on Asus X99-E WS SSI CEB LGA2011-3 motherboard,
with Kingston FURY 4x 8Gb DDR4-2400 memory,
250 Gb SSD,
up to six GTX 1070s,
Corsair AX1500i Titanium modular PSU,
basic optical drive,
running Win 8.1 OEM 64-bit .
Thanks for explanation about links and useful forums. I've often been up late at night like this, often with only small snippets of information, until now .
I'm hoping to use at least the four double space PCIe slots. Yes the CPU / motherboard above is 40 lanes.
Six of GTX 1070s would be my ambition - just to see if it works. Could always use any spares on other motherboards when the budget permits, or upgrade my older PC. The X99 being a single CPU motherboard lets me spend more money on GPUs that use CUDA cores to crunch work units more efficiently per watt [of electricity that is expensive over here in Australia] .
Would a SSD with PCIe interface make a worthwhile improvement for number crunching?
A brief browse of " Distributed-Computing --- " looks most intriguing. I'll migrate over there as soon as appropriate. Your correspondence is much appreciated.

Well i do not know how much other crunching jobs but i would assume none would be using the hard drive, but i would research and make sure. Also i wouldn't cut your pci-e lanes anymore if avoidable. I know that once you go below x8 lanes you will start to loose performance in F@H but other jobs might not care about lanes at all, like btc mining. So basically you will need to do some research on whatever you want to run and make sure you are not hurting yourself.

Such a great build. Thanks for the video, that's a lot of work!! Nice color scheme. Hey, you should add a few pics in your Modrig page. It will qualify you for the MR drawing as well.  Edit: Great beard hack as well!

sigh, just found out i can not use half the ATX terminals from ModDiy as the wings that bite the insulation are too short for a double wire crimp, so back to MainFrameCustom for my terminals. the ModDiy terminals are usable just for single wire only applications. so now i got yet another week delay. But look at how perfect it looks when i use one of the few terminals i had from last time:

Question for you Chris. It looks like your custom cables basically split out one 8pin PCIE power connection from the PSU into a two 8-Pin PCIE's for the 1070. Is that common practice? I would love to do that just reduce some cabling...

They make 8+6 cables so why not 8+8? You can do this but you'll have to make sure you will not exceed the power limits of your power supply. The only thing that is going to the 8pin gpu connector is four 12v wires and four ground wires. On the evga power supply all the 12v wires come from a single 12v rail. the process of making these is NOT easy but i am actually thinking about making a video of how i do this. But it'll be a couple weeks before i can record and publish it.
