A couple of months ago I decided to buy my first EVGA product after hearing great things about the company and their latest graphics cards specifically the EVGA GTX 1070 FTW purchased from amazon back in October. This was before the overheating issue had been discovered so the card didn’t have the thermal pads installed needed for cooling of vrms.  I wasn’t happy about the whole ordeal considering I paid a premium for this card only to find out something as simple as thermal pads were missing. Nevertheless, I contacted EVGA after failing multiple times to get hold of EVGA EU/UK over the phone. The EVGA US support were great and helped create a support ticket so I could get my RMA started.  I won’t lie the process wasn’t smooth and it took them about 10 days just to approve the RMA. Since my original card was new I was promised a NEW replacement card after paying the hefty £415 collateral for the convenience.

A few days later I finally received the card and all looked good from a far, the box was shrink wrapped and the seals looked intact. However, upon opening box I noticed signs that it may be a repackaged item and now new direct from the factory. I wasn’t too bothered about it as long as the card worked but sadly this was not the case. The card had a very noticeable fault with the RGB LED not performing up to standard when compared to my original card. The card would leak green light near the fans which were visible on several colours and the white would look greenish/yellowish in contrast.  I explained the issue to EVGA tech support and they advised me to try reseating the LED connecter on the card however that didn’t solve the issue.

After investigating I concluded the RGB LEDs may have been damaged during the thermal pad installation carried out by EVGA. I put it down to bad luck and requested another advanced RMA, paying the hefty collateral once again. It was a long wait with UPS nonchalantly changing the delivery date twice without notification. I finally received the card yesterday, the parcel was quite bruised/distressed but not too severely. The EVGA box was dented in the corners but otherwise looked OK however upon opening I was shocked to find the plastic mould holding the card was cracked in several places. Surprisingly the actual graphics card did not look physically damaged but how the mould was in such a state when the surrounding box looked fine is bewildering to me. I suspect it may be another repackaged item, although not ideal as long as the card worked I wouldn’t be too bothered that.  But just my luck this card has the exact same LED performance issue as the previous replacement in fact this one is worse. The ‘e’ in the evga on top is very bright compared to the rest the letters, it still leaks green light and the white looks greenish/yellowish compared to my original card.

I am quite frankly sick and tired of this nonsense. I was forced to return my original card from amazon because of the 30 day return deadline for advanced RMAs and now am stuck with 2 defective cards. I honestly don’t know what to make of all this, I did notice the serial numbers for both replacement cards from EVGA were lower than the card from amazon. Is this old refurbished stock that is being sent out to me? Does applying the thermal pads change the LED performance in anyway? Cause all I can think of is the 2 cards with them were problematic whereas the one without was perfect.

As you can imagine I am beyond frustrated at this point, EVGA still holds my collateral after already receiving the item which I had to pay out my pocket to post.  As much as I love the design of this card, the questionable condition of the replacements I received and the issues are just not worth the stress. Might have to settle for a refund and go with another brand. Can someone at EVGA please sort this out, that fact that I cannot even speak to someone at EVGA EU doesn’t help.

It does vary from card to card, but largely that is correct. The LED on the logo is lit by a single LED and it is mounted near/under the 'E'

So it's been 2 months since I made this forum post and yet nothing has changed.

Still have two faulty cards and EVGA refuses to deal with this matter.

So much for great customer service.

    Sad really.

    my E is also bright...
i don't really mind it, but i have to say it makes the "breathing" effect look quite bad on this card.
and considering that breathing is the only LED effect, next to the silly rainbow demo, there isn't really anything awesome one can do as far as RGB goes.

i signed up for the ICX upgrade,
i'm wondering if they changed the process after the many complaints about the bright E on that new cooler at all?

I underwent the advanced RMA process twice, receiving two replacement cards which both have LED issues.
My original card which I sadly had to send back did not have this problem, it was great apart from the whole missing thermal pads debacle.
Never expected to receive two duds as replacements, especially after paying a hefty collateral payment in advance as well as return postage.
I have been waiting patiently for 2 months for EVGA to send me a prepaid return label as promised so I can return at least one of the cards.

Not really impressed with how this has been handled at all. Never expected a graphics card purchase to be this burdensome, EVGA certainly hasn't lived up to their expectations in this case anyway.

I need my collateral payment back.

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you at least get your money back or a replacement? Fortunately for me, EVGA has replaced all my faulty products with ease and only had a small issue with their customs office holding cards for a month.

EVGA EU/UK must have totally different standards for quality control & customers service. @OP I am very sorry to hear about your awful experience with eVGA, I too would be beyond frustrated.
