TheRealMikeVan That sounds awesome! I'm really glad you like your case! You gotta figure out the picture thing so we can see it haha I love my case too :) I like that the Lian Li has the PSU in the back so I don't need a shroud, it looks cleaner, and my airflow is better. Hopefully that doesn't sound like I'm trying to one-up you, I just really like it hahaha My biggest eyesore right now is that I have three of the stupid daisy-chained PCIE cables feeding through to my GPU. I need to spring for the bridged 8+8+8 from Cable Mod but it's SO expensive T_T
But on the topic of cases, I still gotta bring up the Motif Monument for $200 USD... .............. .................. Not sure what you're paying for there.
I updated pictures! All set. On the Motif, I think it may have to do with low volume manufacturing costs. That metal is much more expensive than the super thin sheet-metal you normally get in a case. It's still sheet-metal, but looks like it's 1/4" thick (or maybe 3/8"?). Then they have to cut it and bend it, which takes some tooling and effort. If they're not selling thousands and thousands of them, they're not going to be making much money even at $200. I am an electrical engineer, not mechanical, but I do work in a business that manufactures products requiring metal cases and I get to see some of the prices...all of our stuff is super low volume so we'd probably pay $400+ for that piece of metal. Edit: I know I don't post much (barely at all compared to many), but I have been a member here since 2009 (hence the terrible user name I abandoned elsewhere long ago) so I am wondering if the "New Member" tag on the left here is just indicative of post count lol.

Boy the forum sure has been quiet since I left yesterday. Still looking for the right case. Corsair 1000D looks really good but the radiator tray I would want is never in stock. But I could rear mount the GPU radiator and having all those intake fans on low it would probably be really quiet. iWin 928 looked like a winner until I saw how open it is to dust. 2 house rabbits makes that a firm no. Lian Li 011D XL I'm not sure about, it doesn't look like the top would allow fitting - does anyone have pics of the GPU and CPU radiators both top mounted in it?

Unfortunately, you cannot install both radiators on the top. You can install one on the top and the other on the side.

jehoffman1 I could use some advice. I am building a new computer to replace my 5 year old machine. I have all the parts, except the CPU and GPU. I'm on the EVGA list for a 3060TI or a 3070, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get one soon unless the volume of the drops increases or a retailer gets some in stock. I wanted to get an AMD 5900x for my CPU but they are as scarce as the Nvidia 3000 series GPUs. Today, Newegg had a scramble. I signed up for a 5900x and a 5800x. I did not get a 5900x, but DID get the option to buy a 5800x at MSRP. I need to buy before 7 PT if I want it. Question: Should I buy the 5800x or wait and hope for a 5900x? I'd grab the 5800x if I already had the GPU, but it is a harder decision when I can't finish the computer either way. Does anyone here have any info on the relative performance of the 5800x and 5900x? I'm not a gamer. I do legal work and maintain a couple of websites. None of the programs I use are terribly CPU intensive, but I normally work with several programs at once: Firefox, Acrobat, Photoshop, Bridge, Dreamweaver, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Quicken. Any thoughts?
I would say go for the 5800x in your shoes. If you're not doing CPU-based rendering a lot, you're not going to notice much difference between a 5800x & 5900x. You can always upgrade later if you feel the need to, but I think the 5800x will serve you well enough.
Thanks for the advice, Dabadger84. I don't do a lot of rendering, but I'd certainly be using the GPU for that as much as possible.
I have never upgraded my machines (except to add memory or storage). Normally, I build a new one every 5 years or so and give the old one to a friend for whom it is an upgrade over what he or she has. My current machine has an i7-6700K and a GTX 970. Either a 5900x or a 5800x, and either a 3060 TI or a 3070, should be a substantial upgrade.
Just saw this post with the CPU you currently have. Even if you "only" upgrade to the 5600X, you're looking at extreme performance gains in every metric over your current i7, all while using power much more efficiently.
Just something else to chew on! Edit:
Thanks very much, SirKronan. The information is very helpful.
i'll go ahead and buy the 5800x from Newegg. With the short supplies, the old saw "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" is more meaningful than usual. My philosophy has always been to buy close to the top. Usually, when I've bought less, I've been sorry later than I didn't go for the better item. On the other hand, when you go for the very top, you usually pay a big premium for a small increase in quality/utility.

lol that just about sums up my experience for about 4 months on BB, NE, Zotac Store, you name it. I finally scored a card last week. At my bill rate for the time I spent looking for a $#@& graphics card, I spent about $20,000 on it.

day after day, still no movement from the low end skus, and movement of the others have slowed to a crawl. So it seems EVGA is severely limiting supply to avoid selling at their original price points. don't be surprised when the queue starts moving a lot faster right after that deadline...

Very carefully, with spoons. Even if it's me you're blocking, here ya go: Click the lil' thing next to a person's forum name on their post, should pop up a drop down or take you to their profile page, where you can then block them (either on the drop down, or on their profile page).
Thanks! Needed that. He seemed to come here just to attack.

rocketdoug I get the feeling that by the time most of us get anything from the queue, we will have found what we wanted from BB or NE or Microcenter or Ebay or.....and a lot of removed notifies (including mine) will cause the spreadsheet movement to accelerate very quickly through once full production begins/resumes. More cynically, I think people will (a) forget they have a spot until they get notified then ignore THAT and delay it another day or (b) figure they'll buy the card in the queue to resell as long as second-hand pricing is high. I'm guessing that the number of people who bother to delete their queue spots out of concern for their fellow man is a distinct minority.

So I bought a b stock 2070/2080 hybrid kit from EVGA. I also bought a 2060 KO Ultra. My plan was to mod the kit to work with the 2060. Its not a fail, but I am wondering if anyone has a 2070/2080 and are upgrading...please let me know if you want to sell! I know this isnt the thread for this, but hey

I had gotten an order in for a Gigabyte 3080 sold by Amazon on 01/28 with an estimated delivery date of today... Still hasn't shipped. Found an email saying it's been delayed I prefer EVGA stuff anyway but this was disappointing to say the least. Edit: Holy crap! It shipped a minute after I posted this. Estimated delivery: Tomorrow!

rocketdoug [snip] At my bill rate for the time I spent looking for a $#@& graphics card, I spent about $20,000 on it.
