Very tempting at this price but I refuse to support scalping.
I guess at that point, you have to ask yourself how you define scalping. People expecting MSRP for these atm are delusional. 3080 Strix are just under 1k and go for much higher on the market. If people are selling FE/Visions/etc for 1200+, Strixes usually go even higher, especially if its the white version. Paying a markup of a 100$ or whatever for a gpu is better than spending god knows how long mashing f5 during drops and Id think people value their time higher.

Yeah but the thing also is that the guy said he purchased it on Amazon, he has the receipt and the box is still sealed. But if something goes wrong with the card I'm pretty sure there's no warranty.
Again VERY tempting, but it doesn't feel right at all.

I'm just goddam sick of waiting for my 3080 FTW3 Ultra; I recently divorced at the end of last summer, there's a lot of **** going on and I was looking forward to cheer myself up with a new 3080 but STILL can't get one after friggin' 5 months of waiting.
This whole thing is just seriously bringing me down and infuriating me to no end.
I registered in the queue since Sept 22nd 6:00 AM and they STILL didn't even friggin' clear Sept 18th!!!!!!!

My queues are all 10/20, or 10/25.
I'm about a million light years away from seeing the tunnel, let alone the light at the end of it.
I'm also more interested in the card that isn't out yet (3080ti/3080super) than the one that launched.
So I was (well actually my wife was) able to grab a card from Best Buy during last Friday's drop. We picked it up today. 3090 FE.
I did some reflection, inwardly, on how stupid this was, and then decided to do it anyway. Comparing this to my entire previous history (as far back as I can remember anyway):
2010 I bought the 280 (Tesla2.0), which after 3RMAs got uplifted to a 285(which was top of that line) ~$250
2011 I had the 460 (Fermi) (2, in SLI, a terrible decision, should have bought the 480) ~$360 for both, I think?
2014 I bought the 780 dual classified, definitely a top tier card $380
2016 I bought my current card, the 1070 (Pascal) $450
So I've spent nearly 1500 in the last 10 years, but this card cost more than every card in this list combined. And my average price per year doubled from $150 to $300.
It's insane. I'd like to pretend I'll keep using this card until 2030, but that's not likely. I suspect I'll get the "itch" around 2025. Hopefully I can hold off at least that long...

I hear ya, I see it like this... These items are NOT LIFE CRITICAL. No one is losing life or limb without getting one of these cards. So then the market place decides what the value is to the end user. This end user price is determined by the Demand, the supply, and the cost of production. The cost of production includes the cost of appropriation and dissemination. When any one of these factors is beyond the normal parameters then everything and everyone gets disturbed. So understanding this, I see a scalper as someone cheating the system in any of the component price determiners. This could be theft, hacking the digital waitlist, denial of access or other means. Bottom line, If you want a card and can find one you need to decide what you will pay. Many will simply go without simply due to spite, others will decide that waiting and saving has a greater value. Some will just get really pissed off because they can not have what they want exactly the way they want it. Another perspective is that every card that gets into an end user's hands means the demand is getting smaller while production continues. sturm375

If I could join in, I'd like to ask at what point does a person become a scalper?
1. If you can get more than one card? Let's say you need one for yourself and one for family/friend.
2. If you buy a card and use it for a few days and then sell it for what you paid?
3. If you get more than one card and just put them up for sale to the highest bidder without even opening the box?
4. You get and order place and take a screen cap of the order and immediately put the picture up as proof that u have a card coming and ask for nearly twice the price?
I have a couple more questions but would like to see where you guys land on these first. thanks
Just my opinion, to be a scalper of GPUs:
1) Use means of obtaining GPUs that are not available to the average person (ie not someone dedicated to geting a GPU, has a real job, using bots, etc)
2) Buys as many GPUs as possible, with the sole purpose of turning them around with a greater than 10% markup.
Really boils down to that for me, but it's just my opinion.

If your willing to pay the price I would just buy it dude. It's pretty clear the scalpers have won this round. You buying that card or not buying that card is not going to change the situation so you might as well have the card homie. Don't feel personally responsible for a market situation the manufacturer's have more control over than you do. I get there's a whole principal thing to it but meh this has been a failure of a launch and with no signs of getting better. Get your cards any which way you can at this point. Probably not a popular opinion but the wait has been way too long.

Yeah it is tempting but it's the warranty that bugs me since he bought it since November 2020 on Amazon. The box might still be sealed but if the card goes tits up for whatever reason I'm SOL.

So it's totally understandable for people not to check in on this thread all the time, but I like when people pop in and go "How much longer until I get my notify??" lol ESPECIALLY when they give no details on their SKU or when they registered for the queue. XD
