If I could join in, I'd like to ask at what point does a person become a scalper?
1. If you can get more than one card? Let's say you need one for yourself and one for family/friend.
2. If you buy a card and use it for a few days and then sell it for what you paid?
3. If you get more than one card and just put them up for sale to the highest bidder without even opening the box?
4. You get and order place and take a screen cap of the order and immediately put the picture up as proof that u have a card coming and ask for nearly twice the price?
I have a couple more questions but would like to see where you guys land on these first. thanks
Just my opinion, to be a scalper of GPUs:
1) Use means of obtaining GPUs that are not available to the average person (ie not someone dedicated to geting a GPU, has a real job, using bots, etc)
2) Buys as many GPUs as possible, with the sole purpose of turning them around with a greater than 10% markup.
Really boils down to that for me, but it's just my opinion.
I would say 20% markup not 10%. Look at the time it would save if the markup was 10% people would not be here waiting. Most markups now are 20 to 50%

It's a bit of a toss-up in my mind with the whole markup and what % to put. On the one hand, they did put some effort (with bots extremely minimal), and on the other hand, not all companies will transfer warranties so if you buy from a scalper, you may have no recourse if your card is a lemon. Just me, but if the warranty is not transferable, I would not even pay MSRP from eBay, would not be worth it to me.

You should probably cry. The reality is that hybrid cards are likely not going to reach anyone this year that signed up more than 3 hours or even 1 hour after signup started.

Man I swear, based on what I've seen this week it seems as if it is actually getting even harder to find a card now and that queue is barely moving.
Anyway... is it silly to go seriously consider randomly walking into a Best Buy with hopes of finding one? Have any of you actually done that or know anyone who has?
I know some folks have had luck with Microcenter, but the nearest store for me is a 6 hour drive so that's not going to happen lol.
ive only heard microcenter. im sure bestbuy employees snatch that up quick if they see it.

Yeah, I would think they would be detoured from doing that with the threat of losing their jobs, but I dunno, just have to take your word for it. I've hesitated to call and check because I have this thought there might actually BE one sitting there on a shelf, waiting, only for me to bring attention to it and have the employee say "nope sorry we are fresh out of those" meanwhile putting it in a bag so they can go sell it on eBay for double the amount. Ehh. I may try anyway. I've seen enewt state on here a few times, "Hope Springs Eternal" - very true, so the thought of that card sitting there on that shelf waiting for me is probably not going away until I actually go find out for myself. Even if I do go and don't find one, I'll most likely go with a friend or two and still end up hitting a restaurant and bar, so... not all bad.

Which is the real kicker because if I have to wait until after April 16th, I probably won't end up buying from EVGA. If I have the opportunity to buy, I'm going to take it. If their game is to wait it out then I won't buy from them off of principle.

A little tighter still. Someone may make the purchase on a hedge (like betting against future available options) so that at least they have something, then they find what they really want later and sell the card... not scalper. Someone might buy it because they're saving the GPU from scalpers, then go to resell to others on a forum or in a local friend-circle for net cost (could include tax, shipping)... not scalper. Yet, if this person sells it for more than a reasonable markup to cover taxes, shipping, and sales fees, then maybe they are a scalper-in-training. What is this number? IDK. Example: 3070 XC3 MSRP $629.99, taxes 7%, original shipping $14.95, ebay/paypal fees 13%, ebay shipping $14.95 = ~$795 break even... so anything >$815-$825 breakpoint before they are labeled a scalper? Gray area for sure. Some people don't realize that taxes, shipping, and fees all take away from a break even position on resale.

The Gaming lack series is getting the short end of the stick, without question. The standard 3080 Gaming is getting a slightly longer stick, but they are almost indistinguishable.
