Wish I knew about this forum before yesterday afternoon. I think the direct link to the notification page might have helped. But really helpful information being posted here.

I'm on the East Coast and was trying to access the site yesterday for notification for the 3080 FTW3 Hybrid right at 9 PT but finally got in at 9:11:13 PT.

Learned about the KingPin release and signed up promptly at 9:23:40 AM PT. More optimistic about this one after hearing the queue proceeded at least 7 mins yesterday!

It's definitely helpful to have a place for people to report when they get emails. Good luck in getting a card!

Buy it, then you can put on reddit or facebook marketplace to trade with 3080 + cash difference in msrp+tax. I’m sure your cpu is still going to bottleneck the 3080 tho, if you can, sell that one and buy a better cpu with the cash you got from trading

I think that's the general plan.. as of this morning the 'Cancel Order' button has disappeared. I suppose I'm committed now!

Honestly 3090 is the worst value/performance proposition on the market right now, if you desperate to have a card now then keep it, if not, I would wait for 3080.

I'm certainly not desperate, and I think you're right. I just hope I can grab a 3080 within a month or two.

Litorth
It largely depends on a couple of factors, in my opinion. Can you safely and responsibly absorb the extra cost? Do you have an immediate need or use, not just a want, for the card? If you answer no to either of those then I would say hold off, you will eventually get the card and you won't have any guilt. If you answered yes, then go for it, and you can always downgrade with ease down the road.

Can I safely absorb the extra cost? Yes.
Do I have an immediate need? No.

Is there a military base nearby? Those guys gets paid **** ton of money every month. Lots of them are young and gamers too. Just put it on Facebook and someone will for sure buy it. Especially if its within MSRP. Just add the shipping and a $50 charge. Totally acceptable and not a scalper pricing.

There is! I would much prefer an in-person sale as well. Shipping is so sketchy right now.

coldrain85
I can relate. I got a buy link for a 3090 XC3 Hybrid earlier this month and passed. I didn't want to spend that much on a card either, but the main reason why I didn't end up buying it is because I only use it for gaming and don't need that much VRAM. So, for me the decision came down to do I want to pay twice as much for a card that performs 10% better. That's basically what you are proposing if all you do is use it to play games. If you are a developer and need the VRAM, by all means keep the 3090. You can't do much better right now short of getting a Kingpin. I don't see how most gamers would be able to make full use of a 3090. Not right now at least.

You also eluded to the other, more pressing issue..... that your CPU is obsolete. If you are replacing your CPU then you might as well get a new MB and RAM while you are at it. The good news is that you can replace all of those items for less than the cost of a new 3080. Then comes the GPU. If you are going to sell the 3090 I would do it NOW. You will never have an easier time selling it than you will right now. Those don't seem to be moving as quickly in the secondary market and the prices are not much above cost. It looks like scalpers are eating it on those cards.... which is a good thing.

~edit

So, I would do this.... get rid of that 3090 ASAP. Get your 3080 in due time (it's not a priority right now), and spend the rest of the money from the 3090 sale on a new MB/CPU/RAM while you are waiting for the 3080. If you go with an AMD CPU (I have been using them since 1997), you can build a pretty sick machine for the price of that 3090. Intel chips are not worth the extra money.

I think that's a solid plan. I appreciate yours and everyone's feedback here. Hopefully I'll at least break even on the sale.. I wish I'd be able to try out the card first!
As for the CPU/Mobo/Ram upgrade, I'm totally onboard. While I am admittedly in the Intel camp, I would much sooner buy an AMD CPU than a GPU.. let's just say I've learned my lesson with an R9 280X and a R9 Fury X..

The EVGA 10G-P5-3897-KR GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 is now the best seller on Amazon for graphics cards

I wonder if the number was boosted by yesterday's faux offering. 6,000 cards were sold, 500 were available.

Update.  Got my 3080 ftw3 ultra shipped over night.  So literally got it less than 24 hours after I got my notification.  Card is HUGE but fits easily in my meshify C.  Also impressed there appears to be zero card sag.  EVGA makes some sturdy backplates!

Haven't ran much on it yet but at stock settings for the gpu, Witcher 3 max settings at 4k with hairworks on in Novigrad was 90-100 fps at 4k...  That's comparable to what my 2080 super was doing at 1440p.. Insane.

EVGA is an incredible company.  Thanks for helping actual gamers get these cards.

That's really not bad. I might do that for mine when my time comes. It'll kill me having to wait on UPS ground otherwise lol. Where do they ship out of, do you know?

I hadn't considered it before reading through this thread but I think that's what I'll do.  Having it sent next day should increase the chances of it making it to me safe and sound + the added bonus of getting it quicker.  I'm considering the next day shipping almost like a form of "delivery insurance".

ooooof, i'm in Northern KY, so ground would be 3-5 days. Definitely doing overnight unless it's extremely cost prohibitive.

It's usually around $40 for overnight. Around $30 for 2 day. And ground like $20. And I don't know about KY, but ground takes a full week from EVGA to CT, so probably close to that anyway.

Overnight shipping to me in Indiana (SW of Indianapolis) was $46. Reasonable in my opinion.

Absolutely, already planning to use enewt's as the effort that's been put into maintaining a quality way of doing queue tracking is impressive and greatly appreciated.

Just my opinion, paying for overnight right now is tripley not worth it.
Regular ground, which is cheaper, will get you your package relatively quickly (in example, I ordered my 3090 FTW3 Hybrid Friday, got it Monday - that was with the cheapest shipping option selected *edit: and no, I don't live in Cali, so that's not why lol*).
Secondly, there is zero guarantee it will actually get overnighted, due to delays given the time of year (holidays are always busy & result in delays) and due to COVID.
And to that end, you will NOT get a refund, as stated on UPS' website & eVGA states as much on the product pages & during checkout if I'm not mistaken.
I would not spend the extra money on shipping, use an Associates Code, get your 5% off, and pocket that 5% + the savings on shipping, and get something else.

I don't know where you live but if you live on the east coast it can take upwards of 7 days because they don't do sat/sun delivery on ground deliveries for some reason. It also only costs a few bucks more to get it 5 days earlier.

Disagree. Like Skleidn said - further east you go, the further those timelines push + more stops = more time/places to get lost. If I get lucky and get one today or Monday/Tuesday, I would love to have it in my hands before christmas just so it's not floating around during the long weekend + holiday.

Just my opinion, paying for overnight right now is tripley not worth it.
Regular ground, which is cheaper, will get you your package relatively quickly (in example, I ordered my 3090 FTW3 Hybrid Friday, got it Monday - that was with the cheapest shipping option selected).
Secondly, there is zero guarantee it will actually get overnighted, due to delays given the time of year (holidays are always busy & result in delays) and due to COVID.

Right. There's never a guarantee you'll get it overnight when you pay for that, but it is a guarantee that your package will take priority and not end up sitting in a truck somewhere at some hub

Yes, fair point.  However, not going Ground at least has the chance to keep it out of the Ground transit system.

I don't know where you live but if you live on the east coast it can take upwards of 7 days because they don't do sat/sun delivery on ground deliveries for some reason. It also only costs a few bucks more to get it 5 days earlier.

I'm east coast as well and just a hair over 2,500 miles from where it will ship from.  I'm willing to throw another $20'ish in on shipping and take the gamble that this time of year that it either might or might not make any difference at all.

Gratz to everyone receiving emails today! Hopefully you will receive your cards in time for Christmas!

Reminder: Last day to register today:

Win an EVGA RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra, contribute to a good cause!

A lot of people (particularly in this thread!) have used my associate code and/or rewards/affiliate code since the 3000 series launch, which I of course greatly appreciate. I figured it would be a good idea to "pay forward" some of this good will, so I used EVGA Bucks to purchase a new RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU to give away. Woot!

I initially thought to contact Jacob and perhaps have EVGA give it away via the EVGA Friday podcast, but I realized the winner (or "weiner" as they say) might not be a forum member, and there's a good chance they would just sell it as most people watching there are gamers with high end rigs already, whereas I'd rather it went to a forum member and someone who will hopefully use it.

EVGA Forum Moderator The_Scarlet_One brought to my attention the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and this seems like a great way to give the GPU away - it's for a good cause, will very likely go to an EVGA forum member, hopefully will be used for folding or personal use rather than just sold for cash, and at the same time might encourage a few new folders to join in (like me). Lots of win in other words!

Cheers!

Honestly the overnight shipping is almost free if you use someone's associates code (savings wise anyways). I understand what Dabadger is saying, but the further from CA you go the wait will increase. I have an RMA from EVGA being delivered today. It took 5 days to get here via Ground shipping. Just depends on the situation and preference I guess. Best of luck to all! :-)

Want to save a few bucks? Use my Associates code!
