Need some advice. Managed to snag a 3090 Ultra.. having some buyer's remorse.

I was not looking to pay this much. Moreover, my aging i7-6850k will surely bottleneck this beast.
I'm happy to have found something, but I was really looking for a 3080 and am conflicted over what to do.
Should I sell it and continue my search? Bite the bullet and keep it? Try and find someone to trade with?
I'm in the queue for a 3881 as of 9/17 for what it's worth. Looking for any reassurance or tough love!

Buy it, then you can put on reddit or facebook marketplace to trade with 3080 + cash difference in msrp+tax. I’m sure your cpu is still going to bottleneck the 3080 tho, if you can, sell that one and buy a better cpu with the cash you got from trading

Honestly 3090 is the worst value/performance proposition on the market right now, if you desperate to have a card now then keep it, if not, I would wait for 3080.

It largely depends on a couple of factors, in my opinion. Can you safely and responsibly absorb the extra cost? Do you have an immediate need or use, not just a want, for the card? If you answer no to either of those then I would say hold off, you will eventually get the card and you won't have any guilt. If you answered yes, then go for it, and you can always downgrade with ease down the road.

Is there a military base nearby? Those guys gets paid **** ton of money every month. Lots of them are young and gamers too. Just put it on Facebook and someone will for sure buy it. Especially if its within MSRP. Just add the shipping and a $50 charge. Totally acceptable and not a scalper pricing.

Here is a link to the Hybrid spreadsheets for those who are interested. I'm #66 in the queue for the 3080 FTW Hybrid, but position #24 is next to be served so it doesn't seem like I am too far back.

Hey everyone, I have a question about this spreadsheet below under the 3070 XC3 Ultra

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRintBllSIYz0TBOTLSbxYW8trXO_V3GUsgOdBEksclTQyBMnXGbrW1j1z_44waeTjLa3t0KEHSjknP/pubhtml#
When you go all the way to the right it tells you an estimated date of when you may get a email for your card.
Now at the top of the column it says that it is just for fun. However I have noticed that every few days the time drops by 10 days at a time.

At first When I found the column it said I would get an email around the time of Feb 10th 2021. That was about a week ago. Now today it shows January 20th 2021.

Can anyone verify if this is for play or could be a real thing? Would be mean to mess with peoples heads right now!🙃

I can relate. I got a buy link for a 3090 XC3 Hybrid earlier this month and passed. I didn't want to spend that much on a card either, but the main reason why I didn't end up buying it is because I only use it for gaming and don't need that much VRAM. So, for me the decision came down to do I want to pay twice as much for a card that performs 10% better. That's basically what you are proposing if all you do is use it to play games. If you are a developer and need the VRAM, by all means keep the 3090. You can't do much better right now short of getting a Kingpin. I don't see how most gamers would be able to make full use of a 3090. Not right now at least.

You also eluded to the other, more pressing issue..... that your CPU is obsolete. If you are replacing your CPU then you might as well get a new MB and RAM while you are at it. The good news is that you can replace all of those items for less than the cost of a new 3080. Then comes the GPU. If you are going to sell the 3090 I would do it NOW. You will never have an easier time selling it than you will right now. Those don't seem to be moving as quickly in the secondary market and the prices are not much above cost. It looks like scalpers are eating it on those cards.... which is a good thing.

~edit

So, I would do this.... get rid of that 3090 ASAP. Get your 3080 in due time (it's not a priority right now), and spend the rest of the money from the 3090 sale on a new MB/CPU/RAM while you are waiting for the 3080. If you go with an AMD CPU (I have been using them since 1997), you can build a pretty sick machine for the price of that 3090. Intel chips are not worth the extra money.

Ignore those estimates, they are not accurate. All you can do is keep an eye on the time stamps ahead of you. That will be your heads up that the purchase email is close at hand.

Yea I bought a 1660 super locally just to get my build up and running. Have 30 days to return it. Hoping to have a 3080 by then. But that might be a long shot.

I'm just going to repost my comment on the spreadsheets from a few hours ago.

The new spreadsheets that sprung up were locked down from the beginning but regularly suffer from intentional or unintentional erroneous data entries.  I find them a good backstop on our reporting but 35%+ of the time, they appear to contain false positives. With respect to the spreadsheets, I continue to take exception to the use of "a projected date of email" column and even the ordinal positional feature (because the data set represents an unknown percentage of the entire universe of registrants).  These confuse folks and generate unnecessary angst, in addition to being inaccurate.  That is why my summary approach addresses the timeline, full stop.  But this topic is well tread and I will wind it down there.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2020/12/18 04:26:51 (permalink)
Hi there everyone! Long time reader , first time writer, LOL!

I've been, like practically everyone here, patiently awaiting my new noob killing machine. For me, it the 3090 FTW Ultra. This card in Europe seems to scarcer than moon rocks. For reals!
I've a few points to share...

1. To the people who've gotten off your arse and created/managed/publicized those spreadsheets of the queues, I dip my cap to you my good sirs/madams. It's people like you who make communities what they are, and while I've done zip other than to type this little note, the work that you've done here in this space has done a lot to remove the frustration that many people feel - and that should be recognized. You've essentially reverse engineered the queue and built up some (limited) visibility into what's moving. I'm pretty sure that when EVGA first introduced the queuing system, that this wasn't envisioned. I don't say that as a bad thing, other than it's quiet warming to see what the power of a community can do.

2. Following on from point #1, I'm a little surprised that EVGA hasn't improved the visibility into the queues. It's potentially an avenue to differentiate EVGA above it's competitors. Before people jump down my neck.... yeah I get it. I get it! There's a lot problems with sharing a queue. You potentially tell people how many cards you've shipped where, what's moving/what's not. You give visibility into what your doing "behind the curtain" and there are potential "General data protection" issues of sharing usernames etc. ..... but these are all problems which can be overcome with some creative thinking. I also get that EVGA is a "downstream consumer" of the parts DDR6 memory, GPU chips and is somewhat blown by the prevailing wind. If the DDR6 DIMMS don't appear, EVGA with the best will in the world can't conjure a card out of thin air!

EVGA in my opinion is "thee" premier GPU card manufacturer. They can set the bar. Even if it's tool late for the crap show of the 3 series cards, some kind of improved ordering process for the 4 series in 2 years, or whenever they come out, would be welcome. You've 2 years guys! Get rocking! A loyal fan base of well intentioned customers will support and thank you. Maybe twice weekly updates from your distribution network? Better ETA's (yes they can change positve/negative) sent to customers on the queue. I'm just shooting ideas - you can I'm sure think of better ones than I can.

3. A personal question briefly mentioned above, what's the story with 3090 FTW Ultra's in Europe? According to the (EU) spreadsheet, **not one single person** has gotten the mail and ordered a card. Not one!?
I'm not exactly bleeding here with a FTW 2080Ti, so while it's been 3 months since I got on the queue...…it'd be nice to know that cards *ARE* shipping and if I wait my time I'll get my slot. I don't mind waiting (well....you know!).....but i don't like the not knowing bit. (see point #2) :-)

All the best everyone! We'll get them ..... eventually!

Just an FYI, in case the community didn't already know....... If you pay via PayPal, you need adult signature to get your card from UPS. I missed mine and fought for another day to pick it up at my local hub...

I paid with Paypal and no signature was needed. The signature could have been added on for $4.25 I think

I didn't opt for it, it was a mandatory addon per the site. Maybe it's just PayPal credit, but again and FYI just in case :-).

Yeah, the problem is that there are like 20+ people (Or more?) per second from 9:09 going forward for minutes... Think of how many people signed up but didn't put an entry on the spreadsheet. :(

Just trying to save someone some headache.

It was mandatory for me as well on my 3090 XC3 Hybrid.  However, I'm friendly with my UPS lady, so she signed for it on my behalf and it was sitting on my front porch when I came back from running errands.

Do they still have bonuses based on time to completion?  Because if so that's not factored in yet, it's my first unit in absolutely ages.

Edit: Oooooooh I didn't setup a PassKey or complete 10 units yet... setup the passkey, the 3090 is now saying it will net 6.8M PPD lol

That's more like it!  You're folding 2M more PPD with one card than I am with four but if I can ever get something to replace an aging GTX 970 I'll at least be close.
