*MODERATORS, PLEASE DON'T MOVE THIS TO ANOTHER FORUM* - yeah, I'm looking at you XrayMan! A lot of people have used my associate code and/or rewards/affiliate code since the 3000 series launch, which I of course greatly appreciate. I figured it would be a good idea to "pay forward" some of this good will, so I used EVGA Bucks to purchase a new RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU to give away. Woot! I initially thought to contact Jacob and perhaps have EVGA give it away via the EVGA Friday podcast, but I realized the winner (or "weiner" as they say) might not be a forum member, and there's a good chance they would just sell it, whereas I'd rather it went to a forum member and someone who will hopefully use it. EVGA Forum Moderator The_Scarlet_One brought to my attention the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and this seems like a great way to give the GPU away - it's for a good cause, will very likely go to an EVGA forum member, hopefully will be used for folding or personal use rather than just sold for cash, and at the same time might encourage a few new folders to join in (like me). Lots of win in other words! If you are wondering what Folding is, it refers to the way human protein folds in the cells that make up your body - we rely on those proteins to keep us healthy. The Folding@home project is based at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, and is focused on disease research (including Covid-19 of course), and utilizes computer power to research potential cures. The problems being solved require many computer calculations, and that's where we come in. The Folding@home software they provide allows you to download work units which are then analyzed to research potential cures, and the results are sent back, sort of like the way SETI@home used to work, if that rings any bells for you. The software itself is a small 30MB self-installing download which is remarkably easy to use, and runs in the background using your browser as an interface. You can set it to run at 'light / medium / full' power, which corresponds to using your CPU only / CPU & GPU / CPU & GPU at heavy load (I think), and you can set it to run all the time or only when your rig is idle, or turn it off completely. All you need to do is enter your forum name and team number when installing (the EVGA team number is 111065), although it is recommended you also get a passkey which means you won't get mixed up with someone else using the same name as you, plus I believe it gives you extra points when folding. EVGA has a team of 'folders', some even have dedicated rigs to fold data 24/7, and from time to time they will have activities to help towards this goal. The latest is the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and participants in the challenge will also be in the draw for a number of prizes donated by members - the 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU I am donating is just one of them. You need to register by December 18th at 8pm Central Time to participate in the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, so do it now! The challenge will start at midnight Eastern Time on Sunday December 20th (points begin counting at 12:01am on Sunday) and end Wednesday December 30th. Details and rules can be found on the challenge website. LOTS of info available on the EVGA Forums Folding EVGA section, and plenty of help if you have questions. Thanks again to those who have used my associate code and/or rewards/affiliate code - it has so far paid for the 3060 Ti I am giving away, an EVGA 1000 T2 PSU for my build, and $67 off my 3090 FTW3 Ultra card when I purchased it! Cheers! I just found out that my 1660ti Was never shipped out by my wife, since I am currently in Florida for work, and one of my GPU's is still with EKWB's right now, so I will be folding on a single card at the beginning of the contest. Not sure why I posted this into your thread, Nereus, but it moves it back to the top of the discussion board, so it helps :-)

I'm not sure it matters if you don't know. I just entered "I don't know" for mine since I'm new.

Ahh ok. I just read the rules and as long as you make 3 million points within the contest period, you should be fine I think.

How many points per day would a part-time 3090 output ya figure? I don't know what number to put on the form... I'm just gonna guess half of what it's saying I can do on the PPD estimate. lol Also in the unlikely event I win, the GPU will be going to my dad, he games (sometimes) and has a 1060 so he could use an upgrade ^_^

I don't know either. I'm running a work unit right now and it's showing it would do near 7 million a day but it's getting a little warm lol - both CPU and GPU sitting around 70C. Good luck for your dad then!

I guessed very wrong lol Looking like it would be around 6.5M per day give or take, but I won't be folding 24/7 on it, maybe 8-9hrs a day, while the sun is up :-D First unit is about to finish then I'll give'er a bit of a break before hopping back in Cyberpunk for a bit.

I'm registering now. Where do I get the estimated folding points per day? The FaH monitor says 59499 points per day. That seems really low, but it is a 2013 Mac Pro. At that rate it will take me 50 days to get to 3 million points. Does that mean I'm not eligible for the prize drawing? Edit: I will contact Troy8d. Second Edit: I can't send PMs.

Post in the folding forums, should be able to get a response there - hopefully the organizers will make allowances.

I have noticed that a few people folded for a short amount of time and then completely stopped folding. The 3 million point rule is the minimum amount of points, but the rule does state that members must fold for the entire event. 24/7 isn’t a requirement, but hitting 3 million points and then vanishing for say 9 days won’t get you entered into any prize pool. The rules are basic and there aren’t many to follow, so everyone needs to make sure they read the rules and follow them.
