Well they finally patched the Avengers game enough that it doesn't crash constantly if you're getting more than 60FPS, was able to play with my full refresh rate at 100/120Hz on that game for the first time tonight - 3090 handles it like butter of course, 340-430W of power draw with peaks in the 50s C, not bad.  Still not sure which looks better, DLSS on Quality or full resolution with TAA, think I lean towards DLSS Quality on that game.

For those that have Cyberpunk: Is it me or does that game not have any native antialiasing settings, other than DLSS or AMD's resolution scaling settings?

GGRRAAAWWWW! A day late and a dollar short story of my life. Congrats to you lucky ones landing a card. I googled nowinstock and installed discord, I selected the icon and I don’t know what to do after that, can anyone provide some guidance on completing the tracker? I’ve been using this app called Goddit but it’s has yet to go off, it must not be working because I got no pop up for amazon.

I've seen "MSRP" used a few times in this thread to mean the low-end target price point for an entire product line (ex. $699.99 for 3080), and while I really don't enjoy being "that guy," I'd hate to see it lead to confusion when discussing prices.

MSRP is not a single all-encompassing target price point for all cards in a product line. In the case of 3080, MSRP does not mean $699.99 for every card. MSRP is the suggested price for each product as set by manufacturers like EVGA. Each card variant (aka SKU) has it's own MSRP (ex. while the MSRP for the 3080 Founder's Edition is $699.99, the MSRP for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra is $809.99, XC3 Ultra is $769.99, etc.).  So when when people have been saying nVidia requires AIB manufacturers to offer a 3080 card "at MSRP," what they actually mean to say is that nVidia requires them to offer a 3080 card with an MSRP of $699.99 (although EVGA cheated a little bit by setting an MSRP of $729.99 for the 3080 XC3 Black, but then initially offering it for $30 off until they met the required quota).

I just don't want people thinking that "MSRP" means $699.99 for all 3080s because then when someone mentions something like B&H offering the Asus 3080 TUF OC for $50 over MSRP, they might be confused as to why that's overpriced because they think that means $749.99, when it actually means $799.99, or think that an $809.99 3080 FTW3 Ultra is $110 over MSRP when it's not - it's exactly MSRP.

I will now await my rightly deserved beating for being "that guy."

No, MSRP is set by NVIDIA. The msrp for a 3080 is $699. If EVGA(or any board partner) wants to put a lift kit on the card or some fat rims and call it a "FTW" edition, that does not change MSRP. I am not suggesting that NVIDIA board partners are going overboard with AIB pricing. Looking at what EVGA is planning on charging for Hydrocoppers, I would say that is pretty fair. Looking at what Powercolor is charging for Red Devils, I would say that is bordering on scalping. No need to muddy the waters. MSRP is what it is and should be the baseline to judge what AIB's are charging.

Sorry, but that's wrong.

Yes; in order to be an AIB partner, nVidia requires manufacturers like EVGA to offer a 3080 variant at $699.99 MSRP. However, that does not mean that nVidia sets the MSRP for all cards, and it does not mean that MSRP is $699.99 for all 3080 cards.

As I posted earlier, each variant in an AIB manufacturer's product line has it's own MSRP (i.e. the price that the AIB manufacturer suggests as the retail price for each specific card variant) - $809.99 for FTW3 Ultra, $769.99 for XC3 Ultra, $729.99 for XC3 Black, etc. The fact that you think that MSRP means a single baseline price of $699.99 that applies to *every* 3080 card is exactly the misunderstanding of what the term MSRP means that my original post was intended to prevent from being perpetuated.

Oh dear sweet God, I think karma just decided to bite me. GPU just died out of nowhere (everything else is powering on but my Aorus RX 580's fans aren't spinning and I know it's not a cable issue because the little light on the side of the card indicating a lack of power would be blazing at me), leaving me without my rig. Glad I've got my laptop! It was a used one from eBay so sadly I might've been duped into getting a mining card, that at least gave me a year and a month before crapping out.

really need that queue to pop now...

Yeah, karma's got a way of biting me when I've been a petulant little child in an otherwise civilized thread, eh? I've learned my lesson, and I really hope it's only the GPU dead on me because I am NOT skilled enough to diagnose finer details. That's what it looks like for now though.

Just in case though, I saw this listing for new EVGA 1070s on Amazon. Can these be used for stepup fodder?

I'm at the point where I genuinely might not be able to wait for the queue to hit me, that 580 was my first and ONLY card (this rig's technically still my first, aside from the upgraded CPU, cooler and case)!

This is exactly my fear - that my current old-and-starting-to-get-flaky 980 will die before I can get a 3080 to replace it. The wife has said that if my card dies, it's okay to pay scalper prices, but I won't do that as I refuse to encourage the scalpers.

Man that sucks.

I would not buy the 1070 if I were you - if you're going to buy a "bridge the gap card" you should not be buying it with the idea of Stepping up - the step up queue is actually moving EVEN SLOWER than the queues here, that's why I resold my 2070 Super instead of waiting to step it up.
If you're going to buy a temporary card, get a cheap one so that you can sell it later or keep it as a backup.
You could keep an eye out on B-stock here on eVGA's website for 1660-series or the like cards. They will be relatively cheap (sub $300), and you can use an Associates Code for money off it as well.  I wouldn't go higher than a 1660/1650-series if it's going to be a temporary/backup card, otherwise you're just sinking a lot of money in to something that's not going to be used more than a couple months.

Edit: Also, the specific 1070 you linked is NOT from Amazon.com directly which means it would A: Not be step up eligible & B: May not even be covered under full warranty - could be wrong about that one but I know for sure it's not eligible for step up if it's not "Ships from & Sold by Amazon" directly, that card is overpriced, & is from a 3rd party seller.

If your card would've died sooner I woulda sold you my 2070 Super XC Hybrid, but that went away via EBay for $550 shipped a few days ago.

You have to have a certain number of posts to be able to use PMs, not sure how many it is - it's an anti-spambot measure.

Bro? I can only assume it's because you don't want to have meaningful gaming capability.

From the sound of it, a lot of folks here upgrade their rig frequently. Between two or three of them, I bet they have enough "junk" to put together an OMG!!!! computer, or at least come close. I bet you also have a few EVGA bucks that you can use.

Depends.

Are people buying various SKUs because they are interested in the engendered differences that seem to justify their price difference - or are people buying anything they can get their hands on and the higher price is acting functionally as an increase in MSRP?

I for one would be happy to pay 800 for a water cooled solution - and don’t care about chip binning. This means I’m getting a deal if I get the 3888 and paying more than I would if products were available if I get the 3898.

In either case I would be very happy to get a 3080 that I’m officially not paying a scalper for. My 3070 is falling short of an acceptable frame rate in Cyber Punk on my ultra wide.

I'm buying any 3080 that I can get my hands on at this point. I passed on an air cooled 3080 in November when the hydro copper was announced, but then it got delayed and I got faked out as a result. My time stamp for the air cooled had already come and gone by then. Once I realized that I would have to spend another $400+ to get a decent tube kit, my infatuation with the HC ended pretty abruptly. Not having any other options, I got back in the queue for the air cooled on 12/3 knowing that it was hopeless since the queue for that card has barely advanced from the 9/17 launch date. It's in the 8am hour of 9/18 at the moment. Soon after that, I had a shot at buying a 3090 XC hybrid and could have had it in hand by now, but I don't want to spend that much on a card. I'm not a developer, I don't need that much VRAM. As of now I'm chasing a 3080 FTW Hybrid. If I get a buy link for it I am getting it without question. No more ******* around. However, as I mentioned above, if a 3080ti is announced before I get the hybrid I will likely go that way. I would rather have that than a 3080HC and an overpriced tube kit.

I will assume 3080 Ti is a tad under 3090 in terms of performance, 1100USD? that means it's like 4% stronger than 3080 that costs way less? in any normal day I would vote that the 3080 is the best GPU nVidia did for a long time unintentionally.. but in the ongoing situation, any available card for its original MSRP is an absolute win!!

For those wanting information about Hybrid card performance/temps etc and whether or not to use the GPU radiator as intake or exhaust, some updates:

GPU set at 2040MHz 994mV (which is both an undervolt, and an overclock, compared to stock) in Cyberpunk, maximum GPU temp was 53C - the GPU radiator exhaust temp peaked at 38C - I don't think anyone would want 38C air being the INTAKE for their system.  Word to the wise: put your GPU radiator as exhaust if you get a Hybrid card.

I now have the GPU radiator fans on control based on the thermocouple temp that is reading the GPU radiator exhaust ^_^ the warmer it goes, the faster the fans spin.  Those eVGA included fans move some serious air but they also get loud when doing so.

My boss pulled me into a surprise meeting 4 minutes before the 3080 Hybrid notify went live. I brought my computer but couldn't load the webpage. Eventually got in on my phone at 9:17. So I am not expecting a 3080 Hybrid anytime soon. Now that the 3080Ti is more confirmed than it once was, I might grab something now and step up in Feb/March. And that means I might not have to pay for a 3090...

Won't be that long, the queue was barely functional for several minutes after 9AM, very few people got in it before that I think, though there are a few that got in at very early times, bulk of the entires started around 7-8 minutes after.  I wated til 24mins past because I'm not in a huge hurry to debating the finer details of going to a 3080 Hybrid or keeping what I have.

I would even accept a normal air cooled 3080haha. Looks like I am scheduled for March or something. I don't want to wait too long, so maybe I just get the 3090 and be done with it. Though it would be nice to spend the difference on something else...

No, that purchase would NOT be eligible for the Step Up program, for the simple reason that it is not sold by an authorized reseller, i.e. Amazon.com. That card is being sold by AmazinXpress, as you can see under the Buy Now button.

Let's not be greedy here.  I think an even 10 minutes would be good movement today.

Of course, I'm at 9:10:48 AM PT so that might have something to do with my opinion/hopes on this.  :)

1:36 away from the Hybrid FTW 3080!  I hope my number gets called in the next drop or two.

Would be awesome if I could get it before Christmas.

One day left to register...

Win an EVGA RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra and other prizes!

A lot of people (particularly in this thread!) have used my associate code and/or rewards/affiliate code since the 3000 series launch, which I of course greatly appreciate. I figured it would be a good idea to "pay forward" some of this good will, so I used EVGA Bucks to purchase a new RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU to give away. Woot!

I initially thought to contact Jacob and perhaps have EVGA give it away via the EVGA Friday podcast, but I realized the winner (or "weiner" as they say) might not be a forum member, and there's a good chance they would just sell it as most people watching there are gamers with high end rigs already, whereas I'd rather it went to a forum member and someone who will hopefully use it.

EVGA Forum Moderator The_Scarlet_One brought to my attention the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and this seems like a great way to give the GPU away - it's for a good cause, will very likely go to an EVGA forum member, hopefully will be used for folding or personal use rather than just sold for cash, and at the same time might encourage a few new folders to join in (like me). Lots of win in other words!

Good luck with the queue emails today!

Cheers!

I'm way out at 9:17 and some change for the 3080 FTW3 Hybrid. So, yeah.. Wouldn't mind seeing the queue speed along at a good rate. I was in the "day one" queue for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra (air cooled) and received a notification back on October 7th.. I missed that notification while I was at work (only a 5 hour claim window at that time). Missed it by 45 mins!!! Yeah. Was not happy.. lol. Then, they changed the claim window to 8 hours shortly after. Good times!

Oh well.. I'll get a card sooner or later. Just going to continue being patient.
