I'm not surprised. Hybrid drops have been infrequent since January. Once a month, not including straggler drops.

There is no way I'm going to get a card before the prices go up if the next drop isn't even going to happen until the first week of April. Who knows, maybe China and the US will decide to put the stupid tariff on hold in the mean time.

Lian li 011d xl black here, and it's great once you get past how frigging heavy the thing is 😆

I'm ok with heavy. It got good reviews from Gamer Nexus. I know this sounds silly, but I have 5 of the expensive 140mm NZXT AERGB fans with the Hue+. It all ties in nicely with my 280mm NZTX AIO that has the built in LCD for temp monitoring or entertaining the kids with Star Wars GIFs of "The Child". The biggest fan rack in the case only holds 120mm fans. The bottom only properly fills in with 120mm fans. The back? Only 120mm. You can put 140mm fans on top (up to 3, I think??) and only two on the bottom. There's not really a good way to use the beautiful RGB fans that I already have. They test the case with 2x140mm fans, and it looks stupid. It has a small slice of fan-shaped gap on either side of the two fans. So only 2-3 of the 140mm RGB fans will really fit in the case (on top, probably with the 280mm RAD) and look good. I'll have to either buy a bunch of 120mm fans or just do without. I do have a set of the unicorn 120mm Lian Li unifans I could throw in there on the bottom that would look spectacular, but I only have three, and they can't properly be used on my 280mm RAD. Not really wanting to have to buy a bunch more fans, I guess. Plus 140mm fans are really better than 120mm. Push more or the same air with even less noise. It's peculiar that even with a brand new 2021 revision of the 011D XL that they are still limiting most fans to 120mm. It seems like they drilled some 140mm holes in the bottom as an afterthought so you could stick a 280 rad down there or something. I was almost 100% decided to buy that case because of the unique and unmatched looks and cable management. It's simply incredible, and there's nothing else out there even remotely like it that I'm aware of. But then I saw the 120mm fan thing thanks to Gamer Nexus.

Sounds like you need the Asus ROG Strix Helios! That's my grail case and you can fit up 140mms all over that bad boy! :D

Love the RGB. All these builds got me jealous. I have a very budget PC with an R9 380. Decent for casual gaming but it struggles when I stream.

You know, if it wasn't quite .... um ... I don't know how to put it to the right words, really. It's just kind of over the top. It wouldn't really have the look I'm going for in my office, which is where it will eventually end up. I like things that look "understated" but still nice. The Lian Li is nice, and has lots of glass to focus all your attention on the innards. It also doesn't have much in the way of "gaudiness" or fancy transformery looking stuff on the outside that would pull your attention away from the inside. The Fractal Design is even more simple looking, and I would almost consider the frosted glass to slightly dim the innards. It is just very simple looking, and I don't mind that. When I eventually get a nice 3080, the inside will more than make up for the simple looks on the outside. Fractal design also has a very healthy respect across their mid to full case line for 140mm fans.

I mean, just look at it. The only thing I HATE is the stupid ROG print on the glass. I mean, why there?? WHY? The Der Bauer logo inside is good. It's subtle. But that ROG on the glass? I would be willing to look past it in a heartbeat if not for the anti-140mm construction inside. See how clean those 120s look on the bottom? I mean. WOW. That's really all I can say that properly describes it. And the black and white theme will be fine with black or white stuff on the inside. I have some black and white PSU sleeved extensions I can use to go along with a black+white theme, and it would look simply stellar in that case, but I'd have to spend some serious money on fans to make it work, and I really want all my fans to match this time. If I get a case that takes 4 or 5 140s, I've already got it made. The NZXT AER fans are just gorgeous and have amazing lighting options, not to mention great static pressure performance for the radiator.

Ugh. Can you think of any other case that is like the 011d XL but with 140mm fan slots? That glass front AND side is just simply incredible. I am familiar with the Thermaltake View series, but it's not quite the same, and I don't really want an open air case with just a piece of glass and all your hardware otherwise exposed, as I have young children in the house.

I started assembling my new computer while I wait, and wait, and wait, for a GPU.

I got everything installed onto the motherboard, installed it into the case, and started attaching cables when I got a big surprise.

The 3 fans pre-installed in the case have 3-pin non-PWM connectors. All of the fan sockets on the MB are 4-pin. The case does have a header with a 4-pin lead one can connect to the MB, and sockets for 3-pin connectores, so the situation is workable. But would have been much easier to connect the fans directly onto the MB than it is to plug them into the case's header.

The case is a Fractal Design 7 XL which just came onto the market in 2020. The MB is a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master, which came onto the market not too much earlier than the case.

My question is WHY would Fractal Design put 3-pin fans into a brand new design case at a time when new MBs have 4-pin sockets? And, it's not like Fractal Design was caught by surprise. The Asrock MB in my 5 year old computer has only 4-pin fan sockets; and the fans that came in the Coolermaster case I bought for that computer 5 years ago have 4-pin connectors.

Fractal Design has a good reputation for its cases. I assume that it had a good reason for installing 3-pin fans. Anyone know what might have influenced that choice?????

My other problem, which I would have had whatever case I bought, is that those tiny connectors for the power switch, power LED, reset button, etc., are an insurmountable challenge to my arthritic old fingers. I will have to find someone with more dexterity to attach those for me. Fractal Design kindly provides a "G-coonector" into which one can plug the wires and then plug the whole connector to the MB. Unfortunately, plugging the tiny wires into the G-connector isn't any easier for me than plugging the wires directly into the MB.

Getting old is the pits, but it beats the alternative.

Other than the 3 pin fans, which is likely simply a cost-saving measure on their part, what do you think of the case overall? I have a Meshify S2, and it is very impressive, but it's what I plan on building a PC for two of my kids with. I am a full tower kind of guy myself, and you're the first person I've had the chance to directly ask that is building with this case. There are several cases on my short list, and most of them I have nowhere to check them out in person. So far, this 7 XL is at the top of my list, closely followed by the new version of this one available for preorder from Lian Li:

https://www.newegg.com/bl...-case/p/2AM-000Z-00049

I just finished assembling my new computer in the Fractal Design 7 XL case--except of course for the hole where a GPU should stand.

All in all, I like it. It is sturdy and it appears well built. It is customizable and comes with extra parts that can be added or substitute. It was pretty easy to build in, but that's largely because it is mostly empty. I've installed memory, and NVME storage on the motherboard, and a couple of extra fans on the top. I have no SATA devices installed. It comes with two top panels. One is a solid piece of steel with sound deadening material inside. The other is a perforated panel for better air flow. I plan to use the perforated panel except in the unlikely event that the computer is too noisy to run that way. My old computer is in a Coolermaster case with ventilated panels and it's pretty quiet. I'd expect the new one to be at least as quiet.

A couple of reasons I like a big case are
(a) that I am old and clumsy, which makes it easier for me to work on the case if there is plenty of room, and
(b) it is a handy height for a phone and a external HD to stand on top.

Apart from that, a mid-sized case would have been less expensive and less bulky.

Two things I don't like about the case:
1. There are no easy ways to grip the case (apart from taking off the side panels) if you need to lift it to move it, and
2. There is no HD activity light, which I find useful when the computer appears to have frozen.

The other thing I like about the case is that it is attractive but not gaudy. I don't have any lighting inside the case. I'm a retired lawyer. It's a case I'd feel comfortable having corporate clients see in a law office.

I've almost certainly overbought on most of the parts. My hope is that I'll be able to use it for the next 5 years or so without upgrading or opening the case to replace failed parts.

I'd like to get a 3060 TI but it looks much more likely that I'll be able to get a 3060 much sooner. Fortunately, a 3060 is probably enough to serve my needs since I am not a gamer. Another possibility is an AMD 6700 if I can get one at launch and haven't gotten an EVGA card by then. I'll be sorry to buy a non-EVGA card if I get a 6700 since EVGA cards have served me well over the years, but I'll get what I can get during this time of shortages.

are you putting the sl120 on the Bottom pulling air in?

Will be pull from bottom, back. Push/pull intake in front and exhaust on top.

Apologies — power and cell outage at home. Car office is suboptimal for keeping up with the threads and reports. Tonight’s summary will be delayed.

I am running these too , funny thing is they will make some bad noise over the grating on the bottom.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/03/11 19:14:51 (permalink)
Anyone thinking of taking one GPU and then using the step-up program to get the card they really want, should read the details of the program to understand what is involved.

While it is amazing that EVGA offers the program at all (since it is then stuck with used cards that cannot be resold at retail), there are a number of detailed steps that need to be followed. The steps aren't difficult, but it is easy to screw up if you don't pay attention. And, then, it is not cheap or easy--even if you do follow the instructions to the letter.

First, you need to pay list price for the new product. So, if you buy a 3060 on the queue, and want to trade up for, say, a 3080, you will have to pay the current list price for the 3080, NOT the queue price for the 3080.

Next, you have to pay full sales tax on the new product without credit for the tax you paid on the product you return. (Not EVGA's fault. At least in California, that's the rule of the greedy California authorities who need to raise enough money for Gavin Newsom to dine at the French Laundry Restaurant, where dinners can run to $1000 a person with wine.)

Then, you have to pay shipping both ways.

AND, the worst part, you wait until you receive the new card to ship the old one back (not even if you are willing to leave a deposit in case you fail to return the old one). You have to send the old card back and wait up to 3 days after EVGA receives the old card before it ships the new card. That means doing without a card for about a week, something many people cannot do.

Step-up will be a great program for some purchasers. Just be sure you understand the requirements before planning to use the program. Also, note that the choices to which you can step-up are limited. Only a few of EVGA's SKUs may be purchased on step-up.

This is the part that irritates me... You are only paying the difference in cost, therefore tax should only be applied to the money being exchanged.

You missed main thing: there also queues for Step-Up! And it moves so slow... For example, line for 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra even doesn't passed one day after launch(12/02/20)...

Use associate code to save 3% on your EVGA GPU purchase! And up to 10% on other products!

Why Sales Tax must be paid from full price, not from a difference?
Sales tax must be paid on the full amount, since the GPU is brand new.

Can I use associate code to get 3% off Step-Up price?
We cannot offer a discount on the Step Up.  You may use the associate code for the first card purchase.

https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3236365
Comment to second question: you can use the associate code for the first card purchase, but it decreases first card pice and as result increases Step-Up price!

Use associate code to save 3% on your EVGA GPU purchase! And up to 10% on other products!

Excellent and detailed advice! I greatly appreciate it, and I will keep all of this in mind, should I consider doing the step-up. I mean, I'm already considering it ... I guess I can step up from the 3060 12GB I just bought, provided they release the 3080 ti within the next 90 days, right?

I don't have mine on the bottom, but I have no weird noise at any RPM, all the way to max at approx. 1800-1900. You just hear the normal fan sounds (mostly pushing airflow noises) get gradually louder. Do only the bottom mounted fans make this noise?

Walk me through how you have it connected. Your unifans come with the Lian Li branded controller, correct? Once you have that plugged into your USB ports, you should be able to install Lian Li's software and control it all that way. You can also connect your motherboard's header and control it with your Mystic light software too, according to their description. My MSI motherboard in my main rig is at home, 1400 miles away from me right now, so I can't test them with Mystic Light yet, but I have an Asus motherboard here. With everything connected, I have no issue controlling the Lian Li fans with their own L-Connect software. And in L-Connect, if I flip the switch to motherboard control (the 3 pin motherboard connecter is plugged in from the included Lian Li fan controller) then I can control the lighting with the Asus software. I have had zero issue with any of it so far.

I have some priorities very similar to you! The subdued and understated looks on the Fractal Design are just the right balance for me. The 011d XL Lian Li case is almost too much for me, but just enough inside the line that I wouldn't feel uncomfortable having it running while working with clients in my office. I mean, it's rare for a photography client to come into my office, but it does happen. And that Lian Li case is definitely pretty enough to be on my desk, seen by folks entering the house. The giant Asus case with all the mech-warrior looking stuff and velcro straps and large print branding on it .... I would feel less comfortable. I like things in that room to look "pretty", and I don't think that case would fit. The Lian Li cases are such works of art. They really have attractive designs and nice geometry. They just plain look good.

Also, the room for cable management in that Lian Li is incredible, from what I've read and watched online. Because the PSU is shrouded underneath everything, you literally just pop your cables out to the things you need to plug in, and all the space around the motherboard, graphics cards, and storage devices is just free and roomy for big or clumsy hands to have no trouble plugging stuff in. Switching/replacing/upgrading components later is equally pleasant, because of the unique design. It's like the important connected bits are literally pushed out towards you and your reach on a little pedestal, beckoning you to connect and disconnect to your heart's content.

But the 120mm fans ... and that stupid ROG logo. Why put it on Lian Li's current premiere "work of art" case? If it is paint that can be scratched off, I would absolutely do that. If it is laser etched into the glass, well, I know this seems like picking nits, but that combined with the weird fan hole decisions just pushes me in favor of the Fractal Design. I really appreciate your feedback! This is so helpful. Seriously.

Great idea to bring that to attention on this thread IMO. I also appreciate you and nick_shl discussing the process. I just got my 3060 and looked over the Step-Up process yesterday and imagine a lot of people are doing the same. Like you guys, I'm grateful we have this option at all, but am not convinced yet to go through the process considering the supply issues right now (not EVGA's fault). I'm also mainly hesitant because the 3060 isn't my most desired card so I'm really still trying to get a 60ti/70/80, but it's nice to have it as the backup.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/03/11 20:11:25 (permalink)
Foiled again.

Clearly the universe doesn't want me eating healthier, working out or getting my gpu. A cell coverage outage in my area this morning followed by an afternoon power outage left me bereft of my connection to the outside world, a working stationary bike (that's my argument anyway...I didn't actually check) and ordering Chipotle for dinner. I had to drive to a spot with cell coverage in order to even check on the status of the outage, let alone communicate with my boss (with whom I was in a 1:1 zoom call when my laptop went...dim (battery mode)).

I would not make it in the worlds of Outlander, The Last Kingdom or The Karate Kid; at one point tonight my wife caught me in a pitch black room staring at my iphone...a blank safari page was open on the screen...nothing was loading and yet I was still staring at it. Not one of  my proudest moments.

Regardless, apologies for the lateness of the update tonight. Absent Elon Musk delivering a Powerwall to my home (and assuming the lines under the street somehow remained powered...which is unlikely), it couldn't be avoided.

May your power remain on, energize your dreams, and keep your family warm and safe. We go again tomorrow.

The steup ups take even longer than the queue, but atleast you have something to use.  One thing about the step up is that your choice to move up to is limited.  Only the FTW3 Ultras if I'm not mistaken.  Check out the thread about the step ups in the forum and you can see how the progress there is much slower the queue.

Not a lot if count on forum... I counted 11 people who received 3060 Ti(all step in into program at release date), and 19 who still in line: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3239030
Obviously not all people who uses Step-Up uses forum... but still - doesn't look as a lot.

Efronam not convinced yet to go through the process considering the supply issues right now (not EVGA's fault). I'm also mainly hesitant because the 3060 isn't my most desired card so I'm really still trying to get a 60ti/70/80, but it's nice to have it as the backup.
You can step in into Step-Up process now, then you can cancel it at any time - no any obligations. Obviously if you will be able to find better card you should buy it, sell your 3060 - it will be more profitable.
I stepped in into Step-Up program with hope that it can be faster then other ways... looks like this is not the case.
