nomoss I build systems for friends and family. I put the 3070 I got off the queue into my wife's new build. My own gaming computer died so I need a 30/70/80/90 for my next build. My godson wants a budget build so I need a 3060 or Ti for that build. My brother in-law wants a mid-range system so I need a 3070 for that build. My buddy makes video games and does graphic arts so he wants a 3090. My daughter plays minecraft and wants an RTX card for ray-tracing, so I need a Ti for her.
I'm not at all a fan of the 1 SKU per household because frankly, I would have bought 5 of the 3070s when I got my notify and been done looking for anything other than a 90. But I understand that EVGA is doing what they can to limit the abuse of the system.
But I'll buy every single card they notify me of, because if it doesn't work for the system builds I already have planned, it will be needed for the next batch of builds I take on. If that makes someone mad because I got into all of the queues I could use before them, oh well.
"need" lol. you dont NEED any of the cards mentioned and you could likely more easily satisfy your goals with previous gen RTX 20 series or GTX 16 series cards. you WANT the new gen. no one NEEDs a gaming GPU.

GTX 16 cards don't support ray tracing and 20xx cards don't do it well. Why would I pay 20xx prices for cards that don't perform as well?

an RTX 2080ti performs very well. and they aren't that hard to get. same with RTX 2080S, etc. I've bought like 6 EVGA RTX 2080ti XC Ultras from various avenues online (reddit/ebay/etc) over the last few months, and paid between 500-700 for them each. reddit r/hardwareswap is the best place to catch a deal IMO, and usually cheaper since you don't pay the ebay-tax. if you can settle for a 3060 for some of these systems, you'd be perfectly fine with a 2070 or 2070S since they perform similarly. if you can settle for a 3060ti for some of these systems, you'd be perfectly fine with a 2080 or 2080S since they perform similarly. if you can settle for a 3070 for some of these system, you'd be perfectly fine with a 2080ti since they perform similarly (actually the 2080ti is a bit better here, and has more VRAM and more mem bandwidth). lower your expectations or lower your settings. you can still enjoy a game even with raytracing turned off if you needed to.

Backplates don't do a whole lot for card sag and the 3060 isn't a great value past to begin with, much less once you start paying $389 or so for it.
For an 8" card it does a lot. For 1080p gaming and most content creation the 3060 is a great card. But you know what, I'm not going to try to convince anyone to like it. Everyone ignore this card so that I can buy it sooner for the budget build for my godson.
I didn't say it's a bad card, I said it's not a great value. The 3060Ti is a lot better for not that much more. But, if you can get a 3060 and it suits your needs that's great, no argument there.

I'm not the one whining. I have been waiting patiently for months. The ones blowing up about miners and spewing conspiracy theories here are definitely the ones whining. Maybe you misread my statement.

I never said it was above 300, I said it started going up before you said it did, but its ok you obviously in this situation have to be 100% correct and no one else hense having to use bold on " my calculations are correct".Please make sure you understand what I said. I was correct in my statement that the hashrate was climbing before Jan 21. It was clearly as you can see on your own chart that it started going up as early as April of 2020. Slowly I admit but it was trending up. It spiked up towards the end of last year and again in January of this year.

Can we please stop with all the chat about how these cards are used for mining and why they should/shouldn't be or how efficient they are at it, or how you "need" or you "want" so and so card and the arguments around what is a "need" and what is a "want"? I come to this thread to get updates on the notifies, I don't really like filtering through all the extra crap. Please hijack another thread.

Yep but every needs a 3080 or 3060ti or 3070 at msrp because it is a money earner if you mine with it. So I am certain that I know 50 people that both mine and game with their rigs. I know because I built them mixed use rigs since 2016. All of them need a better rig than the 1080ti rigs I made for them As 1 3080 burns 300 watts or so while mining. and a 2 card 1080ti rig burns 500 watts or so while mining. the 3080 does 95mh the 2x 1080ti do 88mh So they want to save the environment by reducing power burned and make more money. Since we can't live for free and getting the 3080 earns them more money they need it. While the logic above may sound twisted it is economically sound .

this is still a want, not a need. people WANT to mine to try to make money. no one NEEDS to. if they cared that much about the environment, they'd quit mining altogether. how did people ever make money before bitcoin/mining existed? *ohthehugemanitee*

To be fair you only mentionned one of your systems needing RTX (for Minecraft). He's got a point, you don't need a RTX 30 series for a budget build, but then again it is your money and you do whatever you want with it. However in times like these many of us are in the same situation as you, so why would you be made an exception?

Agree, used electronic goods are great value. I myself bought an used gpu. At this time there is no point in going for brand new stuff when its availability is less & price is high. More or less these are asks not needs. I have decided that 60fps on medium settings is good for time being, no point in paying more and fill the companies pockets, that extra money is worth used else where.

He's got a point, you don't need a RTX 30 series for a budget build, but then again it is your money and you do whatever you want with it. However in times like these many of us are in the same situation as you, so why would you be made an exception?
Never said I wanted an exception. I clearly said I understood why EVGA was limited the SKUs. My comment was in response to an earlier poster who was whining about people being in the queues for multiple cards. Every system build I'm doing is built around 30xx cards. That's the choice of the people they are being built for. And we're all patiently waiting. I don't put used cards into builds I do for people because if it fails they blame me. Warranties protect them as the users and me as the builder. What I find really funny is that gsrwhatever is starting silly arguments with everyone here and on numerous other threads while he's already bought a 3060 and a 3070 and simultaneously telling me that I should move on with my life instead of getting a new card with a warranty. But if arguing about it makes people happy, to each their own, I guess.

stoney77788Good luck to you and if you haven't gotten a card hope you do soon. I do, but not one I want. I want EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P5-3667-KR because of cool 3 fan look and performance or EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC BLACK GAMING, 12G-P5-3655-KR because of price. But was lucky enough only to get overpriced( lets forget about shortage) 12G-P5-3657-KR.
