I think anyone who buys a godlike loses just for the sheer fact they have such a pretentious named board as “godlike”
But seriously lets be frank, anyone who is buying a 4 memslot board because they cant wait for this to be released isnt the target audience of this board. I mean this is for benchmarks, no company will make waterblocks for it. Sure it can be used as a daily but make no mistake this is in the league of asrock z170m ocf, gigabyte soc ln2, and asus impact/apex boards... they sacrificed capacity for performance

Sorry if im kinda on a tangent but seeing all these complaints about “only 2 dimm”, when thats literally the reason you buy the board just drives me nuts. This is an extreme OC board. Not an enthusiast board

And buildzoid knows more than enough to be dangerous. you guys splitting hairs over a few vrm will never get close to utilizing, need to take a break

You said what I’m too diplomatic/lazy to say. I’ll be using it for daily, but I like the layout and I have a 2x16 kit ready to go. You’ll see no complaints from me about one slot/channel even though I don’t plan on using the board for extreme OCing.

I know this isn't a MSI forum... but what would people recommend between waiting for the Dark, or grabbing the MSI Godlike z390?

I'm running an i9 9900k would like to play with the overclock... I love the looks of the MSI Godlike and have 3 m.2 drives... but the Dark just looks like a work horse meant to maximize performance and I love the side facing connectors...

So my question... price out of the question... how do you all feel the Godlike fairs compared to the Dark and what we know of it? Thanks!

Nvm looks like my question was answered... lol

I honestly love it when people come into this thread to tell everyone that they bought some other motherboard. I mean, less competition for me. I’m glad you are happy with your purchase.

Blind fanboyism isn't helping, either - I've got an Aorus Xtreme sitting *in a box*, merely because I was able to get it for $50 off through an eBay promo code, and buying from Newegg's eBay store gives me a 30 day return policy.  I bought it as a hedge just in case the DARK ends up being "oh, early-to-mid FEBRUARY."

We deserve way more official information than we're getting, and what little information we *are* getting has to be borderline coerced or obtained passively by Luumi's videos.

“Fanboyism”? Ouch. No, I’m most likely going to buy either the Dark or the Apex, whichever is first to market. As far as I can tell, there is even less information about the Apex out there. I get that you are annoyed with the hush, hush behavior regarding the Dark. We all are, but that’s the way companies are. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn into February. I’m expecting a CES release, but if I’m wrong, I may have to look elsewhere too.

like I said you can use it as a daily, the layout could probably allow for some thicker rads and fans in a case up top, wire management could be cool. I mean Im just gonna be doing  water for quite a while since I dont think my phase could handle the load of an 8core(will have to rig it up for ram), and LN2 is flippin pricey when you are filling up 160L tank.

Im hoping I can get this for a reasonable price though, mobo pricing is insane these days if you ask me, didnt maximus extreme used to be 350 or 400? i remember the x99 stuff in this range but what the heck happened?
even x series never had a 900$ waterblock board... lookin at you gigabyte

Scored an RTX 2080 ti black today. Started the first part of my loop. Tried to upload pic but isn't working right now.

Goodluck, i returned my formula, my ftw3 had heatfins interfering with the front plate. Wouldnt screw into my case.
Also heard it sucked for OC. Those heatsinks are scratch magnets too.

Anyway asus sucks this generation

I returned my formula for the same reason.

Seems there is a few people like myself that couldn't get the board inside a case because either the rear io was messed up or the backplate was interfering with the centre standoff.
The board is also a finger print magnet and scratches so easily not to mention the sub par vrms.

Dude it was wretched, I literally scratched the crap out of the top near the water inlet trying to clean it with an alcohol pad.... my finger nail did it through the cotton. Flippin ridiculous...

Lol i have the same video card issue with my code that I got stuck with, while trying to get hardware at launch. Luckily i was able to refund the formula.

All these frontplates and rgbs are getting ridiculous

Not too worried about scratches and it fits just fine in the Mini Fridge case. Folks are getting great overclocks with these boards. The VRM is really a non issue. I'm not going to use Liquid Nitrogen so that's not really a problem. I'm sure if I have a decent chip, I'll be able to hit 5ghz or better. Big question will be if I can flash bios on RTX 2080 ti Black.

If you don't mind PM me with the details how you did that. I have done my first hardline - PETG build this past few months but need to make a few changes. Would be interested to here how you pulled that off

Precision x1 force flashed my FTW3 on install on my formula so i dont see why u flashing a black would be an issue. Honestly u should be able to flash a gpu on any mobo.

My big gripe with asus formula is its overpriced at 450. And that my gpu didnt fit on the card. I didnt get a chance to really mess with the ram but the cpu oc wasnt any different than on the code.

Only board id probably get at this point would be a taichi as a place holder.. really not happy with my code tho. Cant do 4600 xmp on any stick out of 2 kits of gskill royal

It's now most decidedly "late December" and still no new information.  I know it's *right* after the holidays, but still.

Re: EVGA Z390 Motherboards! 2018/12/26 20:20:52 (permalink)
I wonder if the delay is because of Intel's 14mn woes?  Intel simply cannot even supply the z390 chipset on 14mn process and are trying to push old ass 28nm chipsets and crap like that which I hope EVGA is unwilling to settle for on the dark.

Of course this is a guess, and I could easily be wrong, but it just seems strange how little info EVGA is giving about a release date... I mean usually brands want to put products to market, that's the whole point right?

I've actually never needed to replace a CMOS battery. If one ever needs to, can you simply get those at any CVS or wherever?

The battery is an easy to obtain CR2032. It's just that there has been a rash of bad batteries on the X299 Dark and I see in the pictures above they are the same brand battery. Unlike the Z390 Dark pictured above where the battery is out in the open on the X299 it is under the pch fan shroud and requires board removal for screw access.

I was more posting to tease them, was not going for knee jerk rable rousing.

This Dark has me thinking about giving EVGA another whirl.  I'm not having any issues with the VRM on my Hero XI....but the "twin 8 phase" advertising jargon left a bad taste.  Not a Gigabyte or MSI fan regardless of the VRMs due to crappy UEFI.  The EVGA Dark does look sweet.
