Memory topic convo is HERE!! <--Yes peoples click the link
Well, to be fair, there isn’t really a whole lot more to say regarding the Z390 boards at present. To summarize the last three weeks of comments: we want the Dark and many of us are sitting on >$2500 worth of computer parts with no way to use them. EVGA isn’t releasing the Dark fast enough for our liking and every once in a while someone threatens to buy the Gene or one of the many Gigabyte boards instead because the Asus Maximus Hero/Formula/Code line is disappointing so those are the only viable alternatives.
It's not just this - it's the fact that EVGA has to be demonstrably *pressed* to give up *any* information about the DARK, and even then, just the smallest tidbits of information. I've been in this thread for about half a dozen pages now, and the recent and complete lack of official response or presence over these past two months is both noticeable and vexing. During the last EVGA webcast, the Twitch chat was alight with "talk about the Z390 DARK" comments, and Jacob seemed reluctant to even engage it, finally telling us all "sometime in December" just to shut us up. Now it's "mid-to-late December." There's no reason why we shouldn't 'guesspeculate' it won't slip into January at this point. I can't speak for all of us, but I want information. Since we obviously can't be told *when*, I want to know *how much*, because I'm pretty sure that's information EVGA has. They know how much the board costs to make and how much they have to charge for it to make a profit.
I know, dude. I was there. I bet Jacob actually wants to give us information if for no other reason than to shut us up. I hesitate to admit this, but it’s kind of fun to siphon off some of my frustration to the faces of the company by asking over and over about the Dark, making them uncomfortable. I’m sorry I’m a terrible person. If it costs more than the x299 dark at launch, something is seriously wrong.

Yeah I think EVGA's idea of "Coming Soon" and my idea of the same are quite different. I also noticed after the first batch of FTW boards they have been out of stock now for a while. Sure hope I don't miss the first batch of the Dark as I have all these expensive parts here just waiting on it. That is my big fear that I will miss the window of opportunity whenever it does open up.

I'm thinking it will come in at $399-$450, although they would sell out all the initial units at $599. I have to imagine that the delay is because they want to ensure it beats ASUS Gene for all the world records, you wouldn't want to buy the board only to realize that the record breaking board was a Z390 Dark Rev 2.0

I’ve observed the same comments for years. A product is released when it’s ready. Otherwise, people complain about a product being released that wasn’t ready. Which would you rather have? I’ve got all my parts and am anxious but would rather have no headaches when I put it all together

I'm not trying to pull a Veruca Salt here. I just want more information than what we're getting - we shouldn't have to badger EVGA for information, especially after 2+ months of silence. Another bit of info wrested free: "It will be the most expensive EVGA board, but final pricing hasn't been decided on yet."

Ordered the ASUS MAXIMUS XI Gene from bleepbox, can't wait 2 weeks for an overpriced Dark that I might miss the original stock run if I am in a work meeting or something when it goes live >.<

Nope, and mATX is even a question mark at this point. They've got their hands full with the FTW and DARK.

The coming soon, next month....a few weeks more..... has gone on with EVGA since I joined in 2007. I have been away from the forums for quite some time but this is one thing that hasn't changed. Love the boards I've gotten (sans the 680 memory killer board) but this game they seem to promote is getting old quick. I was kind of shocked it was still going on. Hopefully it will come out sooner than later but as Delirious mentions, it needs to be right or it creates a whole new set of issues.

Hello, So after the Asus VRM story I have been looking into other motherboards and came across the EVGA Z390 DARK. I have been reading through the thread and as far as I understand there is really no information about a possible release date, Just it will be this and once you there it goes to it will be that and no one really knows, and those who know are silent, correct? Then my other question regards the wisdom of placing both the 2x M.2 slots on the board in a place that would be directly overlapped by a graphic card especially if you get the 3 slot EVGA 2080Ti FTW3. Wouldn't the extra heat coming off the heat sink of the gfx card cause throttling on NVMe SSD mounted there and possibly help speed up killing it?

There will be a thermal pad to go between the bottom of the M.2 drives and the motherboard. They will be there to transfer the heat from the controller chip on the backside of the NVME. The controller chip is what gets hot. The memory chips themselves don't really mind a little heat. If your video card is creating enough heat to affect the M.2 cards then it is probably running way too hot

Asus Maximus XI Extreme is also delayed approximately up the same date as the Dark. Both mobos are aimed at 9900K overclocking. Maybe something holding them back, like some unresolved firmware issues with Intel. The Asus mobo will be the first z370-z390 motherboard to support 128Gb of RAM via extended ram modules, and it is known as a fact that Intel is currently working on final compatibility of the chipset and the extended memory modules. So probably the Evga Dark will also support this RAM, and is awaiting for the compatibility RAM update before launch, just like the Asus Extreme. I'm getting the Asus, btw. 3 years of legit warranty from a shop next door is better than ordering something off another continent.

Doubtful on those gimmicky memory extenders. The whole deal with the Dark was for overclockers and most only use 16 - 32gb anyway for speed / stability

Xi extreme isn't delayed I have had the board for over a week. Would have bought the dark but evga gives no info and got tired of waiting. The vrm on the xi extreme is the same as the maximus gene and it holds the overclocking record. Not really sure why people say asus boards vrm suck when they are still breaking records lol Evga really dropped the ball on this release like usual.

z390 FTW has been out of stock everywhere for weeks. I'm almost losing patience on the mid-tier board let alone the dark. On a separate note, I'm starting to get cold feet on the FTW board because it lacks any display (even the z370 had an hdmi and DP). What if I need to troubleshoot my only GPU?

I know there was a scarce supply of the Extreme mobo. Only Extreme and Gene have good 10+2 VRM design. All the rest of the Asus lineup have lower tier twin-8 phase VRMs. GGTV-Jon Doubtful on those gimmicky memory extenders. That's not memory extenders. The amount of chips is doubled on the memory modules: https://pctechnews.ru/motherboard-news/4869/The site is in russian but the images do show the difference in size.

In your original post you didn't have any links for them. In my mind I was seeing something that went into the memory slot then 2 sticks would plug into it side by side. I swear I had seen a picture somewhere of something like that but have no idea where. Maybe it was on a server board With taller memory modules I would think regular HS / Fan combos might have issues with clearance and perhaps some water cooling setups

I swear I had seen a picture somewhere of something like that but have no idea where. Maybe it was on a server board With taller memory modules I would think regular HS / Fan combos might have issues with clearance and perhaps some water cooling setups
Yeah, the modules themselves are extended and double the capacity. I probably didn't express my idea clearly enough. For sure, they might add compatibility troubles with some cooling solutions.

The extreme and gene are actually a 5 phase vrm running in 5x2 mode. More phases doesn't mean much as it's a marketing gimmick. The Asus 5 phase can deliver up to 600 Amps to the cpu. Even the lower tier Asus boards running a 4 phase won't hinder your overclock unless you plan on doing ln2 cooling. People that have no idea about vrms assume a lower number of phases means it's bad.

In support of the above. For people that don't quite have a grasp on VRM setups here is an Buildzoid video on the topic, if this one doesn't quite fit the bill I can try and find another one One of the issues that seems to come about on some of the boards (non evga) their marketing teams are overstating what is actually on the board - they show you a picture that has a bunch of chokes on the board and say Look we have xx many chokes when in fact they are running them without doublers and it is not quite the same My recommendation to anyone looking at a particular board to look at Buildzoid's channel on YouTube or Gamers Nexus on YouTube to see if a board breakdown / review has been done on it

Almost pulled the trigger on Cyber Monday and trying out the Ryzen 2700x with an Asrock setup. But then I thought to myself, the i7 3770K and the Z77 FTW have been kicking strong for 6 years non-stop high OC. I'm gonna wait, glad I did, I love these boards, and can't wait to try these out with the new Intel chips once I get around to finally buying one. By then hopefully these will be released :).

I can tell you all this much about the dark, the extreme overclockers they have the beta boards have flat out said it isn’t ready for release and they are still working on the bios, as well as some other things, to get it ready for release.
Seeing how the board is being custom created versus mass produced, I would say that it will take time to release. Just like the Kingpin cards, it.. takes.. time.
If you want a rushed product, you are barking up the wrong tree with the Dark.
Steponz has one.
