That's a good question. We don't really know what's new or fixed in the newer Intel RAID ROMs. Supposedly, if you use the latest ROM along with the latest drivers in Windows 8, you get TRIM support in RAID. I've never seen this confirmed anywhere, though. I for one like to use the latest firmwares and drivers, but then again I don't have anything critical on my PC either. My recommendation: If you don't have any issues and don't feel the need to be on the bleeding edge of technology , don't update your BIOS.

The W3680 should work well with BIOS 77, to the best of my knowledge BIOS 77 contains all the proper microcode for that processor. I think the microcode updates found in later BIOSes are for the W36 90, the 980 (non-x) and the 990X.

Hi, I have the X58 SLI mATX. I have never updated it. I think it is on 71... So I noticed I am getting this message on bootup in admin tools log: (I get it for all processors, I just copies the one.) Performance power management features on processor 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware I am thinking I need to update but playing with the motherboard seems kinda scary. Am I interpreting the log message correctly? I tried to get more info on the error from intel's help but no luck.

Let's see if I can explain this... The Performance Power Management feature is a feature of Windows 7 and newer processors like the Core i7 that takes what would normally be power-saving features and turns them into performance features. How/Why? In Power saving mode, the cpu/operating system can shutdown individual cores to save power. Microsoft worked a lot with intel while developing Windows 7. In doing so, they found a way to utilizing the core-parking features to make the thread scheduler much more intelligent, allowing the operating system to decide which core would be the best core to run a thread on. Since some cores are only logical hyper-threaded cores, and certain cores on a CPU may share a cache together, it's now much better at figuring out which core is the best to use. So why are you getting the error above? You probably don't have the proper options setup in your BIOS. For an X58 BIOS, go to the CPU Features section under Frequency/Voltage control and enable both of these options: - Intel SpeedStep: Enabled
- CxE Function: C6
- Intel HT Technology: Enabled
By enabling those features above, the operating system will now have access to the advanced features of the processor, allowing it to make use of Performance Mode. This feature is one of the reasons people are noticing that Windows 7 seems faster than previous versions of Windows.

It has been a long time since there has been a bios update for the X58 series. Has EVGA made it public that there will not be any other updates released ? I am in the process of receiving my 2 GTX 780 SC ACX from newegg and wanted to know that if this is the best bios to use with those cards and also works really well with overclocking ? I currently have been using the S61J bios since I bought my E760 and have tryed other newer bios in the past but I always go back S61J as it works the best with my overclock settings and my cpu. I hope the GTX 780 works with the S61J bios and I do need to update the bios but I don't think that will be the case as that bios is very old and released back in 2009. I highly doubt that S61J is compatible with the UEFI bios on the GTX 780. I just wanted to know what is considered the best bios for the E760 for overclocking and that does not have any issues (bugs) and is UEFI compatible ? Thanks

You lucky guy you! I've been thinking about putting two 780 Acxs in my x58 classified as well. The only concerns I can think of is wether the 780 will get bottlenecked on the pci-e slots and dated cpu. I know they run at 16x for each slot but its 1.0 pci-e technology right? Someone might want to clarrify?
Thanks.

This series of motherboard is 3-4 generations old now and long since discontinued. They have moved on and there will be no more updates and this series will never see a UEFI bios because its physically impossible (there isn't enough memory for one on the motherboard).

Is there a limit to the driver and OROM updates that the ICH chipset for these motherboards can receive? I'm using an updated BIOS by Henry, modded with Intel's 12.6 OROM. It seems to work fine -- however -- when I went into Windows to try and update the Intel RST driver to 12.6, it just wouldn't "take". It appears that anything above 11.7 doesn't support the ICH chipset anymore...? Is this true?

EVGA_JacobF CD/DVD Installation - Recommended installation method - Download the correct .iso file below for your motherboard:
- Use a CD Burning software to burn the .iso image onto a blank CD (Nero, Alochol 120%, MagicISO etc.)
- After it has burned, insert CD and restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
- Now set the CD Drive as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select CD as the bootable device.
- After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
- Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS
Need help!!!! I was trying to fix a once daily BSOD issue so decided to update the BIOS, first time doing so. Have a 141-BL-E757-TR mb, i7, 12gb, etc... and a RAID1 setup. I first downloaded the ISO but it wasn't recognized, bootup went right past it. Some googling then brough me here, so I followed the instructions above and hit 'load defaults' in the BIOS, I've been hosed ever since. The PC won't boot up, and I still can't get the ISO to do anything, have tried multiple times on differenct cd's. Also tried booting from a flash drive, but that didn't go anywhere either and all I see in the BIOS to set for that is "removable"? Anyway, can't go back, can't go forward, and my home office work machine that I really need is hosed right now.... I have a feeling it may be related to the RAID setup, but I figured out just enough to get it up and running a few years ago, don't really know what to do with it... Any help would be much appreciated.. Dan

I've done that. I can still 'ctrl I' and get into the raid setup and the name is 'Volume0'. When I go into the BIOS and change the sata mode to RAID, go back into advanced settings and hard disk boot priority the name that shows up is 'SCSI-0 : Intel Volume0'. Not sure if thats what it said before or not....

After a couple hours at a pc place they determined they couldn't do anything with it.....drive partitions appear deleted, couldn't get them mounted. Any further efforts would be in the data recovery mode. Instead of buying a new hard drive to load and then try to recover my data I ended up with a new pc, after I (hopefully) get all my data off one of the raid drives I'll rebuild this pc for someone else. Expensive mistake.....

My SATA connections: BIOS doesn't state that i have SATA3 (6Gb), but it is clear i have 4 sets: 3 sets are black and 1 is red. Q4. SATA: My SATA 0/1 is reading as SATA 1 (system/SSD) and 5 (the other HD)....any clue?? Thanks guys for your helps.

ryulonius I bought this used rig. CPU: i7 920 @2.67 GHz RAM: 12.0GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 530MHz (7-7-7-20) MoBo: EVGA 131-GT-E767 (Socket 423) 32 °C Graphics: LG TV (1360x768@60Hz) 1280MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 (EVGA) 51 °C 1280MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 (EVGA) 40 °C ForceWare version: 320.49 SLI Disabled>>>>>Nvidia Experience disabled this for an optimal gaming...any idea if i should able it or not??? Hard Drives: 112GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB ATA Device (SSD) 33 °C 932GB SAMSUNG HD103SI ATA Device (SATA) Final Fantasy XIV is the most recent game i've downloaded which i lag a bit, VS Black Ops II works Fine. Disable for FFXIV ARR till optimized drivers are released. Don't bother installing the Nvidia Experience junk unless you do not know how to mess with in game settings to get the smoothest game play with the best possible graphics for your system. Leave it disabled for the game. I think red is just areas that don't need updating? I can't remember. Red ports are SATA III Bottom port closest to the PCB is Port 0. Although if you want close to the fastest speeds out of your drive you want that SSD in the Red SATA Port. FFXIV ARR Can be VRAM hungry using more than the 1.2GB your cards have. Just sitting at the Botanists Guild I am at 1096MB. I know other areas surpass 1.2GB, but this is also at 2560x1440. I would imagine it may still get close. If you are running out of VRAM, then you could potentially see some lag. Just to make sure though are you sure it is computer related lag or Internet Lag.

Dude or dudess?? Thanks for the reply, i saw your FF XIV face, and nice rig you got. I'm guessing it's the VRAM, if you say so about just sitting at a place in FFXIV, and getting slightly over 1GB, and i do see my GPU @99% during the game in MSI after burner. To add, I got the lowest settings kinda in the in-game settings, for example i disabled a lot of things. oh i just checked, in the after burner my gpu memory is max:638, do i need to fix this? As of the internet being the factor; i got my game ports enabled for the game, my internet speed: 50/10 down/up, should i set my regedit/ tcp algorithm?? Thnx again dude

As well as your VRAM. That is just the usage that it is reading or the highest it has read. Can't remember how it works exactly. There isn't anything under your control that messes with how much VRAM that can be used.
