Anyone try dejanh's modded bios with the Intel 11.5.0.1111 OROM?

Be nice to see if it loads, but don't really wanna flash an Alpha firmware to my Raid 1 controller

People were having mixed results with Asus boards, but they use different tools to modify their Bios files.

So since Dejanh was once again able to mod the BIOS to fit the RAID ROM will EVGA be doing the same for us?  Would be nice to get atleast one final BIOS update.  Sucks im broke and cant upgrade to the X79 my poor classy3 is only a year old :(
(well this ones only a month old since the first one crapped out on me)

This is BIOS 83... the one dejanh posted is also BIOS 83, but with the new RAID ROM added in which probably won't help the reboot issues.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 83 Released 2011/12/07 19:41:28 (permalink)
Hi Guys,

I have a quick question or two. first I have the BIOS shown below from AIDA64. Not sure exactly what the number really is, but it's the original BIOS that came with the board. Is there someplace on the EVGA site I can get a copy of this BIOS file, just in case I have a bad flash or some other problems and want to go back?

Second, I've heard a lot of ups and downs with BIOS 83, can someone tell me whether or not I should update my BIOS? Would I actually gain anything, or am I just asking for trouble?

Edit: For some reason the pic didn't show up here, if I remember correctly the BIOS string was "IX58S2W"

Thanks!

I don't see an IX58S2W- I think you're missing a letter or number.
If you have the standard X58 3-Way SLI board, you can find hvymetal86's detailed BIOS changelog with download links here:
http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1313670

If you have trouble figuring it out feel free to ask questions.

Before downloading a new BIOS, verify the part number of your motherboard matches what you're downloading!  (an example would be 132-BL-E758 The four digits E757 are the important ones when looking at the part number)

A lot of new options have been added to the BIOS, which can be confusing.  Some of the default voltages and timings have been changed as well, so you might have to spend time learning about the new options and figuring out what voltage and memory timings you need (since your old values might not work).  You can look at the BIOS changelogs and decide for yourself.  Questions about whether you should upgrade to a new BIOS would be:
  • Are you upgrading to a newer CPU?
  • Are you upgrading to RAID (or a larger RAID array)?
  • Are you upgrading to Solid State Drives?
  • Are you going to be using Virtual Machines (VMs)?

If the answer to any of those is yes, then upgrading to BIOS 82 would be my recomendation.
If the answer is no to all of them, then you probably wouldn't gain anything.

Thanks for the links and info Davabled. I'll check out the change logs and see what I can figure out. If I have any questions I'll be sure to contact you. You're probably right, I probably go tthe BIOS number wrong, as I'm at work and not in front of my computer right now. I'll verify that and post the real number. You're also correct, I do have the 132-BL-E758-A1 board. It's the 3x SLI model. Thanks again.

Where do I get that info? Just booted and besides the quick BIOS splash screen (which went by too fast), I went into BIOS and can't find the version anywhere. Do I have to boot to the BIOS update CD and (hopefully) use some info option?
Be kind

The only reason I was asking was because if you ever do run into issue using a BIOS and add-in bootable cards, you should try BIOS 77.   When first added in my revodrive x2, ver 77 was the only BIOS at the time that had enough option ROM space to use it.  I am able to use BIOS ver 83 just fine though.  But I should point out that no matter which BIOS version I use, I cannot use the Intel SATA controller in RAID mode.  There is just not enough option ROM space available to support both.

Well that scares the hell out of me, since I use the Intel controller in RAID mode.
So your saying If I flash my Intel RAID sets won't work?

No, that is not what I am saying at all, It was in response to this:

I was letting you know that you might run into an issue down the road if you start adding additional bootable cards into your system, as you are using the Intel controller in RAID already/

Remember follow instructions, Set BIOS to default before and after flash/update ...

So how long before EVGA releases a revision bios for this board? It's been along time and i sure hope it's not the end for this flagship product since the release of the Intel X79 Chipset.

Funny, you think he was talking directly to you? How often does this happen to you? (food for thought)

The BIOS provided have not been tested as I no longer have an EVGA X58 board.

What board did you get...?
I am thinking about getting a different brand board as well with the new 2011 socket and cpu's.

I decided to do some sub-zero benching so I got a Gigabyte GA-X58A-OC board.  If you are after regular BIOS updates though do not look at this board either.  I update all my own BIOS by modding.

Updates to on-board controllers, specifically Intel RAID/AHCI, Marvell RAID, JMicron, Realtek, etc.  That type of stuff.

I've been running on bios SZ2Z on my original x58 vanilla (132-BL-E758-A1). Should I be worried about flashing it straight to 83? Having viewed the changelog (great job btw), there's so many updates I've neglected. Will flashing to 83 instantly bring me up to speed and/or is that sort of flash troublesome in any way?
