Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 83 Released 2011/10/30 17:13:05 (permalink)
Then I must be doing something wrong because when I tell my pc to boot from the CD it scans it and then loads windows from my HD rather than flashing the bios.
I loaded the file on a rewritable DVD, that shouldn't mater should it?

Sorry for being a noob but I've never flashed the bios before and I'm not even sure it will solve the problem I have.  I'm trying to upgrade from windows vista 64 to windows 7 64 without doing a clean install and windows 7 is telling me to upgrade my PCI IDE Controller drivers but I can't find them out here.  I tried doing the chipset upgrade but that didn't update them.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Copying the file(s) is not enough, you need to burn the ISO file to a CD. Personally I like Roxio, some ppls use UltraISO, and I hear Windows7 now does it natively. And it may not work on a rewritable, may require a CD-R.

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

I have X58 SLI motherboard and I downloaded the CD version .  However, the ISO image is empty.  It does not contain any files.  Can someone verify the files are in the ISO image and if they are, any suggestions on why I'm not seeing them?

It's a linux iso therefore your windows won't see anything. Just burn this iso and flash. Be careful with this specific bios as it screwed my mobo up.

ok since there's no answer for my question I will rma the mobo.
p.s. I also started getting weired codes as C3 F6 AC 00 randomly.
linux users stay away from this bios. anything prior 83 version would work ok. earlier is better.

You are correct in Windows 7 I had to use a DVD-R iso burn using UltraISO to make it work.

Same here as several others, Sometimes on boot it displays incorrect achi rom in bios, no keyboard detected, unplug usb plug em back in and it fixes the issue sorta. Then at times when you do get it to boot fine, windows will run fine for awhile the ping one the cores on the processor, basically locking up the machine from working properly, your programs you have open will continue to work, but you can't open or close anything or you will have to hit the reset button.

Try increasing ICH to 1.2V.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 83 Released 2011/11/05 14:33:37 (permalink)
flashed to 83 last night.

went from 4 active cores 8 threads to 2 cores 2 threads.

contacted evga and we tried flashing to 82. nope. back to 64 still nothing. clearing the cmos, pulling the battery, even tried
reseating the cpu nothing fixed it.

the only thing that seems to make it work is if I cut my cpu clock in 1/2 then boot up.  it will register all 4 cores and threads. Then to get my speed back i have to slowly increase the cpu back to normal.

not sure what happened here so to be better safe than sorry I submitted an rma since either or both the cpu and mb are not long for this world. Im also going to go ahead and pick up a new i7 960 from microcenter.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 83 Released 2011/11/10 08:40:35 (permalink)
after finishing my build and trying to boot my system i immediatly get FF code.

i have E759 mobo this i have bought recently brand new i know it's realy rare so i tought that the bios have to be updated because of my build it's not easy to change the cpu so i bought a bios chip on ebay with the newest bios that's what the seller asume.

Specs:

CPU: Intel W3680 6 core
MB: eVGA Classified X58 E-759
RAM: Corsair Dominator GT 2000Mhz 12GB
GPU: 2x eVGA GTX 590 Classified Hydro Copper
PSU: Corsair AX1200
SSD: OCZ REVO Drive X2 240 GB
HDD: 4x 2TB

do i have to do hard mod like the next link  on my mobo to let it work with my W3680 ?? or does bios 83 support this cpu and that the problem is something else?

and is it possible that evga provide me a chip with the newest bios (83) so that i know for sure it's not bios issue

see next thread of my

Some guys were discussing the new OROM in another thread and I was bored so I did these quickly for all boards, based on official BIOS 83 modded with the latest RAID OROM 11.5.0.1111.

Download the whole package here - http://www.mediafire.com/?n547f9762dyjot9

The BIOS provided have not been tested as I no longer have an EVGA X58 board. No errors occurred while creating them so they should all work. Before flashing please make sure that you know how to recover from a bad flash. Please use these at your own risk. Using modded BIOS will most likely void your warranty if you need to send the board in for an RMA with the modded BIOS still flashed to the board.

I don't know about rage, more like flop.  Bulldozer and SB-E X79 release have both been failures in principle.  The gains of X79 over Z68 are minimal to none, and in some instances the X79 platform performs worse.  I am most likely staying away from X79 as my main platform until Ivy Bridge, but we'll see I guess...

Hmm, seems a lot of folks are having trouble with 83, oddly enough it has worked just fine for me, not even a hiccup with my RevodriveX2.  Nice to have been able to update from 77.
