Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 74 Released

jgmcnutt Wow, what the heck is the deal with this bios? I haven't done any overclocking yet, everything stock and as a result all of my voltages were on auto. That was fine. I was running 133x21 for 2.8 on my 930 and auto was placing the voltage at 1.129v. I was totally fine with that. Now, with this new bios, auto is placing the voltage at 1.270, ****? Not only that, but now the 21 multiplier doesn't even work. If I choose 21, the target frequency shows as 2933, 22x133. If I go one step down, to 20, the target frequency is 2666, 20x133. I decided to boot up and see if my selection of 21 or the bios' interpretation would take priority, open up CPU-Z, sure enough, it's running 133x22 for 2933, at 1.270v. I'm really wishing there was a rollback feature right now, although I am intrigued by the fact that a broken bios can unlock your CPU multi... lol. BTW, this is on a vanilla X58 SLI. Question, I just got the X58 SLI 758 and at first the BIOS set the CPU to 2.6 but when I patched to the latest BIOS it not sits at 2.9 constantly with 133X22 but it is set at 21. TurboCore is enabled, but is it supposed to be constant like that? My CPU voltage is 1.26. I haven't tried modifying any settings, I just want to make sure I'm not having this same problem.

RonSMeyer mellowfluff mellowfluff Is the VT double pump affecting all X58 motherboards from eVGA or just the Classified? I'm looking to get the X58 Micro motherboard and I'd really hate to have to deal with this. Thanks. Does anyone know? I don't want to screw up my hard drives due to the double pump. The 758 does for sure. Don't know about the micro's but I would assume so. I've only seen a Double Pump when I cut all power to the mobo, and it is usually once. I did get it a few times when I first started my mobo, but I did modify the BIOS settings a bit. What's the big deal about "double pumping" anyways? I do have virturalization disabled.

I hope the next updated bios release will focus on other issues besides the Intel 980x. I'm still standing after all this time LOL! To be honest I had less problems with Asus then I ever did with using EVGA motherboards in my entire life. I found Asus to run more stable then EVGA from when I used the 790i Ultra chipset. I get more system hangs using this MB. Countless black screens and hard lockups in Quad SLI then I can count using an EVGA x58 motherboard compared to my aging NVIDIA 790i. I'm just being honest, Sometimes switching doesn't mean it's always going to be better. At least for me I can move on to another x58 motherboard and still use the same CPU and memory. The board isn't all that to say the least.

can i flash this bios backwards? this new bios gives me nothing but problems. it worked perfectly until i flashed this bios to 74. it gives me issues overclocked and at stock settings. i have VT disabled and it still double starts. sometimes will stop just before detecting drives and freeze or sometimes will post my drives then hang up. if i power down and start back up it posts correctly. today it gave me post code 68 and stuck there had to clear cmos to get it to post. all my hard drives tested ok as well as the memory. i-7 920 co hyper 212+ u2-ufo case 6gb corsair 1600 750w ps evga x58 sli ocz vertex ssd 1 tb 2 x 500gb 250gb dvd-rw thx in advance for any help

I just flashed to 74, up from 44. Question, the EVGA boot screen is gone, including the option for enable/disable it in the BIOS. Did a search, and found the posts of versions back to 49, but no mention of the startup logo being removed. Is this normal?

I noticed a glitch with the CPU VCore setting. My specs are below, and I'm using BIOS 74. It happens in version 73 as well. When I set the VCore to 1.28125V in the BIOS, my actual voltage becomes 1.33V in the BIOS and in Windows. The VCore displays the correct voltage when setting 1.27500V or 1.28750V.

I reflashed 3 times to the bios#74 seems to be working pretty good so far now, I think key is making sure to reset the Bios to default settings before flashing each time.. Only thing I see is that when I set the Dram volts to 1.65 in bios it reads 1.73 in EVGAS Eleet, so to be on the safe side I went back in bios and set it to 1.59 volts and it now reads 1.66 in bios and under load it drops to 1.64 ..

What's the big deal about "double pumping" anyways? I do have virturalization disabled. A lot of us DO have virtualization enabled because we need it and use it on our systems. I have applications for my job that depend on it. The "big deal" is that automatically killing power and forcing it back on within two seconds is dangerously hard on the system. It can cause premature and sudden failure of the hard drives and other systems when they are not given sufficient down time to completely power off and shut down. When you power off the system you should always wait 15 to 30 seconds before turning it back on.

Yes, you should always load the defaults in the BIOS before flashing. I, too, have to set my DRAM Voltage to 1.60V in the BIOS to achieve an effective 1.65V. This has been true with every BIOS version I've used on my board.

Along with the VT double pump on restart issue for me there's the issue of the bios forcing turbo to be enabled on the 980X if you try to use above 25X multi on the cpu. If the update to the motherboard fixes the VT issue like the 758 to 759 update fixed the S3 issue I'm going to be pissed. Evga could start making ATI video cards and I might forgive them ;)

DarkOneZ13 This has reach the point of being absurd! All I see is updates for the $1000 980x! How about the rest of us 90%? Some fixes for the major problems plaguing this board, maybe? I used to respect EVGA but seeing as we can't even get any feedback or an admition to there being a problem with the way VT was implemented on this board, I definitely do not anymore. I',m pretty sure someone will have some lamo response to turn of VT, so here is a preemptive reply to them, I cannot, as I use the feature all the time. I am in the market for a new Video Card but seeing as I have just lost yet another Hard Drive due to this VT Bug which by the way no other x58 chipset motherboard has. This will definitely be the last Product I buy from EVGA Period! I will also be telling everyone I know not to purchase anything from this company! This damned bug has now cost me almost $300. I am mad as hell. Amen man..I don't know what EVGA is thinking, not many people with the 980X even go for the budget mobo SLI LE when they can afford a $1000 processor. I have had the same problem as you, and so has other people that own the SLI LE from EVGA. If XFX wasn't racist towards NVIDIA and Intel I would go with them all the way.

Their design is specific. Don't try making them do something their not design for.

To Firerx What are you talking about I had no problem updating Bios and I knowvery well how to update bios , heck a 4 year old could do it. All I said was It was junk for me when it came to making Vantage runs so I reflashed back a couple times to the newer 74 bios and it now has made improvements in my vantage scores and I thought that reseting back to defaults a few times in bios was key for me which setting back to defaults in bios before flashing is a standard thing and a must if PPL read ..

Its been a long time since I updated my bios so I gave this one a try.My previous bios was 59.All went well,I burned using ISO method .I took a huge loss in memory performance with this one so I flashed back to 59.I also tried 64 and have same issue of lower memory performance.Did something change after 59 on the memory timings or settings that I need to do differently to have good memory performance on E759?

HalloweenWeed (oops, hit wrong button) What I said is correct, I use it to run Fedora in Sun Microsystem's VirtualBox under Windows 7. My S3 has always worked ok. I get the double pump with VT. I bought an Asus board this time as I can't deal with all the bios-churn on these EVGA boards.

I just purchased the E-758-A1 in August, and I'm a little annoyed with the double boot feature myself, and I've been reading about virtualization technology and I wanted to try it out. :( The thing I'm most annoyed about this double boot thing is the fact that it happens not only with VT, but when whenever I unplug my motherboard it will do it. This may not be an issue for everyone, but the annoying blue light indicating power is getting to the motherboard is BRIGHT and shines through my case and into my room where I sleep. So my only option is unplugging it to reduce the light pollution. I almost wish I could return this thing in light of this issue and get an MSI Big-Bang or something. MSI has provided so many good products lately to me; the only reason I went with EVGA is the warranty and price. Not sure it was worth it at this point with these little issues on a board that's over 2 years old in production. C'mon EVGA, this will be my first and last product with you if you don't fix the double boot. PS: And this isn't bringing up the issue of the Northbridge and VREG ridiculous temperatures and terribly designed heat-sinks; hindsight is 20/20. Does anyone know if this double boot feature is happening on their new SLI3 board? I might be inclined to do the "upgrade" as it's been less than 90 days.

Do you want to switch an EVGA motherboard for an MSI one? Wow!. I've had lot's of motherboards, including ASUS, MSI, ECS etc, and the best and less problematic motherboard I've had has been my current E760, I'll be buying this brand till I have a reason not to do it anymore (and I buy them from Uruguay). I thinks it's an incredible mobo, and the ONLY problem I've seen on bios releases has been the difference in vcore for stability on my 24/7 setups.... So far I think the best bios releases for 920's are 44, and 74... Regards...
