HC and hybrid cards went up without warning and POOF instantly.
Don't remind me.
Hey remember that time EVGA announced HC cards via a social media post and didn't tell its most avid fans on its own website that they had been watching for months? I 'member.
Oh yea, I know your point wasn't to praise but I guess I forgot that they posted on Twitter during the release. Would've been nice if they had even considered their fans here.
Yeah I was just making a "don't remind me" joke. :) I don't consider a twitter post an announcement.

Agreed, it'd be nice if they had a thought for the cheerful folks actively talking about it in their own forurms....

Anandtech had an interesting review of the Apple M1 chip. It will be interesting to see how Apple leverages the big-little design paradigm.the chips top out at 28w. Imagine a part with 10x as many cores using 280w. AMD watch out. And I think they have a breakthrough on tap for gpu design as well. Although many PC games dont work on Arm, Apple has Rosetta2 which is amazing in its ability to run x86 code, although again, games would need to be recompiled with XCode with Apple optimizations. I wonder how all the people paying>1K for video cards will feel in a year when the paradigm shift hits.

Pretty sure they will feel fine because they have the hardware in hand (thus being able to use it now), vs the "next big thing" that is always around the corner.

Welcome to the new normal. This is how business is done in greed ravaged countries in Asia and the Middle East. EVERYTHING is a negotiation. The Amazon/Ebay marketplace is just the software incarnation of it. It is not the American way of business that we knew. I guess all companies do it. Remember MSI was caught scalping its products directly through a third party. Certainly they are still doing it, only more carefully. And do you think other companies would leave these dollars to private intermediaries? They are not stupid. In the competitive world, EVERYONE has to keep up, EVGA is no different. How they managed to get the 3090s to the scalpers is anyone's guess. The only way to know is to directly contact one of the scalpers and start with a social engineering hack. Talk to them about the price, negotiate, and by the way find where and who they are.

My guess: they don't really care. Why should they and even if they did, any policies are impossible to police / enforce. So I'd wager they will condemn such behaviour towards the community and just shrug it off internally. Not to say that I think it's bad, just understandable for a company. At some point you have to take unreasonable measures to protect against ingenous individuals / companies with special expertise on how to circumvent anti-bot protections (if any). Just for exemaple, I mean, it would be ridiculously easy for a scalper to become an elite member... and we would continue to buy EVGA (or any other brand) since we want the product, eh? Geez, that sounds like an addict... ;)

So what's the over-under...when are we going to see the "auto-notify" button for the KNGPN? I am guessing Thursday.

I will guess tomorrow. AMDs GPUs will go on sale tomorrow. From rumor thus far, these cards will offer a more efficient hash rate than the 30 series; giving a much better ROI than a premium card like the kingpin. It would be a good opportunity for EVGA to get the kingpins in the hands of those who want to actually use them. Hopefully the scalpers and fair weather fans will flock to the 6800/6800XT launch, and EVGA will seize this opportunity.

I bet these are the 'discards' from people buying several and keeping the best silicon. Too bad the warranty wont transfer. So not only do you get shafted by paying more to a scalper. EVGA will tell you that you are SOL if there are problems. Solves their customer service headache as well.

I believe the standard warranty transfers with the card. The enhanced warranties, unless there has been a recent change to policy, do not.

This might sound extreme, but for a card as limited and expensive as the kingpin i would be willing to: 1. sign a waiver that says if i resell in first 6 months, void all warranty 2. provide photo id No scalpers are going to do the 2nd thing i listed, i dont even think its that ethical.
