Literally what do you think the point of the ftw3 ultra is?

Why do you think they added an extra power port?

It’s meant to provide more power draw so that the card can be overclocked further. The biggest limit when overclocking is available power and cooling.

You see this is an overclock thread. So if you don’t understand how oc’ing works and you don’t plan to learn then maybe you should find another thread to talk about your card and questions.

The memory clock is something that can be changed easily in the precision app so if you’re spending an additional $250 for that, that’s insane lol. Like wow I can’t even begin.

It is because of poor pcb design and evga dropping the ball this generation that essentially has screwed all ftw3 ultra owners. We bought this card for the additional power and the opportunity to overclock further.

Anyone forking out $1500-$2000 for a 3090 is not going to be in the least concerned over $200, and if you are then you could not afford to buy that card in the first place.  I for one (and I suspect there are others) would gladly pay the FTW3 price (and did) just for the opportunity which EVGA provided to even be able to purchase the card via the Auto Notify system...and not be subject to having to buy it on Ebay at scalper prices, and wonder what mystery surprise may show up at your door.

Also realize that this forum has a handful of actual owners on it.  Not everyone wants to tinker and tune their cards.  The card does what it says, at the speeds it advertised it will do.  The solution is simple, if you don't like your card sell it.  There are plenty of buyers out there still, and I am sure you can easily get your money back.  Then, take your chances in line finding another brand's card or pay the scalper pricing to get one quickly.

Thank you though for registering just to complain about something that has been commented on the first 115 pages beforehand.    And yes, I am happy with my card's performance.  Maybe in reality I am only getting 200fps instead of 208fps. Oh well.

My card literally did not do what it says as evidenced by the quick RMA of a defective card.  The problem is the card is defective in a way the average user will not identify and if left alone may cause other components damage in the long term.  That defect also happens to lower performance in a way which is hard to recognize without specific software.  The anger is from EVGA not recognizing this issue which is easily reproducible in those affected cards.  Some think the XOC bios not coming out of beta is indicative of internal acknowledgement of these inherent issues in early cards without saying anything on this or other platforms.

Prove it.  Prove that it is performing below advertised specs.  If it is, you have a legitimate RMA, if not and it is performing beyond the limits in which you "think" it should, then you have zero case.

And yes, I know there are always going to be those cases when something does not perform as it should, I am saying on the whole.  Hence the reason for a warranty.  My BMW while more expensive than my Caddy has had far numerous trips to the dealer for recalls and warranty issues.  But that's why you have a warranty.

I already did with EVGA support via their ticketing system confirmed by the approval of the RMA. Conversely, prove your card is functioning perfectly. I'll wait :)

Please remember this BIOS is a BETA and the intention is to collect feedback, and hardware will vary. On my test system below is the result with a production card, can anyone else testing post a similar screenshot? This is Doom Eternal 4K, only power target is maxed out and no other changes in PX. Ignore the blown out screenshot its because HDR is enabled

Just wanted to add these, don't have doom but cyberpunk 2077 with everything maxed out should do too. Nothing overclocked only powerlimit set to 119%. Temps sitting at 60 - 65 °C, Clock peaks at 1950 MHz, max board power draw around 395W.

Re: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 XOC BIOS BETA 2021/01/08 01:51:35 (permalink)
Okay so obviously you haven’t read but ONCE AGAIN this thread is for extreme overclocking the 3090 cards. So if you aren’t here for that then leave? There are other threads to discuss your 3090 performance. This is specific to extreme overclocking. Read that again if you’re confused.

And that’s very nice that it’s easy for you to shell out $2000 like it’s pocket change. I worked very hard for every bit of my 9k rig so I do care that I’m getting the absolute bang for my buck. I would imagine most people who work hard for their money do care that they are getting the product they pay for. If not then you’re probably a sucker lol.

In terms of the ftw3 ultra it is important to most, as you can see very easily on this thread and the precious 115 pages as you stated, that shelling out the extra $300 resulted in the potential for pushing the limit with our cards. See while you’re comfortable just plugging it in and playing Fortnite on your stock graphics card settings, most of us on this thread are interested in pushing the graphics card to its absolute peak performance. Because we want to overclock. Not run it stock. If that’s the case for you, you should’ve got a cheaper card. And this isn’t a difference of 8 FPS as you so aptly put. This is a difference of at least 80-100 FPS or more, so again if you don’t understand overclocking then you shouldn’t be on this thread about overclocking lol. And if you are happy with running your 3090 stock then that’s cool too.

I use my workstation to color and edit massive files primarily and game on the side. When you’re editing 8k red raw files or coloring 6k Alexa footage you need the absolute best to have smooth playback and stability. I also enjoy overclocking in general because I’ve been at this for 10 years or so that’s another reason I ordered the ultra.

I’ve been loyal to evga for a long time because forever they’ve been worth every penny when it comes to their products and how they approach design from the ground up. They know what their customers want and they’ve always delivered, especially with graphics cards when it comes to overclock ability. I mean kingpin for crying out loud lol. And obviously this is still relevant because tons of people are asking why they can’t achieve over 440 watts with the 500 watt overclock bios. They are wondering what the issue is and hoping it’s the beta design just not working properly. So they’re coming to this forum to discuss which in turn should relate to devs updating the kinks in the software. Except this time it’s a hardware issue unfortunately.

So yes I am disappointed that they are dropping the ball so badly with this card and I have a right to be. I ordered this card 5 months ago solely because of the overclock ability. This is on par with MSI’s crazy issues the past few years. You could get the same frames with the standard FE edition or a freaking Ventus so I’m really perplexed why you shelled out $350 more dollars lol. I understand scalpers and feel for you there but Best Buy is still selling 3090s the same way they are selling Xbox’s and ps5’s so you could’ve got one there possibly. I do think the que system is very smart from evga but I don’t think that justifies a flaw in pcb design? Next time don’t wait til the last minute I guess lol. So please don’t go total fanboy champion defender mode when people have a legitimate reason to ask why and voice their frustrations about a massive mishap.

Are EVGA looking into this or do they not consider this an issue?

Yeah.. would be nice for everyone's sake I think. It's weird that the XC3 (a 2 PCIE power connector) bios allows the card to pull more power than the actual 3 pin XOC bios.

I have the ASUS ROG Thor 1200W PSU and it has a built in wattmeter in the side, as well as having one in the wall. XC3 bios seems to allow the card to draw about 50 more watts which would make it ~500w. With that in mind I'm hoping it's just a bios fix that they need to roll out. It's weird that the first card I had that died (2014 serial) to the red light issues took the 500w bios no problem but this new one (china 2012) really doesn't seem to like to exceed 100% PT and if it does it's only for a brief second before it comes flying back to about 420w.

I'm guessing that it is an issue with the earlier cards. Mine arrived yesterday, installed 500w bios right away, and it hits nearly 500W just running regular Timespy. Maxes out at 502w according to GPUz while gaming.

I don't think the card I got was an early one as it has the black lips. Does it sustain around 500 or does it peak and then fall to low 400s and then repeat this process over and over?

I follow frame chasers too and at the moment i'm very doubtful about getting an ftw3 ultra or not. I'm scared about the possibility to get power limited even shunting the card since the auto power balancing it has; i also know that you have to be really careful about not heavy shunting the pcie connector (like you could have done on an Asus card for example) beacause at stock i already reaches 80-85w so it's really easy to go past over the 120w blowing up the 10A fuse. As a matter of fact i'm looking for some advice by the owners of this GPU, who has shunted It, about the best possibile setup to run under watercooling

Ok I did some quick testing. It definitely does not stay at 500w, but it doesn't seem to "bounce" either. Seems to drift between 460 and 492 in Timespy depending on how demanding the scene is.

From what I’ve read, I wouldn’t trust those readings. A lot of people on here were talking about how they were supposably drawing 500 but in reality it was like 460 when they measured it from the wall or psu.

Yeah it should be able to sustain it easily. Theoretically when the KP bios is available we should be able to hit 550-600 on this card easily.

You think that the Kingpin BIOS will work on this card? Isn't the PCB and vastly different? That would be awesome if it worked.

People running the KPE XOC bios on a ton of different 3090's. PCB design is still the same as the rest of the reference cards.

No it’s not available. But people in the past have been able to run kingpin bios on their cards. It should be the same with the 3090 series cards when it drops. Unfortunately the ultra won’t be able to do anything unless they resolve the issue.

Wait so the Kingpin XOC bios is already available to run on the 3090 FTW3? Weird that I haven't heard one person talking about this. I have only heard about people running XC3 3090 bios on their FTW3.

BIOS was uploaded some time ago now.

People don't post about it on here though. Mostly on Overclock.net

Wow thank you!! 1000w limit that is awesome. Are their any reports of it working on a FTW3?

Does anyone know if this is already setup for use on Hybrids? (I would presume with KP being under water already)

By that I mean would I need to change "fan" settings?
