lobstar Next up we get super pissed off that AMD puts the same chiplets in the entire product line lol.
You aren't understanding. Let's take the example you just gave. My 5900x has a defect that keeps it from being a 5950x which makes it lower binned chiplets. I paid much less for my 5900x because of this. The same hold true with GPU chips.
Not all the time. Just look at all the AMD GPUs that can successfully be flashed to the next higher tier. Sometimes the the chips are renamed due to the numbers available with a more mature chip production.
When he RMA's his 5900x he doesn't get back 5850x and he is told it the same because it's not.

So now we're making up products that don't exist to make the example work? I'm done arguing with kids on the internet today lol.

Well that's why i don't like the 3900x or 5900x. Its two 8 core chiplets that have 2 cores disabled on each chiplet, stuck together right? That's why I'd prefer the 5800x or jump to a 5950x. But I know this is not relevant in comparison to our 3090 situation here..

Well I made a new voltage curve that brings it down a bit, brought the core to 125, mem to 500 and I actually got the best score I have gotten in PR 14443 on the first go. Maybe I was jumping to conclusions about this chip after all. I'll keep playing around with it and see what I can do

I feel ya. I never can get above 460W but i am breaking 15.5k every run (with BAR). 190/1000 have been my best offsets so far. This new RMA card is legit imo.

This stuff is all great to hear. I haven’t gotten a chance to mess with the voltage curve, but I will be soon. I haven’t been using Afterburner since getting the EVGA card, but sounds like I should be. I’m already getting around 14,600 in PR with the hybrid cooler and PX1 (+100 core +1000 mem), but would love to get in the 15k range.

It's all well and good with these scores, but which version of the gpu do you have The GA102-300 or GA102-250?

I'm still rocking my original red lip beauty using the 1k bios on optimus block. And yes she's sucks up a mighty 650 watts and spikes 100 watts on the slot!!! And guess what, nothing has happened other than maxed out graphic gaming!!! And all the while I have been saying and will repeat it once a gain.... ITS A HEAT PROBLEM!!!!! the pads and paste jod was crap. At the very least replace them with fuji and repaste and stop wasting your time on RMA's.

The pads I am using came with the optimus block. Just by the thickest and use that. The fuji is soft enough to squeeze out the excess. Who care if it does that it's not conducting. People trying to cheap out trying to get thinner pads to save money on a card that cost 2k retail. Penny wise pound foolish.

I understand why people are so mad about the 250 chip, I really do and I'm in the same boat myself. You know, if you have bought a cheap Gigabyte 3090 with falling apart PCIE power pins and crappy cooler - OK, it's a lower end card, the pins can be replaced as a whole (GB has an extension for power connectors) and you get what you've paid for. But here we have one of the beefiest, most expensive variants and obviously the card has some kind of a design flaw because of the PCI-E power draw and not being able to use the available power limit. If this has been a SW/FW issue, it would've been long fixed by now. It's either the VRM controller, PCB trace design (or both) which in the future may cause even bigger problems like the controller or the card itself breaking down - I mean who knows, maybe they will all go 'pop' in 6 months because of this? Maybe after a year? It damages the trust in brand as a whole. Why can all other manufacturers release cards without major flaws that are cheaper and work just fine and now it really feels like it's almost always EVGA that try so hard to make a TOTL product and fail, except for the KP's. Guys, truly - it's unthinkable you made this design and no one from the team has noticed that there is something wrong with it, it's obvious. GPU-Z is the basic stuff. You can't make a 3x8Pin card that is still overloading the PCI-E slot. In fact you shouldn't even need any power from the PCI-E slot in the first place. Honestly, so far the only EVGA card I had that ran well was the Kingpin 2080Ti. All others had severe issues - 980Ti SC known for VRM's burning out, 1070/1080 ACX thermalpad-gate and the MB Z390 Dark dropping memory slots, X299 memory VRM exploded on boot with no OC. I feel like having stockholm syndrome for still getting EVGA products, somehow I still like the brand, it gives me the DFI Lanparty vibe from years ago. Still, I bought the FTW3 Ultra simply because I had no other choice in the current GPU shortage...

Hello all, I feel the urge to coment on that. As I can understand frustration - I have also a card with the typical symptoms, 420 Watt max, PCIe always around 80+ while playing games. I still think things get over dramatised. Cards are sell with boost clocks of 1800Mhz - anything beyond that is OC and personal luck. True although is that hitting PCIe over 80+ even without any OC is not okay. Also the card was advertised with 450Watt - the 500 were a bonus later on. But cards even not hitting reliable 450Watt are also not ok. But faults and problems do also occur with other manufacturers. I will never buy again from MSI. And also gigabyte did let me down. On the other hand my 12G-P4-2999-KR EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN X Hydro Copper and even a 512-P3-E871-AR evga e-GeForce 9800GTX 512MB are working until today! And the Titan hydro copper was driven badly, with a regular consumption of up to 480watts! It survived 5 years with this kind of loads far beyond any specs! So yes, eVGA do have very good products! And I'm looking forward, hope with the rma program issues will be fixed, and if not I'm sure eVGA will remain solving the problems!

You are absolutely right bepzinki... but despite their obvious error in the material design of the product, they still do not want to acknowledge it and are still looking for subterfuges to clear themselves. Here is an official response I received from them: "We cannot say what the original purpose of the GA102-250 is or was, as it may be a product that has not been released or announced officially. You can contact Nvidia to find out what the original purpose of the 250 is/was." OK so we use a gpu that we don't know what it corresponds to but as nvidia tells us it's a 3090 and well we go with it! If you're not happy, well, it's the same, go complain to nvidia. Really? And to think that I bought an evga for the first time after a friend told me about the quality of their after sales service... no comment

I agree with you in my case stock no XOC 500W bios the PCI-E slot was drawing close to 80 Watts I called Tech support was told its within margin. RMA time 3900OC@evga.com cost me $210 dollars $138 to ship the card back for there mistake and $71 for next day service on the replacement. I received the card and PCI-E power draw is OK but I have that original GPU was suppose to be GA-102-250 and it's upgraded to GA-102-300 chip a $1800 video card with a line going thru it the GPU tin and NVidia upgrade it 300 chip NVidia couldn't even replace the tin. Same boat as you GPU storage I purchased the best and at the end of day I shouldn't have sold my RTX-2080 Ti it worked fine and it wasn't EVGA product and as always Tech support at EVGA call NVIDIA for more info. I spent more time posting in the forums and shipping the card back then using it I'm tired of all the nonsense.

In my case it did that (80W PCI-E) at normal BIOS aswell and always, no matter the load it was 'pwr' limited with the clock dropping below 1900MHz, making any OC impossible. Lesson learned to never buy B-stock cards too. They are always returned for a reason.

If you don't want to rma your card just install the xc3 BIOS and call it a day.i can get 2130 stable. I think EVGA needs to look at their bios to get them fixed. There's no reason why we can't get full potential out of the cards when you install the xc3 BIOS it all works. Yes I know it's a two-pin bios .before I could only get 14200 in pr now I get 15200 just by install ba different bios.

I flashed the XC3 w/rebar air version for testing but my computer didn't like it (shut downs), so I'm on the FTW3 Ultra Hybrid VBIOS now and getting 80W PCIE power draw and 1950MHz clockspeed with or without a +100MHz offset. I did save the VBIOS if you want to test it for yourself: https://ufile.io/rgbw6a46

Hey there, I have been reading this this post and saw Jacob post an email for a special RMA but wanted to know what you guys who took him up on this considered before RMAing? I have the 500W Bios loaded but have never been able to hit 500 or anywhere close, also unlike a lot of other ppl here my 8-Pin #3 is much higher wattage than 8-Pin #1 & #2, PCIe Slot power seems to hover right around 78w. Would you guys RMA this? do you guys see any issues with this screenshot? I appreciate anyones who spend their time to take a look.

Thanks for testing. Hate to see it doesn't do the trick though. I'm still not sure if I want to go through the RMA process...
