All this arguing between customers is pointless. The real problem is EVGA has seemingly lied in this forum post and through twitter and other social media such as youtube about the 3090 FTW3's ability to use 500W with this XOC bios. At best this is negligence, at worse this is blatant false advertising especially because some users explicitly made purchasing decisions based upon this information given by EVGA. EVGA will find themselves in legal hot water soon if either scenario is true because publicizing false information about your product is very illegal. All someone like Jacob or someone on the BIOS dev team has to confirm is either A) This is a hardware issue, abandon hope of a SW fix or B) This is a bug and a SW fix is imminent. It really is that simple.

No... there is no chance at false advertising "legal hot water".  It hits what it is advertised at on the stock bios.  There is absolutely nothing illegal.  Sorry, no kicking and screaming will change that.

here is the labeling on this bios

"We have a new BETA BIOS that increases the maximum Power Target. This BIOS is only intended for the extreme overclocking user and does not have any other changes. Please note the following:
  • This update will increase the power consumption while overclocking, and is recommended you have adequate cooling and power (850w+ Gold minimum) when using this.
  • EVGA does not guarantee any performance increase or overclock while using this BIOS update."

No where does it guarantee you a power amount.  It flat out says it doesn't guarantee any performance or overclock increase.  The power TARGET does change to 119%.  Does not mean it hits that power.

They have stated they are looking into it.  If they are still looking into it then they can't post whether its a hardware or software problem ... because they don't know yet.  It's really that simple.  Your card is operating as advertised. If you are impatient, then return it and buy from another company.

Hi, I don't think people truly want to hate on EVGA or their marketing... they are just putting a high quality standard on EVGA's products because they are used to EVGA being a leader. In their shortcomings(on the ultra high end power user side) that praise quickly turns into what we're seeing right now. All we can do at the moment(for ultra high end consumers) is to wait patiently for a solution. If a solution isn't present and you decide to keep the card it will affect EVGA's reputation (among ultra high end users). I think they know what's at stake here and are working very hard to please people. For the frustrated high end users, this is the price we pay for early adopting, if you're looking for the best performance possible it's always best to wait and let other people figure it out for you.

Agreed.  To your point though... there is a CANYON of a gap between "EVGA not living up to their ultra high quality standards" and "Legal hot water for false advertising".  My point is yes, if they just sweep it under the rug that this bios seems to work better on other companies cards than their own .. then it might a knock off their reputation.  That said .. they still provided one .. I'd still hold them up at a higher reputation than the other companies that provided no support at all (and no extra bios).  At no point have they approached false advertising though.

Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error when trying to install this bios version? I have a 3090 FTW3 ULTRA and made sure everything was closed and running as admin.

Any updates on this from the EVGA team? I can't seem to get this to work.

Make sure you've unzipped the folder before trying to flash.  Similarly, try to reinstall drivers if that continues.  Turn off any monitoring software or programs like PX1 and MSI Afterburner.  Lastly, try to do a hard power-off (turn off system, turn off PSU, wait about 10 minutes, then try again).  See if those help.

I agree with what you said, I think EVGA does a great job on the software side of things, but some hardware issues aren't patchable(or at least not by me my electrical engineering skills suck :) ). This is causing a lot of panic and anxiety considering how much money we paid... 6900XT reveal... 2020... I wish we could take it easy and not make this thread a hostile environment... Let's give them constructive feedback and what we're experiencing with the beta bios so they can fix the issues.

LOL,  No chance in Hell this will ever happen.  There is no case.  The product does what it was advertised to do.  Just look at how difficult it is to get one of these started with a company and a product that truly has merit for a case.  All this kind of talk does is make people roll their eyes.

The very last thing EVGA is going to do is throw out a BIOS that has any way of over volting/watting someones card where there is going to be a slew of RMA's and company expense because of it.

As it's been said numerous times, let them get it worked out where they feel they have a SAFE solution to the problem.  Not really that hard to understand.

Agree on the hardware.  Either way .. I got what was advertised and was paid for.  If they manage to make it outperform that .. then that's just a bonus.  I won't hold it against them.

the problem is this: "This update will increase the power consumption while overclocking"
for most of us, myself included, this is not the case. The update actually reduces power consumption and performance. Also, now my fans won't sync no matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall PX1 and switch between the BIOS at the beginning of this thread. No combo of custom fan curve, auto, synced helps, fan 3 spins at ~+20% faster than fans 1 and 2. Some combo of these BIOS and PX1 updates has completely broken my card and going back to 'stock' bios Jacob posted at beginning of this thread doesn't fix. Those arent the same BIOS shipped with my card. @EVGATech_LeeM - does this qualify for an RMA, and how do I proceed?

If you buyed a +1500$ GPU just because there is a BETA bios for 500W Power Target which may help for better performance in real life; than  thats (sorry) but your 1st world problem alone...!

Don't ask users that, ask EVGA tech support directly: https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Also, I've seen reports of fans not being the proper % with the brand new driver released today. Folks have stated that moving back to the last driver revision fixed it, but that it's definitely a new driver issue with PX1.

Listen it's not THAT big of a deal and I'm not gona start talking legal and illegal. I think ppl are upset (myself included) with the way that they have been acting in regards to this entire thing.

How could you not know that the 3080 shipped with a 400w bios? It literally says in every piece of software FOR EVERY SINGLE 3080 very clearly that its 400watts. Dont sit there and be like, "what thats funny..on our test benches our 3080s are getting 420watts..all good over here"
like what?
and then you do the same thing with the 3090 bios. "oh we are getting 500w over here, everyone go and check your peak watts that you can achieve" to try and trick ppl into thinking the bios is working  even though we already know the cards can peak at +30 over stock bios for a few seconds. This is with all cards out there.

Thats not the same as a steady 500w and the fact that it works on other cards adds salt. Then I talk to a very good hardware engineer who tells me this card is locked at 450w... what am i supposed to think?

At best, they've been acting SHADY
The silence from EVGA has been telling

If they come out and say, "hey we are sorry it isnt working the way we thought it would and will be difficult to increase power on these cards"
okay well then we will accept it and shut up. But when you act in a way that comes off as deceitful, well; you lose trust.
Before this i was an Evga fanboy. I would see the other cards and say okay well wait for the FTW3 monster! That will no longer be the case going forward. Not just me but many ppl are put off from Evga now I've seen the frustration on other boards

They already responded and said they are looking into it.  Not exactly sure what you mean by "acting in a way that comes off as deceitful".  Just because they haven't come out and said the exact words you are hoping to hear doesn't mean they have handled this poorly.  They literally said they are looking into it.

This is my last day to return my card, day 14 of 14. Going to end up keeping it for now. Disappointed that EVGA has not yet clarified what is going on, whether or not the behaviour many have seen is expected on the XOC Bios, basically, if it is working as intended, but at this point eating a 270 dollar restocking fee to return the card seems untenable. My card is average, and I am happy with *it*. Not happy with how EVGA has handled this XOC bios though, from a communication standpoint to its customers. Will still be monitoring this thread for the final word from EVGA, one way or another.

In my world "we are working on it" with no time plan, no updates and no further information is too vague. Hey they could come back in 2023 for all that means and not even bring a valid solution as there is no further info backing up the statement on where "we are working on it" will lead.

No offense now guys but it feels a bit being left in the dark.

EVGA will find themselves in legal hot water soon if either scenario is true because publicizing false information about your product is very illegal.

Let us know when you get the paperwork started for that class action lawsuit.

I don't know if my post's sarcasm didn't carry over well, or if you're just simply reinforcing what I was already alluding to, but by suggesting that they should start up a class action lawsuit over this, I was trying to let them down softly, rather than hit them with, "Yeah, okay, buddy."

You seem to have better numbers than every reviewer out there. I await your review proving the 3090 outperforms 3080 by 15-18% clock for clock in most games.

lol

do you really think the 3090 isnt more powerful and that the only difference is memory? NO
The performance increase is very real
you just need the correct power draw to support it

Is that mod only needed on the base ftw3 3090 or even the ultra?

Nice results, did you have to use a shunt mod?

:( Can't get over 14000 on port royal, think i lost in the silicon lottery.

On a side edit, anyone else getting black screen when gaming with this 500w version?

Highest I was able to get on the 3090 FTW3 Ultra (pre-XOC Bios) with Port Royal is: 14553

Highest I was able to get on the 3080 FTW3 Ultra (post-XOC Bios) with Port Royal is: 12373

That's a 17.6% increase in performance between Port Royal scores, which I assume would be closer to 16% if I had performed the 3080 benchmark with the original Bios. Post XOC Bios highest I was able to get is 14362 on the 3090 FTW3 Ultra...

I want to note that RTX games are savage on these cards. With Horizon I had to take my OC down from +165 to +105 to get it to run without failures while non RTX games seem to work fine at +165. Of course, the Bios switch confuses things more, because now I'm not sure if the changes have made me downclock more as well. I seemed to run fine at +150 before the XOC Bios on Horizon, but after the update I had to lower it significantly more to stay stable...

I got it.  However, I thought I would reinforce the ridiculousness of it all, perhaps on better understood terms.

Neither Horizon Zero Dawn nor Forza Horizon 4 use ray tracing, Horizon Zero Dawn is just a beat down, even sans ray tracing. Stable overclock greatly varies from title to title depending upon what portion of the GPU architecture is being hit the hardest. You can actually play around w/ this by letting the GPU boost run and seeing where your clocks settle, at least on my card the clock speed in game can vary from 2050 (CODMW RT On) to 1975 (HZD) down to 1900 (RDR2). It's a really confusing architecture from a GPU boost and clock stability standpoint.

I did not know that about Horizon. I assumed the reason it gave me so many issues is because of RTX, because the light and shading look so convincing. I'm not sure then why something like Destiny 2 can run full graphics at 4k and +165 without any issues for days whereas Horizon at full 4k and +165 crashes frequently.

I haven't played Horizon on PC, could you be encountering a CPU bottleneck?

Doubtful. I'm running a 10900k.

The number of drops from game over time scales with the GPU overclock as well.

This is hilarious...Just because you get a 15% higher score in Port Royal doesn't mean you will get 15% higher performance in every game over the 3080. With that logic, all reviewers would just have to show 3DMark benchmarks. Again, go read the GamersNexus reviews of the 3080/3090.

So what's the general consensus on the bios, can we hit 500w with it or is it currently busted?
