tatm mrk. RIVE Nope he flat out said this card isn't for those people and they would be better off getting a classified... for the reason I said. You don't have to buy into ASIC levels... You could still freeze the classy, it just doesn't have 3 bios, samsung mems, and mem heater for CB. as far as my asic question. I know it doesn't matter I am just curious. for reference.
Nice, I completely missed the post with that. I bought the 780ti Classy under the wrong assumption... I love benching and just haven't had the only and time to devote to subzero just yet, but I have everything, except the DICE/LN2. Just need those and some time.
it wasn't on evga. It was on OCN and on hwbot the 780ti could be a different story since you weren't paying an extra 350$ for a bin you can get on a card that will suit you just as well. at most for nonextreme coolers, the low asic 980TI KPE card would be more than fine, but again... you could get a high asic card on the classy. really its just the Kingpin features aren't worth a damn to air or water coolers, outside of the copper heatsink... 780ti sucked though, no mem heaters so it was a pain to insulate. Couldn't get away with just dry eraser... had to void the warranty... QQ damn cold bugs, i couldn't get stable lower than -25c I got a gtx 580 matrix to practice with before I freeze the 980ti though. I got 70L on ln2 and I can get a 160L filled within the next 2 weeks What I am really waiting on is SK.. I hope I can snag something thatll scale so I can bypass the CB I read itll do -190c with high vccin I think it was

nathanb316 If you have a custom loop should you go with the lower asic card?
I have custom loop with dual 980tis. One card is 71% ASIC and has a max stable of ~1560mhz @ 1.255 volts, the other has 66.5% and maxes out at only 1502 with 1.288 volts and is hotter while playing/benching in 4k (upwards of 60C, whereas other one maxes at ~52C). My experience was the same for my 780tis, 780s, and 680s. Higher ASIC is always better and always has allowed at least a slight boost to max overclock, and even more importantly, at a lower voltage and temp.

higher asic is not ALWAYS better. i have three titan xs right now, one 70%, one 66.2% one 62.7%, on stock bios the 70% card does 1443 max core clock, on stock bios the 66.2% does 1483 max core clock, on stock bios the 66.2% does 1466 max core clock all at the same voltage and temperatures. ASIC doesnt mean jack for ambient temperature overclocking.

Both of my lower Asic cards run cooler than my higher Asic, and all are on custom loops. 780ti at 60% runs 3c cooler and one bin lower than all of the 70%+ Asic cards.
The 74% Asic 980 runs 2c hotter than the other 980's, and one bin higher.

1) I always use a modded bios to get higher voltages since I have a large custom loop. 2) Over the last 4 series of (evga) cards I have used in my main system, ALL of them have behaved better with higher ASICs. The precise percentage numbers of the ASIC that we are comparing obviously differs greatly, since the last time I had a near 80% GTX card was the regular 780s. 3) The only time that I have personally seen a higher ASIC card perform worse was one of my 6 R9 290s. 4) I'm sharing my personal experience with a custom loop and the 680, 780, 780ti, and 980ti series, so don't sit there and tell me I'm wrong when I've clearly done the testing myself. If your experience has been different, fine, but mine has been the opposite. If you really want to start with screenshots, we can, but this is common sense and shouldn't require so much work./..

Perhaps I should remove the *always* part of my original reply. The case has been 'always' for my limited sample, not for the world obviously. So here: Higher ASIC, in my limited experience with GTX cards, has always translated to higher max overclocks, lower voltages, and lower temperatures to varying degrees. In my experience with AMD cards, I had a few +80% ASIC R9 290s that did, in fact, perform slightly behind its lower ASIC brethren.

Calm you nerves, as no one quoted you or tried to attack you. Post what you want, as there have been people with 75% asic that can't overclock their card at all, not even 10mhz.. Take the attitude that someone is attacking you, and move along with it. Everyone's experience differs, and just because yours is what you experience means Nothing to everyone else. Tell your story and we will be happy with it, even though our story is different.

Saying "higher asic is always better" is the most blanket statement ever especially if you have only tested a few cards. ive had a good 20 something gpus in the past year and having higher asic has never related to higher overclocking on them. sure they generally have higher stock clocks out of the box with higher asic but in terms of overclocking it doesnt mean anything. Again, too much emphasis on asic, not enough emphasis on fine tuning the gpus and silicon lottery.

I just like having an ASIC quality over 70%. I don't overclock but I know that the lower ASIC cards I've had will run a degree or two hotter because of needing more voltage due to the leak.

I have a 780ti Classified at 60% right now. I will be fitting the air coolers to the other three, and I think I will give the 60% one a test on the bench. I also completely covered the bench with petroleum jelly, so it shouldn't be able to get bothered by condensation while benching.
