The BIOS of the card which I've bought just recently is 70.10.20.00.82 as displayed by EVGA Precision. However, when flashed with the Fanspeed Unlocker v1.1, the BIOS would then be 70.10.20.00.81 which I assume is modified based on an earlier BIOS version.
 
So, I am wondering whether BIOS 70.10.20.00.81 has everything that is implemented in BIOS 70.10.20.00.82 or not?
 
By the way, thanks for the continuation of doing the little things to make improvements available.

I want to flash back to the original factory bios of my gtx580 with this bios but it doesn't work,  that means doesn't allow any flash back....After double clicking on update.exe, the DOS window suddenly closes...
 
Is it normal ?

I found out for myself a few answers to my questions.
 
1. Yes the Flash BIOS did work at current version as stated in my previous post.
2. It doesn't 'auto overclock' just the ability to do so just more stable. We have to overclock the card ourselves still small increments at a time to figure it out. Each video card has different overclock limits just have to figure out how well your particular card does individually.
 
What I don't know is if this BIOS Flash disabled the power monitoring system that dynamically adjust performance in certain stress applications feature on the GTX 580?
 
Also I don't think anyone really monitors these threads. LOL.

No it does not disable the OCP Throttling. This is software/driver managed and since it's limited to synthetic unrealistic stress testing why would they disable it? Disabling the OCP Throttling would only lead to increased RMAs costs which isn't the point of the Fanspeed Unlocker.
 
Yes, these forums are monitored, definitely. That isn't to imply that product managers always have time to reply.

We've got more power with less power consumption and all cores active. Couldn't be happier with EVGA's card and hope prices go down a bit with some competition and looking forward to SLI the GTX 580 by summer. Not that I need to since it's already just a great card but because I can.

Can someone explain what exactly this does?  I'm not really sure as to whether I would need it or not, or even benefit from it.
 
"New in v1.1 - Improved Compatibility".. ok, what is improved? compatibility with what?  Are their any other improvements?  Is this just for fan speeds, or is there more to it?  I'm just a little unclear as to what the overall purpose is, or if it's a necessity.

precision works fine
my 580's are "new" stock as well (with the high flows) but were not flashed from the factory

Sure, it will increase idle temps a bit if your idle is down in the 30's.  But so what?  It isn't designed to increase idle temps, it is designed to decrease idle fan speed (among other things).  The fan profile is basically the same, so it doesn't really increase temperatures anywhere other than idle.  It just so happens that by letting the fan drop lower at low temperature that the video card may idle a little hotter than it would have if the fan were locked at 40%.  But so what?  Do you think 35c is too hot?  Load temps are what matters, not idle temps.

Got a vanilla GTX 580, installed BIOS flash...reads .81....but afterburner is locked at 40-85 still, any reasons why?  I have 2.1 Beta 7 installed.

Need help Jacob. can you Plz post the Old bios. The new one is giving problems for Nvidia surround. I wona go back to version 1.0. Every time i restart i have to reconfigur surround. Only one 1 montor comes on. Thansk

Hi my friend just tried doing the BIOS 1.1 on his 580 SC. He said it opened a DOS window, did some stuff and then closed. It is just sitting there now, the screen never went blank like it said it would. Nothing appears to be happening, should he restart his computer? Or is it still doing something?

Did you hit Y when the DOS wondow opened? and it makes a sound when you did. After that restart the pc and reinstal nvidia drivers.

Did you use the 1.1 for the Superclocked edition?

In the 224th post Jacob posted the original bios for the sc/bo editions. Can we have the original bios for the vanilla too please?
 
Also, if ever for any reason a card has to be sent for RMA, does it have to be with the original bios or is it perfectly fine to be returned with the fan unlocker bios in it without losing the warranty?

Hi,
I have 1 EVGA 580 SC flashed with the version 1.0 of the fan unlocker and works fine. Next week a secon 580 SC is coming so I would like to ask how do I flash only that card without reflashing the one I already have after setting up the SLI?.

Is it ok if I just reflash the one I have after setting up the SLI?. I mean, is there any risk is flashing the same card twice with the fan unlocker BIOS?

If I recall correctly with sli I had to answer Y when flashing each card in sli. You of course would need to know the card you would want to flash. Doing the one card is probably a safer option. I would put the one card in the primary slot. Not sure if it matters. If you only had one card in your system, that slot. Not the expert so perhaps others will chime in.

Someone mind posting the old bios for the regular 580 (1580)? Only saw the 1582 and 1583 original bios. I miss my old temps. I'm idling at 40-50c and have to keep messing with my DVI cables to get my dual monitor set up functioning properly :/
