I like the box designs!  Very streamlined & clean looking AND I like the RAM specs also :)

[Must apologize for my very first post on these forums without a proper introduction or some sorts]

Pretty silly.
You have a friggin' box art...........mock up........
but no product to show, talk about, review or even show a picture...........and there's over 5 pages of nothing said about a fake box.

This is pretty funny stuff.

I wouldn't be too quick to dump your 5870s.
I don't think this card is that special.........at least from early reviews.........we'll know in 10 days for sure.

Unless this is the second coming of the 8800 GTX I'm just going to keep what I have.

Re:EVGA GTX 480/470 Boxes! 2010/03/19 09:58:59 (permalink)
Nice, now we just need a price!

EDIT: A little disappointed. We need some non-biased benches. If there is only a 10-20% performance gain in the 480 over the 5870 why would you pay $100 more for the card. If anything, the price should be $50 more than a 5870. Still though, even with nVidia's biased benches they are only giving a performance advantage of 25% tops. Kind of scary if you ask me. Plus the TDP is insane. It is about 150% of what the 5870 and barely less than the 5970.

I can see ATI cutting the cost of the 5970 and the 5870 by about $50 each just to rub nVidia the wrong way. Ouch!

To date I've seen some very ridiculous boxes... actually all of them with one exception.

The EVGA boxes are by far the best.

They couldnt really have gone wrong with that design though, a blue/orange Nvidia swoosh on a pretty much black background with some specs, very brave...

EVGA could put out a turd with EVGA on it and some people would say its the best looking turd they have ever seen, especially if Jacob or Agent Tiny squeezed it out.

(no offence to you 2 guys, i just added that for comedic effect really got nothing against you guys but hey you should be flattered that some people consider you gods, i just think you look like 2 cool guys)

I am one of those that you speak of that worships at the altar of EVGA. If EVGA's 480 keeps with the predominantly black with a blue accent that the box seems to be hinting at I will be in love at first sight. Although, it might be hard to pull me away from EVGA even with a crappy color. But in my experience, EVGA's marketing department always comes through with a pretty good color scheme. The ONLY one I ever disliked was the orange of the original GT200 parts. Kinda ugly IMO. I had a couple 280s that weren't the prettiest cards on the block. But the original EVGA 260's had to be the ugliest cards I have ever seen. I'm actually rocking one of them right now as a stopgap between my 3 285's and my 2 upcoming 480's, but I bought it from one of the EVGA forum members here and they had enough sense to pull that ugly orange sticker off before I bought it. It looks great in all black. Please EVGA, keep it simple, no orange firework-type graphics on the new cards. I would love it if they went back to the look of the 8800 GTX look. Black PCB, black cooler, with just EVGA on it. That looked slick. Minimalist black with just the EVGA logo is the way to go. It just looks so classy.

dont get me wrong i like the design, i am not gonna say its the best design ever or that the other box's look like crud though.  Its a pretty simple design (basically all they have done is taken the Nvidia swoosh and put it on a black background, the text is irrelevant), how could you go wrong?  Maybe we should commend EVGA for keeping it simple where others go over the top.

I am sure if it was EVGA's name on the XFX box and vis versa some people would be saying "look how bland XFX's box is compared to EVGA's".

curious, does the fact that these boxes have no mention of step-up imply that (at least immediately) they will not be eligible for the step up program and not carry a lifetime warranty?

The hell would you step-up to?

yup the Step Up "promise" on the box means that card inside the box can be stepped up FROM.  It means if you buy that card its eligible for the Step Up program which means if there are any cards that it can step up (which the GTX 470/480 may or may not be on the list of acrds that you can step up to but this is not dictated by the box having step-up on it or not) to then you will be allowed to.

No mention of step up on the box may suggest that these cards dont have a lifetime warranty or that they wont be eligible for the Step Up program but it doesnt mean that if you have a previous card that is eligible for the step up program that you wont be able to step up to a GTX 470.480.

It may just mean its not on the front of the box or it has not been added yet or they will add it as a sticker.

yeah sorry, i was not questioning that, i just didnt look close enough at the specs of BlindArchangel cards, i thought they were 1GB models and that you would lose a GB on your 2GB cardif you combined with them.

What i suggsted stupidly enough was that you got 2 more 2GB versions but BlindArchangel are 2GB so thats what you were doing, thats why i changed it to nevermind your on the ball which means your clued up and doing the right thing.

tri SLI on the Nvidia 200 series is pretty awesome, just avoid Quad SLI in the future (what i mean by that is never be tempted to buy 2 Dual GPU cards), stick with TRI.

Maybe we should commend EVGA for keeping it simple where others go over the top.

Hell yes! That's exactly what I'm talking 'bout. Black and simple is always the best, especially with computer parts. In a sea of gaudy BS looking cards, EVGA is head and shoulders above the rest, in not only quality of design, but quality of customer service.

Very awesome looking cards!

It figures though. I just upgraded my PC yesterday from an old EVGA Duo-2 mobo with an EVGA 8800GTS 640. The old hardware had seen better days, and although it works, it's not quite as fast as it was 4 years ago. :)

This always seems to be the way things go for me. When this new card is on the obsolete list, it'll be time for me to upgrade. LOL

well i dont bench and only play FSX and MW2 both @ 3840 x 1024 so a Sli rig should help slightly in FSX and smash MW2 hard

yeah sorry, i was not questioning that, i just didnt look close enough at the specs of BlindArchangel cards, i thought they were 1GB models and that you would lose a GB on your 2GB cardif you combined with them.

Thats what i thought you ment
