Hello,

So i got the GTX1070 FTW a month ago and i noticed some coil whine when playing the new doom. Vsync was disabled and i got like 150 FPS and the coil whine was noticeable. Then i tried Civilization 5 and Anno 1404 which doesnt require a lot of power. When Vsync was  enabled there was literally 0 Coil whine...( i was in a quiet room)... On the other hand when Vsync is enabled and i play Doom or Tomb Raider the Coil Whine is still noticable... ( the GPU load under these games was much higher than CIV and Anno)

I already RMAed the Card and got another one with the same issue... EVGA told me to activate Vsync but the refresh rate is the only source of Coil whine here... whenever the card gets under load ( new games) the Coil Whine is present even at 60fps.

I tried to burn method using the heaven Benchmark but it didnt do anything...the card is still whistling like hell....

EVGA should test the cards before send them or propose another solution because activating Vsync is definitely not the solution....

So i am still hesitating if i should try a second RMA or not...

Config:
  • Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
  • Intel i5 6600k ( not overclocked)
  • GTX 1070 FTW
  • 2x8 ddr4 3200 Ram ( but they run at 2133 for now)
  • 1 SSD
  • 1HDD
  • 1 Wlan Module
  • 550 watt Seasonic G Serie Modular 80+ Gold

Just look for "coil whine gtx 1070 ftw" in youtube and you ll be served

Stay away from non-reference cards, these seem to more often have coil whine issues. One of my 770 SCs had nasty coil whine and its the only GPU I ever experienced coil whine from. ACX coolers are now on my blacklist.

Thanks for your reply... i dont think its a PSU thing... i barely reach the 400W on my setup... other users complaining from coil whine have bigger and Better PSUs than mine and the whistle is still there.... I think it is a design flaw... what bothers me is that EVGA sends replacement without testing the unit first... i mean i need to apply for an Advanced RMA in order to check it myself because with a Standard RMA there is a risk of getting a worst  graphic card.

In my case i did 1 Advanced RMA and i got a worst card and i sent it back...now i am waiting for the refund to try another advanced RMA.......

PSU quality can make a difference. Wouldn't hurt to try it.

Convinced psu can lead to coil whine issues some times. I experienced exactly that for the first time. My stock psu would cause that. EVGA psu its completely gone and silent.
