here is a thread of all of the ftw asic scores.  your boost clock is set by the asic but it does not effect overclock per say.

FTW+ became available last night for step up at eu.evga.com. But 399 EUR ...😒 vs 345 for SSC+

SSC seems a much better choice, imo.
nothing can justify the FTW+ being 50€ more expensive than the SSC.
they charge you the backplate with 20€ and 1€ for each MHz higher GPU clock.
that's a real nonsense.

Yeah, I called up the EVGA sales department and asked what the difference is between the SSC and FTW+. At first the rep mentioned that the FTW+ had a whole new PCB with a entirely new layout... Then I mentioned... No, the new SSC that has the same upgrades and added 6 phase power. He basically told me performance wise, both will be about the same. I really don't see how a backplate and a very small increase in speed makes up for $40 difference on the US side. Especially if they put out backplates to add to the SSC for $20, which seems to be the going rate... After you add a backplate to a SSC card, you are looking at a $20 difference in price for 26MHz higher on the base clock and a FTW+ in blue letters for the price difference. I'm not seeing the value at this point, but those new backplates might cost more than I expect.

Uhhhh… Except I ordered one a few hours ago, it's on NewEgg and EVGA.com? :X #confused

There is more to the world then just America. :/ I personally got sick of waiting and just ordered the Gigabyte G1. Good luck to those still waiting. :)

why do they increase the price on their own website by such a big margin? thats about 30% higher than newegg price.

Actually the evga price isnt that bad, is due to really weak euro now.

But I had to convert my price paid to euros as is no UK GBP stepup page.  So it would depend on evga agreeing with exchange rate.

...

and now imagine how do we feel at EVGA EU, where FTW+ costs 54€ (that's ~62-63$) more than the SSC.

EVGA really messed this round up, imo.

I can't speak for EVGA nor for other forum members but if you are an overclocker I would think the FTW+ would be a better choice.

I am still debating that very issue as well, my FTW with backplate performing very well for me so far...

I would say it's not worth paying extra money again after having already bought the FTW.

I will check ASIC on my card and if its good (which I don't know exactly what that means :) ) I don't think I will step up for the + edition

If you don't have any problems I don't think it's worth the hassle and the money.
On the other hand if you (or anyone else) has problems, the step up makes a lot of sense since it increases dramatically the change of getting a properly working card.

Tried some overclocking, and this was the best I could coax out of the new SSC.

for me the stepup would actually be cheap, but I dont know how it works, do I have to send my old card back first and am weeks without a card?

Also what is the shipped turbo clocks with the card vs the normal FTW?:

Finally anyone in UK how do evga do the exchange rate since the price has to be in euros for price you brought older card for.

I paid £320 for my FTW and the step up said 408 euros so I only have to pay postage.

Yeah you send the old card back and they send the new one.

No luck with my 970 SSC
Coil whine and my fans makes some weird noises.
Temperature and performance is ok (ASIC 67%, boost 1391 MHz)
I will definitely send it back but don’t know if I should give EVGA another chance or switch to another brand.

I've checked the ASIC for my FTW edition and the value is 67% (I don't know if it is good or bad). I have activated the kboost option in evga precision x and the GPU frequency rise at 1395 MHZ and was stable but when I have benchmark with furmark, my TDP was around 101% and GPU temp was at 70° with cooler set up at 50% RPM. I have no experienced any coil wine sound... Maybe some benchmarks will help us to compare the cards

So I just received by stepup ssc+ today.  it runs cooler and quieter than the old sc I had.

I have reached a non crashing boost clock of 1550 without any extra voltage in heaven and valley.  I had to turn it down to 1530 so that I had absolutely no glitches in the benchmark.  the memory is at 7950 right now and I have pushed it right up to 8000 but once again I started getting some texture pop ins and such so I lowered it

I am running at 1530/7950 at stock voltage and 110% power limit.

asic is 67.

Looks like we have a winner, even with a "low" asic score.  Post some bench numbers dang it.

i am a bit disappointed in the voltage limit on the new ssc
mine will only take an extra 25mv, the slider goes up 87 but the card stops at 25
i have gotten 1525 out of it, and it doesnt even break a sweat, i think it could easily get 1600+ with more voltage
its got a 67% asic btw

well tried to push it a little further today,  I can reach 1565MHZ and make it to the last section of heaven benchmark but then it freezes.  I may try lowering the memory overclock and see if that helps.

also I found in some cases my boost clock would drop by 12 so I upped the voltage to +20.  It needed it.  temps are always below 70C with an aggressive fan curve

here is a all max settings @1080p ran at full screen heaven benchmark.  very typical score of 1600 with this overclock.

That's about where I'm at.  At 1540 I start to see artifacts on my core clock, so I dropped it back to 1530.  Memory is sitting at 8120 (2030 according to GPU-Z).  At 8140 I started to see artifacts in OC Scanner memory burn, so I dropped it back a bit.

Don't have firestrike ultra, but at regular settings, I get:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5701591

ASIC is 66.6%

The 25mv cap you referenced. You said you moved it up but the actual voltage didn't rise. Are you reading the mv increase from gpuz, precision or on the card through a multimeter.

Hint: precision is never correct, and gpuz is only close but still incorrect.

i dont have a multimeter to test, but the reading is from precision, ill check gpu-z tonight
both gpu-z and precision are saying the boost limiter is the voltage cap so thats what im basing it off of

edit: just checked, gpu-z says the same
