Will the now discontinued Lian-Li PC-A7010B case fit the SR-2? (If not, any other dual-CPU Xeon boards that are standard EATX size and allow overclocking?)

The A7010B is a pretty awesome case, built in internal sideways SATA-backplane (so the hard drives say cool as air can blow over them), and I can use a 2TB backup HD like a giant USB stick.

Interior is too small.

I am planning to build a workstation, but definitely don't want to go for any SLI or XFIRE solution. want to use just one quadro 4000, which is a simple-slot solution.
given that  I won't use the maximum PCI-E slots, can I put the sr-2 into any smaller liquid-cooling friendly case without any modification?
thanks.

Is this case too short or too shallow? It's late, and I'm having a hard time figuring out which it is.

Does the Thermaltake Armor Plus VH6000BWS work for the Motherboard.
 http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16811133056
Or the Thermaltake Level 10GT
http://www.thermaltakeusa...spx?C=1416&ID=2039

Both have a  description showing as being able to hold an extended ATX just like Lian-Li PC-P80
And as a secondary question.  When forum admin said that the PC-P80 works with some tweaking... what tweaking exactly?

Well,i was waiting for the Xigmatek Elysium super tower but it seems it's taking it's sweet time to hit retail, and i've been waiting for the past 7 weeks for it so i've been checking out Lian Li's V2120X as an alternate, wich is a cool looking all black version(interior and exterior) and after seeing some reviews,it's possible to not only fit the SR-2 in it, but also a water cooling system using a triple 120mm radiator internally....

It's an increadibly tight fit between the very top of the motherboard and the radiator, specifically around the DDR 3 Dimm area if all of slots are used(just a few milimeters of room left), but it does fit.....Keep in mind though that i'm not talking about those double wide radiators, but the models like swiftech makes(MCR series).

Is it possible to fit the SR-2 in a HAF X case since it has 10 slots? And I know the SR-2 supports Dual Xeon processors but can you also use the normal i7 Series CPUs (920, 950, 980 etc) as dual or does it have to strictly be Xeon?

The SR-2 only supports XEON processors with dual QPI's. You will have to mod the HAF X to fit the SR-2, but you probably already knew that.

Hi to all!
Is there any sense in buying case like Chieftec CA-01B-B-SL or Chieftec BA-02B-B-B. Is there enough space inside? This will be a temporary case. Currently there are no opportunities to buy case LianLi PC-V2120 at the moment. A mobo SR-2 is already bought, it will soon come to me.

Not unless you intent on modifying the case heavily. Otherwise, there wouldn't be enough space for the sr-2. You can also opt for a Mountain mods HPTX mobo tray while waiting for your sr-2.

I'm sure that the Thermaltake SwordM is good enough for SR-2. But that's antique case.

Lian-Li has quite the showing at CeBIT 2011; including the update to the PC-P80:

PC-P80N

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=572&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=138&g=f

Link is good, but missing from the "Chassis for HPTX" category.
- HPTX
- Dual 140mm Top exhaust (previously one)
- PS now on the bottom (really wish mine had that )
- 11 (!) PCI slots with tool-less locks.
- Cable Clamp for better management
- Motherboard Tray cable grommets
